Even if you are late to the party on raiding, there are always people willing to take first timers thru, even if only to teach them the ropes.
The game has changed very much since year 1, and you no longer need to raid to reach max light level. Infact, I would suggest doing as much of the other content as you can until you feel like you are ready to raid. Usually around 300 light you can do normal Kings Fall raid, but newbie raids take people even lower.
Prison of Elders gives out good gear at the higher levels, and crucible is more rewarding.
Strikes have strike specific gear that can go a long way at getting you leveled up, or help you on your journey.
Basically, now is a pretty good time to jump back in.
If you have trouble communicating, you can always ask for native speakers, or if not enough here, find a clan in bungie.net that speak your native language for best results.
Even before that, we are usually pretty nice, even if you dont speak perfect english, we have plenty of english as a second language speakers here that are well versed, and skilled that have little to no problem with doing raids with everyone else.
