No Man's Sky |OT| Hello Worlds.

I like how different experiences can be. A friend of mine is hours into the game and still on his second planet mining gold and generally just chilling. Yet he has more exosuit stuff than me, almost caught up with me in languages (as he loves hunting down monoliths) and even got an Atlas Pass V1 AND... most importantly... HE FOUND A PORTAL! Of course we don't how to unlock it (I don't think anibody does) and we both agreed "That's... that's awesome actually." I really hope the game can and will give me those "what is this and what do I do with it" moments of proper mistery.

I don't know... I didn't choose anything at any moment, I just accepted Atlas guidance at the start of the game, does that counts?

Edit: Only one time I read about
NADA
in one monolith or scientist, can't remember but it was just a text.
Yeah that is choosing the Atlas path. If you've never been to one, you should have a "path toward waypoint" (you can switch between paths with L1 and R1) on your galactic map, which will lead you to an Atlas interface, is that there?

I think I found out why my game crashed every few minutes.
The reason are my inventory slots in my exo suit. As soon as my 48 slots there are full
the chance of crashing increased dramatically.
As soon as I remove 1 item I do not have crashes anymore. Atleast not that much than before. Maybe 1 or 2 in 6 - 10 hours.

I have a couple of questions about Atlas Path:
1. Anomaly - I know it's RNG. I have collected 5 Atlas Stones so far (so basically I'm in my 5th warp and 5th system. But, several times when I opened the galactic map, an icon "Anomaly detected" popped up. I couldn't figure out if it was somewhere on that map, but when I close the map and scan with L3, nothing shows up.
What am I doing wrong?

2. When I arrive at Atlas station, and talk to the pyramid, it says "Accept (xy rank)". Does this mean that I will eventually have to rank up or get locked out of progressing. I am currently Galileo, but have done all the milestones through regular play. I'd really hate to be forced to stay on extreme planets or to fight pirates.

Max rank is super low, I don't think it would be possible to not meet that check so I wouldn't worry about it. Have you got your Atlas Pass V1? That shouldn't be RNG I think, you're supposed to get it in the system right after your first Atlas Interface.

If you got that message you should have a "path toward waypoint" (L1 and R1 to switch between paths on the galactic map), pointing you toward an Atlas Interface.

I've set waypoints to go to previous systems just because I wanted to do 100% discoveries and those are fixed on L1 and R1 in the galactic map but other than that I have the Atlas pre-defined path and free roam. I'm going exclusively through the Atlas guided path, five systmes in and no Atlas Station or Anomalies. Maybe I'll start going rogue and make my own path through free roam. :p

I really think that eventually things will show up to me.

Edit: Can't play until later today so I can't check on stuff but I'll explore the map one I get my hands on the game again.

Looks like No Man's Sky is the new Star Wars Battlefront for GAF. Expect to see a lot of hate threads for half a year.
Its pretty ridiculous and its times like this that I'm a bit embarrassed of GAF (even though GAF is still the most sane compared to other gaming sites). I remember when Destiny had a similar reception. Like, theres legit criticism for games like NMS, Destiny, and Battlefront, but a lot of comments are toxic and hateful. You can be critical of something without sounding like a 2 year old throwing a tantrum.

I get pointed towards Atlas Interface, I know that. I go there, and get another Stone. But I have read that I need an Anomaly to get my Atlas Pass V1, and I cannot find it anywhere.
As I said, it flashed a few times "Anomaly detected" but if I scan with L3 I cannot find it, and I have no idea how or if I shoukd look for it on a map.

Thanks for #1 answer, now I know I can just keep warping and collecting Atlas stones, I'm getting a bit tired of trekking across planets. I have plenty material to continue, I just need about 400 emeril to be fully stocked.

Uhhh. But the Atlas path is leading you to an Atlas station. It's the end of that path on the map, it should be a system called "Atlas Interface." I'm confused. Maybe you mean the path toward core, which is different?

Get to your first atlas interface, check it out, then jump once toward the center along the core path, and you should find
Nada and Polo
waiting for you.

I really think that eventually things will show up to me.
I'm sure they will, but I'm also now super curious about what happened :p
Haha.

By the way you chose Atlas, right? When should I receive the first interference? Or is that RNG?
I did on PC. I feel like it put a waypoint on my galactic map for an atlas interface almost right away. I think it was right after getting pointed to the
Monolith, right around when I got the antimatter recipe
. You don't have that path toward waypoint as one of the options on your galactic map?

I bought a 30 slot ship for just under 6M this morning. Just found a 31 slot, which I wouldn't normally take such a small upgrade, but the slots had a better setup and it already had a warp upgrade so I went ahead and repaired it and made it my own.

Looks a whole lot nicer too.

Currently at 34 exosuit, 31 ship, 16 multitool slots.

Wait, you can get an Atlas Pass V1 in your first system? GODDAMNIT.

I'm still four jumps away from the first anomoly and I still haven't gotten the damn thing.

Oh sorry yeah I meant the first option on the map it's the path toward core, I asumed it was called Atlas Path. :p

I'll check it out tonight and report again but so far I've seen no Atlas anything other than generic text lore (and stones from one vendor).

Well darn, I wish I'd paid closer attention, it seemed very straightforward to me at the time- does anyone remember exactly when the Atlas path puts the waypoint for your first interface on your map?

Aaah, maybe this is the answer to my problem of not finding the Anomaly?
I need to step off the Atlas Path? And follow the yellow line?

BTW, are all these crashes from the PC or PS4 version? I've experienced 1 crash in the 30+ hours I've put into the PS4 version.

I've seen people posting about crashes on both. I think the Easy Allies review said they crashed 6 times in 30 hours of playtime on the PS4.

I've been playing PC and I've only had it crash once after around 30 hours (though I've had to restart a couple times after extended play sessions when performance suddenly tanked).

Just had a strange glitch. I'm getting both a severe cold storm and heat storm at same time. Both symbols are on my screen and temps keep flipping from -46C to 108C every second. Funny thing is the planet is labeled temperate and I had no issues walking around for awhile.

Be glad when the many bugs are fixed.

A few screenshots from before. I was going to post them in the screenshot thread but then I found an incredible snow planet and wanted to share that instead. Before that I was excited about Space Bars and Butterflies.

That planet had lots of crazy wildlife. Almost everything except the Butterflies wanted to kill me though.

pretty sure you can't (the storyline basically forces you to warp to another system to get to where you get one). otoh, you might possibly be able to get a v2/v3 that early?...

I don't know, I don't think I've missed anything obvious really, I had two fixed options on the map: Path towards Core (which is the one I'm following) and free roam. Then it opened up with two more options with waypoints I set up to going to previous systems but now that you mentioned... the first waypoint appeared on the map because I created it but then I fixed a second waypoint between the same systems but in reverse (yeah, I did waypoint from A to B and then from B to A just because) and when I checked it again a while later, a fourth option appeared on the galactic map and I asumed it was my second waypoint... maybe it's what you're telling me about the Atlas Interface!

I have to check it out.

First you visit the Atlas station. Then you'll randomly get an anomaly reading and wierd space station in your system or a near by one. It's there you'll get it

No waypoint yet, but I've done 2 jumps. Also, I'd be frank and say that I am not good with the galactic map lol.

The controls make me feel like an idiot.

I have the worst luck with good planet's
The majority of mine have had little to no plants and generally no wildlife either. Not to mention extreme weather events on almost every one.

Think I've jumped 6 or 7 times now.

New system I'm on has a nice high price on plutonium. Raking in a cool 600k each trip and that's with my starter ship. Bought a new one before bed last night. Think I'll be farming for a while. Sentinels are driving me nuts. Bit of a gong show with them constantly on my ass.

Keep expecting to get bored with the game but here I was, expecting to play for an hour last night and ended up being 3.

Can't wait to get a weekend I'm not busy where I can really out some solid time in.

Yes, it's frustrating seeing people assert baldly that stuff isn't in the game, especially when you've seen that stuff. Fully half of the complaints about stuff not being in there have just been completely wrong. I'm only sixteen hours in because of a gimped wrist, but I've seen big crashed ships, flying snakes, palm trees, predation, animal habits, water worlds, etc. I haven't seen a single desert world, but I'm not going to assume they don't exist because of that. I'd never seen a water world until I stumbled on one last night.

Not to toot my own thread, but the Photo Thread has a lot of fantastic screenshots that fly in the face of a lot of the "It's not in the game, Sean is the next Molyneux!!" claims.

There have definitely been things tweaked or removed, but a lot of the stuff that they claimed was in the game is in there. I haven't come across any massive downed ships, but I've seen a lot of the stuff that was shown in the trailers and various gameplay demos. The game is good. It still needs patches and fixes, but it's a good time.

My wife is insanely picky when it comes to games she likes (if it ain't Elder Scrolls, Dragon Age, Fallout, or Mass Effect, she ain't interested), but she's hooked on this game. I just think it has one of those gameplay loops that's easy to get sucked into, even with the rough edges and jank. The future looks bright for the game as far as continued support, and that has me even more excited, because I'm pretty satisfied with the current package as is (minus a few gripes here and there, of course!).

Pointless. If people want to get so badly burned on a game because they can't control their own hype, that is their problem.

I feel like a good amount of it is people who didn't buy the game shitting on it solely because of pre-release hype. It's always some "I told you so" waiting to shit on a good game because its not perfect

So I'm at the beginning of the game and my instruction is to communicate with alien life form. I reach the icon to find some sort of ship (building?) with rotating satellites near it. There's nothing to interact with - half of it is buried in a mountain! Any ideas?

Nada and Polo in their Space Anomaly, yes

For me, after my first atlas interface, one jump toward the center along the core path and there they were.

2 jumps is very very early, it might just be coming up I guess. Wish I remembered exactly when it was put on my map.

Controls take some getting used to- R1 and L1 switch between your path options. Right stick is a "move along path" if you hold it toward the next system on that path, except in free roam wherein you can move in any direction. Left stick just rotates around your currently selected system, so you can view the path better.

I can't imagine the kind of high bar expectations some people must have had for this game to be getting so much hate. I'm not sure why anyone would expect this super small team of indie developers to have a game bigger and more complex than the biggest AAA games.

Personally I was one of the "but what do you even do in this game" people originally and so far I've found that there's a bit more to do than I expected.

I'm really enjoying it - it's lovely to just relax and explore these beautiful planets. The best thing is knowing that I can't see everything. If I think a planet looks drab or boring, I just pick up and fly away immediately and don't feel guilty about "missing" something.

That first page on Gaming, the knives are really out for this game

Anyone know where I can find an Atlas key?

cheers

Just keep following the Atlas quest line and you will eventually get one if you don't have a hyperspace drive yet then you're a bit away.

looking at alot of these hater crowds around this game seems to stem from a lack of multiplayer.. as far as we can see.

We havent had stable servers since launch to really test if it is true that you can in fact meet eachother.

Also it's funny in a way and sad to see that if an indie dev doesn't follow through 100% to what they said they end up with the internet with pitchforks and torches

Yet a "AAA" game dev doesn't go through with everything it's more like just some loud shouting.... unless there's graphics misrepresentation then people grab their pitchforks and torches again.

/sigh
Also alot of the people that are part of the internet hate crowd seems to might be from the viewers of the Livestreamers... kinda scary they can be when someone talks bad about their "hero" And if their streamer doesn't like something they become sheep following them into their dislike.

-_- but that's enough of my thoughts on the matter of the internet hate squad.

Still working on upgrading my ship's warp drives and then onto weapon systems. Shields are all online though thankfully.

So last night I found my first distress signal in space. I went over to investigate and got a message that "hostile ships were approaching". How does my ship know they're hostile? Did they radio that they're going to slice me up like a Dravonian pig? The space stuff needs a LOT more character interaction to make it feel alive and personal.

But anyway, I took them on and barely won. I briefly celebrated my victory until my HUD said that Sentinel ships were approaching, and noticed I had a two-star wanted rating. WTF? I helped kill some pirates and this is the thanks I get? Do Sentinels activate if any ships get blown up, regardless? Unfortunately my shielding was down, and because of the terrible recharge UI I couldn't get them back up before the Sentinel ships vaporized me.

I love space dogfights. Ever since X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter, and the Wing Commander series, I've loved them and I've always been good at them. But dogfighting in NMS is not fun. Somehow they've made flying in space feel like spinning in a turret instead of chasing or being chased by other ships.

Ugh, I'm definitely getting Fallout 3 or Skyrim vibes from this game. In regards to the game becoming less stable the longer I play. I'm getting many more glitches and crashes in the last 10 hours of play. Kind of worried eventually the saves will stop loading or the game gets so bad it becomes unplayable.

I like the game but I'm not starting over after playing for 25+ hours.
