Deus Ex: Mankind Divided PC performance thread

Deadly Cyclone

Pride of Iowa State
I'm on a GTX980 and 4790k and still getting only 45-50fps. Any good spec lists I should follow? I tried a few, and even let the Nvidia software set my setting but seems to still get 50fps.

2500K @ 4.31 GHz + Zotac AMP GTX 1080 + 16 GB RAM + SSD

1440p Ultra preset
Anisotropic Filtering upgraded to 16x
Contact Hardening Shadows downgraded to On
Volumetric Lighting downgraded to On
No MSAA

Gets me 55-60 fps most of the time in borderless window mode with vsync engaged. Drops down to the mid 40s briefly if I run into some more complex spots in the middle of Prague.

Any idea why ReShade is crashing the game? It's the first time I ever used it, maybe I'm doing something wrong?

I'm getting the mission 14 crash that others are reporting.. aside from this, I''ve had only 1 crash in 32 hrs of play.

definitely noticing some weird behavior.. it crashes in exactly the same spot every time and only when loading into the area with jensen's apartment.

figuring there must be something about the state of my game that is causing it to crash. maybe I can send them my save file to see if they can reproduce it.

I've tried unchecking all dlc, setting things to low, etc.. even reverted back to version 1.0 and it hasn't made a difference. still the exact same spot... about 7/8s of the way through the bar.

Anyone else getting the problem where the game stops loading at the loading screens? After entering a new place, the game got stuck at the loading screen. I had to force quit the game to get out of it. It's happened twice for me already.

The 1070 runs hitman at 4k maxed out at 40fps. Might underestimate the 1070 which is a serious beast. Not saying it runs DXMD at those settings at 60fps without doubt, but I don't think it sound impossible at all considering.

I have one clocked stable at 2100Mhz.

I can assure you 4K and 60Fps is impossible. :D

Why the hell can't I launch the game right now?

Steam says there is an update required, but when I try to launch, I get an error that says "An error occured while updating Deus Ex: Mankind Divided (missing content manifest)"

I can't even verify integiry of game cache. It just sits there at 0%.

Obviously my internet is working so I'm a bit confused.

Game is currently trying to update but then fails. What are they doing over there? Have never seen a game on Steam struggle so much with downloading.

Tried restarting Steam? I had some weird issue where it just kept on doing the disk-usage graph-line, even though there was no actual disk usage, and it kept on repeating... Restarted Steam and it picked up the patch and downloaded straight away.

Set your download region in Steam to a European country. Try again.

Are you're running two injectors at the same time? Disable anything with an overlay - Afterburner/Raptor/Fraps/any other dll mods

I had Afterburner and RTSS running. I did disable it previously but is still crashes in the same manner. I am not aware of having any other injector active.

I did not think I would live to see this - HardOCP is praising temporal AA. They were bashing TXAA every opportunity they had, so it's a welcome surprise:
http://www.hardocp.com/article/2016/08/24/deus_ex_mankind_divided_performance_iq_preview/

Temporal AA / TSSAA as used in Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, DOOM, Fallout 4, most UE4 games and World of Tanks has some pretty large differences to TXAA - I don't think it's unusual to like one and dislike the other

They even have a whole page showing benefits of TAA on slider comparisons:

/24/deus_ex_mankind_divided_performance_iq_preview/8[/url] - this shows blurring of texture details, but luckily we can prevent that with lumasharpen

It looks like the TAA is just canceling out the sharpening effect, the texture hasn't actually lost any detail.
Some of the AA off shots look like they would be suffering from texture aliasing even without the sharpening effect enabled.

Interesting.

I'm not getting that amount of blurring at 1440p with TAA enabled, nor are the textures as sharp with AA disabled. It almost looks as if they have in-game sharpening on for all of the comparisons in that link.

A few comparisons I just took myself (no sharpening through Reshade or in-game)...

NZJE.png

AA disabled.

v7BP.png

TAA enabled.

eJOg.png

AA disabled.

P5J5.png

TAA enabled.

The closest I could get to replicating their results was the below comparison. However, the "sharpness" afforded with AA disabled in the below scene could be described as aliasing itself, especially evident in the texture of the crosswalk paint. I think TAA simply removes the high noise on some of these more contrast-y textures, which I consider an improvement.

With TAA on, I don't see much of an actual reduction in detail, just near complete elimination of all forms of aliasing, texture aliasing included.

2WoE.png

AA disabled.

YKJQ.png

TAA enabled.

Also, looking at the textures just now doing these comparisons, It hit me how detailed the majority of them are when compared to other recent FPS games.

Should I be using borderless window instead of fullscreen to see better performance, or do you use BL just as a matter of preference?

I found a new issue, thanks to the latest patch that added actual FOV degree values to the in-game slider. It looks like anything above 96 degrees actually reduces lod distance, and introduces flickering between the high quality and lower quality lod model transitions. I would post a video, but I don't have any means of doing a quick upload. If anyone know an easy way to upload videos besides youtube, let me know.

If anyone wants to test this themselves, face your back against the exterior front door of the Palisade Bank. Walk forward, then backward multiple times, and note the lod transitions in the distance. At 96 and under, no flicker, longer transition distances. 98 or above, shorter lod distances, and lots of flicker between the transitions.

Not sure what's going on there, but I'm keeping mine at 90 for now.
Not sure why you'd want to go higher than 90

Holy shit does this game use some special kind of MSAA? It literally cuts my framerate in half when set at 4x. Whatsup with that?

Allow me to say that if I use the High preset with a I5 3570K, 980 Ti and 8GB of RAM, despite being bottlenecked by CPU (since it's at 100%) I find the experience all around smoother and I get higher FPS.

The differences is that it seems to disable tesselation and lower level of detail + textures.

Since I'm with Gsync everything is fucking smooth now and with incredible frame pacing, the experience now goes around 70 to 90 FPS in Prague second zone where I was taking high perf hits.

Since they also fixed the mouse with the latest patch, I'm 100% happy right now. The game still looks incredible at High preset.

Yes, it is a special kind, it's called...MSAA :p

It's always been unbelievably expensive in game's with deferred rendering, and it probably will continue to be.

I personally wouldn't. I was simply pointing out that anything over 96 appears to break lod distance/transitions. Just a heads up to those who want it over 90.

I don't know if this is a common issue, but even if I set the game to lowest, and my FPS overlay is reporting 70+fps the game just does not feel like it's that smooth. If I load up GTA V and play on there it's smooth as butter (I have a 100hz monitor) but something about this game feels very juddery.

Anyone have any idea what's up? I have 2 Titan X's 2015s in SLI and it feels terrible.

EDIT. Rebooted the game now and it feels much smoother. Not sure what on earth happened, but seem fine now. Mouse still doesn't feel right though.

Both blur the image more than other AA methods. I personally liked TXAA just like I like TAA - I much prefer blurring to aliasing and shimmering. For me pixel shimmering and other visual noise when moving the camera in game with poor AA really spoiled the experience.

Doesn't border less make DSR not work? Unless it's a 1440p monitor or custom resolution than yeah it would run better because it's really not downsampling. Though my performance is pretty much the same at 1440p definitely can go higher than 60 often but I have vsync on and then the most demanding areas go to the 40s.

This is weird but my 970 appears to run the game smoother with high shadows instead of medium. Oh well, great I guess.

Is there any way to enable subtitles for just the non-english dialogue.

Only just realised I'm actually missing a lot of dialogue since I the subtitles do describe it in English, but I don't want subtitles for everything

The new patch seems to have broken AO for me. Anything at a distance has this horrible shimmering artefacting, as if there is rain pouring off surfaces. Horrible.

Fullscreen (or Exclusive Fullscreen as it's called here) should get you slightly better performance, but I believe that's just a general thing that applies to most modern video games. I usually prefer borderless window (or Fullscreen as it's called here) for photo/video capture, streaming and Alt+Tab reasons!

Is it just me or are many metal surfaces way too reflective/shiny? Like outdoor electrical boxes in the beginning of the Dubai level, some cars in Prague, parts of vents, etc. Also, mud puddles are almost like mirrors at times. Really distracting. =/

Edit: looks like the reflections aren't always accurate either. Is this a bug? My computer?

Is anyone else having trouble updating in Steam to the latest patch? It just says there's an update ready and it looks like it's trying to download, then after a few minutes and fails and says its unable to update.

I have plenty of disk space on the drive available, my internet connection is fine, steam was able to update two other games just fine (NMS and Hitman)

edit: Apparently it's a Steam download server problem. I tried a few download centers in the US but none worked. Switched to Frankfurt Germany and it downloaded right away. Thanks Germany!

I'm basing it on the benchmarks below. As you can see a 8350@4.6 bottlenecks the 480 and makes it perform worse than a 1060, even in Vulkan. It actually seems Vulkan is better at eliminating the CPU bottleneck for Nvidia cards than for AMD cards. The 1060 almost performs the same on a x4 955 versus a 6700k@4.5 in Vulkan.

W3 isn't a very CPU intensive game outside a few key locations. Would be surprised if you weren't CPU bottlenecked in Novigrad.
Isn't that the reverse? The X4 955 performing better with Nvidia cards implies the GPU is bottlenecking the CPU, but it's probably them AMD drivers. All I'm seeing here is that the 1060 gets better numbers than the 480 independent of the CPU used. Unless we're actually saying the same thing but semantics

And in Novigrad my CPU and GPU are fairly even, load-wise, remember that I'm just using a 280X, hardly a new GPU these days :p

Earlier in the thread it seemed the highest SSR setting broke some of the reflections, try lowering it?

I am so happy to be a hoarder today. Their lame 21:9 "fix" didn't cut it, so I fetched my Eizo 2421 from storage to use instead of the z35. I was actually about to sell it some time ago, but I will have to make a mental note to save it for occasions like these. Well, no more misaligned UI for me! (and sadly no gsync either ...)

Has anyone else had their game stall when trying to speak with the vendor at Tech Noir? I get through the conversation and when it comes time to look at what he has for sale the game just stays in the over the shoulder conversation view until I load a previous save.

I don't know what the 21:9 fix even did. A bunch of stuff is still broken, including the hacking mini-game, the positioning is off.

(apologies if this was covered previously, I did a basic scan of the thread but wow)

Playing on a 1080, got 8GB Ram, nice little gaming machine here. Ran fine at pretty ultra settings for the first 2 or 3 hours, then jumping on a train in Praha the load took (quite literally) 15 minutes orso. Ever since it's been choppy af, loads take FOREVER, at least 5 minutes on area load, a good 2 minutes to even go back to the main menu, is generally unplayable at sub 1fps\stuttering, no matter how low I set the graphical settings (currently everything off/low and same results).

This is the goddamn second high-profile high-price highly anticipated game I got that was utterly unplayable in as many weeks.

Ok. In my system is an i5 4670k, 8gb ram and an AMD 280x.

I run everything on high/very high, FOV 90. This resulted in 45-35FPS with strange stutters.
Now (after the patch) these stutters are completely gone!

Thanks Nixxes!
