There seems to be a lack of posts about Ronald :p I need to get on with my playthrough as well, lol. I've mainly been playing my recently acquired Vectrex and Atari 2600; can't complain.

How much Treasure-ness does it contain? Treasure games on the MD were technical marvels too... Is this one no/an exception?

It's a pretty clean looking MD game - it's not at the level of Gunstar or Heady. It was probably made quickly to finance Gunstar and maybe replenish the petty cash so they could eat dinner.

I havent really been able to play McDonalds Treasure Land much this month, even though i was the one who nominated it. Early in the month I opened my system to try to get rid of the jailbars, and while I hope that was successful, there is no way i can check, since i was also uncareful enough to wrist loose some of the cables that were done on it for my 50/60hz mod. My plan is to try solder it myself, but so far i havent had the time. Which sucks considering how awesome the Mega Drive is :(

I see, and yeah, it kinda looks like that. Still pretty expensive, though, at least its Japanese version. :/

Finally got myself a six button controller (with an amazingly short cord)!

Boxed, but a little dusty, so I cleaned it up:

Works great! Though I'm not sure if the tiny size is something that suits me so much, I like having it for six buttons games and just for the fun of having another type of controller!

Beat it on Normal. I thought it was a pretty fun and short experience. The presentation and music are strong and it controls fine. I found the boss mechanics to be a little odd in some cases but not a huge deal.

Some non-spoiler credit proof of finishing:

And one of my favourite songs from the game:

I gotta beat this game sometime soon. I've owned it like forever. My favorite tune in the game, btw: https://youtu.be/Svk1zZm6dvQ?list=PL78FFD81589713E06

Yup! 16 bit games had a really unique take on space music that just seemed to work. Kinda takes vibes from old sci-fi and a bit of 90s pop.

Both.

Gaiares is hard as fuck. TF3 should feel likee a breeze afterward.
You ain't kidding about the difficulty in Gaiares. I'm good until mission 5 and then it's all down hill. It ain't all bad though since mission 5 has some the best looking graphics in the game. The background graphics in that level look like they're taken straight from a Sharp X68000 Gradius game (and let's not forget about the awesome robot dragon boss at the end of the mission).

So, i'm not sure how many of you have had the chance to play "Dashin' Desperados", but i was playing this with my girlfriend last night, and its a pretty cool multi-player game.

Dashin_desperadoes_genesis.jpeg

For those that haven't, each world has 3 sections and its best 2 out of 3. This usually involves making it to the end of a stage or grabbing something from one side of the stage and returning to the other side, all in the name of a pretty girl. Sometimes you'll also have small, isolated stages where you compete to killer a set number of enemies quicker.

GENESIS--Dashin%20Desperadoes_May21%2022_23_23.png

You can collect different power-ups, and can screw with your opponent along the way, making for intense matches that may ruin friendships.

The neat part is that, in single-player, the game does adapt better, by having boss fights at the end, since you are specifically competing against the CPU in a story, as oppose to just two fools in love trying to win the affection of the girl.

Plus it has a pretty legit soundtrack.

Another one of those great Data East games on the Genesis that doesn't tend to get a lot of love

Not really sure its little known in this group, but yeah, its a good game for sure!

I guess the Japanese version is completely unplayable, if you don't speak the language, right? I've read Western Landstalker is censored, so I was hoping to enjoy the unaltered original...

Landstalker shits all over Dark Savior, tbh. I was horribly disappointed by Dark Savior at the time, I found it borderline unplayable.

Uh? It's exactly the same gameplay, with the addition of a real 3D world and a movable camera to better prepare your jumps. How can you find it borderline unplayable? The combat system is very special, but the platforming mechanics are identical. If anything, Landstalker is borderline unplayable when coming from Dark Saviour: the static camera means a lot of guessing during platforming and the diagonal controls are much stiffer.

Many people were disappointed back then as the game didn't feel like a 32bit game with its sort of fixed camera and cubic world full of sprites, and the combat system was a let down. But for someone who had played Landstalker and wanted "more of the same", it's an excellent game. Especially now as we don't expect the same from our games as when they were on a brand new console.

I don't think I ever got to post here. My deepest apologies, as a Sega fan. :)

My favorites include:
Sonic 1, 2, 3 & Knuckles
Splatterhouse 2 + 3
Aladdin
Mega Man: The Wily Wars
Scooby-Doo Mystery
The Haunting starring Polterguy
Gunstar Heroes
Zombies Ate My Neighbors
Comix Zone
Castle/World of Illusion
Mickey Mania (though I hold more nostalgia towards the SNES version, same with Zombies)

There are plenty more Genesis/MD games out there that I haven't played, but that's the beauty of systems like theses; there's always a new favorite around the corner. :)

Yeah I meant the combat. I can't remember so well as it's been like two decades, but I remember it being unresponsive and just plain awful.

I know sports games posts usually generate a yawn, but I'm hyped that I got a CIB and sealed Japanese MD version of NBA Jam for $12 via a solid eBay seller. I have been wary of eBay in the past bit I have gotten some good deals lately. Very cool. Gonna fire up the wayback machine this evening and have a few drinks tonight while dunking on fools with Bill Clinton. HE'S ON FIRE!!!

I picked a NIB copy on eBay too! Probably from the same seller. I personally love getting JP MD copies of western games. The novelty is cool.

I'd rather play Landstalker. I liked Dark Savior, but it's more like a puzzle game than an adventure/action RPG. There aren't that many fights. Just the one vs one sort-of side view fights that are easily cheesed (seriously, you don't need levels, just a little patience and the charge swing) and once in a while a handful of bats to kill.

Anyone know of a good replacement PSU to use for a Model 1? Mine works fine and everything but it's always so warm and was wondering if anything has come out since that's a bit more compact and doesn't feel hot when plugged in for a while.

I couldn't get into Dark Savior at all. The mechanics were just too different, I didn't like the limited save-system, and nothing ever clicked.

Was and still am a massive fan of Landstalker though.

Aside from this scene not being accessible in the final game - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sD8xKErGhyA
There wasn't much in the way of censoring.

Although....Don't read unless you want a rather clever joke spoiled.
There's a bordello in one of the towns. In the Western version, it was changed to a Ballet Studio. However, the writers did a great job of making the protagonists as well as the player think otherwise.

In today's "only in Japan" file, we have Mahjong Cop Ryu. If you can't tell why this game is batshit crazy from the title and art, here are a few more reasons why:

1) It's a mahjong game, something which I still cannot really understand despite me being a semi degenerate gambler and watching God of Gamblers and all the sequels.

2) It's a mahjong game wrapped in an adventure game. So if you wanted to follow endless conversation trees before you battle, this is the game for you. Kinda like a Bioware game but with gambling instead of fairies and elves and minus the awkward sex scenes.

3) Your opponents are a collection of barely skirted copyright infringements, including Robocop and (as pictured here) the wrestler Sting. No Ric Flair unfortunately.

There's no way in hell I'll ever be able to beat this game (the only Japanese I know is sake) but for $5, it's a cool oddity to add to the library.

I bought one recently from Germany on Ebay, but that's a European plug. I previously used a Master System one and it seriously was able to be used to fry eggs on!

Dat prototype board for Star Control though. Goddamn.

So, i currently have a project i helped on up at NintendoAge, but i just wanted to pimp the game quick:

If you haven't played it, Psy-O-Blade is a Genesis port of the MSX game, that was mainly a point and click adventure game. To be fair, the game does cut out a bit in the transition, but its a pretty fun point-and-click adventure game. I worked on the design for the box and the full-color manual. The translators both gave their blessing to the project, but i'm super proud of how it turned out. There is a link below if you wanna read more on it, but yeah, i'm a big fan on cool sci-fi stuff on the Genesis.

Hey that's cool. I'd be interested in one, if we can make it happen here. I don't have a nintendoage account. But I'm scared of worldwide shipping. Does it come with a clamshell? Or is it a cardboard?

You did great, but red Genesis label ruins everything imo.
