Gundam X 6-10

The characters here are super good, I like them all. The Frost brothers are just enough over the top to be an enjoyable duo for now. While I'm also no fan of mute characters, I still like Tiffa. Her newtypes powers seems quite hard to deal with and I'm curious to see how everything will progress with the introduction of the new newtype boy who seems much more accustomed to his powers.

Has for the actions it's also quite good. Some nice fighting moment, but the best moments are all related to the satellite canon. Also convenient how everybody fight the crew when night is coming and the moon shows up. +1 point for snowboarding mechas.

The one thing that does bother me a little is the lack of any good soundtrack so far. Not a single one got my attention yet.

AOTY for sure. Anime sure stinks these days. The TV AOTY is going to be a Taiwanese Puppet Show, and the Movie AOTY is going to be a Live Action Film.

Enjoyed it. Well, sans some horrifying character designs, character art and CG. For once too, I get the complaints about the sameness of Shinkai's output, since VotDS is in a lot of ways, 5cm redux or rather 5cm was the redux of Voices. Even down to quite noticeable repetition of shots if my memory serves me.. But it didn't bother me a whole since it's been quite a while.

Hotarubi no Mori e

Well this was really neat and ...
bloody depressing. I stuck the whole credits and the very pretty ending song waiting for some reversal, cause somehow I was convinced there is a whole TV show connected to this (have since, learned the difference between this and Natsume) and thus it cannot end this way but alas...

Godzilla has always been anime of the year, even his recap movie* is better than a recap episode.

Okay that's a lie, Godzilla's Revenge is pretty horrible :(

Mob Psycho 100 Episode 8 – The Older Brother Bows ~Destructive Intent~

Would have been a perfect episode if the bad artstyle and lackluster animation hadnt ruined everything. If it looked traditional it would have easily been one of the best anime of the season. #TeamRitsu forever, Ritsu is the best, and I loved both powers from Ritsu and Mob, and also the antagonist.

Mob Psycho 100 - episode 8

Holy shit at the animation. Might be the most well animated episode yet and that's saying a whole lot considering how well animated all of the other episodes are.

Why Shin Godzilla is AOTY:

So, time to put more words into this.

I thought it was fantastic and exactly what I expected and wanted out of an Anno Godzilla film. This is a film that embraces the kaiju genre, respects the origin of Godzilla, and understands modern Japanese society.

There are no fucks given in the making of Godzilla here. If you don't accept the fact that Godzilla is traditionally a rubber suit monster, it might be hard to enjoy this the way it is meant to be. This isn't chasing Hollywood's version of Godzilla, this is Japanese as fuck. That's not to say it isn't serious, but it is internally serious. It doesn't feel the need to present itself as something trying to for photorealistic CG, but rather the CG tries as best it can to look like a stop motion model. It is dumb at times? Yes! Is it really cheesy? YES! Does it get motherfucking amazing when it wants to? OMG YES.

So the question is, if Godzilla remains quirky and cheesy, and doesn't look like a super detailed realistic CG creature, how can we take it seriously? Because everyone in the film does. The movie is certainly presented seriously, even if it is self-aware at the ridiculousness of a giant monster. That is part of what sets this apart from Hollywood renditions of Godzilla. Here, the seriousness is driven by the critique on Japanese bureaucracy, the challenges of multinational collaboration, the difficulty in reacting to an unprecedented disaster, and so on. It works because Anno is really good at nailing establishing shots and creating a sense of place. The contrast of the ordinary and familiar against the fantastical and ridiculousness is what makes the Godzilla event so interesting.

I found the characters very refreshing for a kaiju film, and it was interesting that they chose not to highlight much of the military might at all in terms of characters (although, they do show off a lot of hardware porn), instead using the cast to really hammer home that when something like this happens in modern Japan, everything is down to decisions made by talking heads who often don't have a good grasp of the situation but have to make snap decisions.

The Anti-Godzilla Task Force formed in the film is a special projects office rather than some special ops squad, and how the film depicts them reminds me a lot of an anime production studio. You have the young ambitious get-goer with alternative views who wants to make a real difference, he puts together a team of like-minded quirky individuals who are passionate about the same thing, and they sit in an office filled with boring generic office equipment, racing against time to crunch the numbers and put together the plan to take down the monster. Undermanned, underfunded, underappreciated, but powered by an idealistic view of the working class Japanese adult, they shred red tape to come up with a solution against an unbeatable force of nature. It was really entertaining to see it unfold.

The music, the effects, the shot composition, the editing, even the ridiculous climax. I loved it all. The only thing I would say made me think "damn that's not so good" was the stupid ass American Japanese envoy who is played by some hot model actress who speaks in Engrish. But considering how Evangelion the movie felt, that just kinda stopped being annoying and just got charming after a while.

That was a fun as fuck movie. Wanna watch it again...

I'm not even 5 minutes into the episode yet but the faces and animation are just so, so bad this week. :( It's really a pity, since I love this show otherwise.

Mob Psycho 08

I think that instead of an new character getting the spotlightI'd have preferred to see the brothers fight, where there were higher stakes and more interesting character dynamics, i and but I guess that would irrevocably made Ritsu into a overwrought, drama queen edgelord and is clearly not where the storyline is going.

As always, a treat animation and direction wise. The amount and quality of great character art and action cuts is mightily impressive.

Mob Ep 8

Wow.

Loved everything about this ep. The revelation that
Ritsu has always feared Shigeo, and that's why he was such a "loving" brother was a great moment.

Seeds of conflict have been planted. Finally have a feel about where the show is going. And I like it.

Trails in the Sky Chapter 1 END

Prologue ended with an good sense of mystery and suspense which elevated the already great elements of the game: mission structure, combat, setting and characters. Chapter 1 cleared most of the pressing questions in regard to the events and left a few more in return but I was surprised at the revelations that happened towards the end which I had thought would drag on till the very end of the game. It's a liberating feeling but this chapter doesn't end with the same degree of suspense as the prologue which isn't necessarily a bad thing. It does leave me with a lot less to wonder about in the story.

There's something about the game that I haven't really felt in any other JRPG - it is what I believe is a combination of all the aforementioned elements and not just one in particular. The mission structure is built on the setting that the lead characters are new recruits of a police force under the label: Bracers. The immense tactical options through Arts, Crafts in combination with the meta game instill a sense of power and confidence which is something that the Brace role demands. It's a living world with each and every NPC having their own names and little stories to tell making the game all the more compelling.

Thunderbolt Fantasy 08

Well well well... that was an interesting twist predictable as it may have been.

I posted a game update but then felt guilty for not posting anime so I added the Thunderbolt Fantasy update only to realize later that it is a puppet show.

SAO Abridged - 10

SWE seriously knocked it out of the park with Yui. The way Kirito and Asuna's relationship with her developed is 9001x superior to the source material. They were initially
using her as a pawn for their bizarre relationship mindgames, to the point of trying to buy more kids for her.

Her
justification for moving in with Kirito and Asuna
is hilarious, yet makes actual sense.

I really thought it was sweet in it's own way and sort of reminds us, social problems aside, that Kirito and Asuna are a couple of dumb teenagers doing dumb teenager-in-love things like get into stupid mental infinite if/else loops.

I can't wait to see them do Fairy Dance (I really hope they don't Popo vs Garlic Jr it, that would be a bad).

Speaking of which, Inner Kirito/Asuna 1 and 2 do the same Left Right Channel thing Kami and Neil do in DBZA.

Oh and does anyone have a credit for Yui? I'm swinging in the dark in thinking that's Kira Buckland (which would be funny as she's the dub voice of Kuroyuki in Accell World) but Sony pulling their nonsnese sort of blanked that out...

Mob Psycho - 08

Those fights were utter insanity. I honestly didn't expect such a hard sakuga spike when the show already looked real good previously. But not just the animation quality itself was impressive, I loved the choreography and general direction. You could feel the vicious impact of every strike.

Honestly, among those more fantastical, supernatural fight sequences, this one has to be among my top candidates.

Schrödinger's animu. This current arc has confused me. Are they dead? Are they alive? Is this Lost? I have no idea what's going on anymore, but I'm hoping that's supposed to be the case and I haven't missed anything important.

Welcome to Hinamizawa, enjoy the ride!

If you end up liking the series' style and can bear with reading through visual novels, then you might want to check Umineko out. There's actually an anime adaptation of it, but it was so bad and so poorly received that it only ended up covering half of the source material before being put off for good.

Also, remember that after the first Higurashi anime there's another one covering the later arcs.
It's pretty nutty, and despite being confused by the current arc I'm really enjoying it. If Umineko has a similar vibe then I'll definitely make a note to check it out because I love stuff like this.

It's either Tales of Zestiria or Mob psycho 100.

My biggest disappontment has to be Food Wars s2, I have absolutly no drive to go watch the episodes I missed.

Witchcraft Works 1

There's a character named Obama who beats people up while shouting Engrish phrases.

There's also an army of giant killer rabbit robots and some other stuff, but that was what stuck out to me the most.

Apparently Kameda was on MP100 #8. Rewatched the episode in lieu of the missing Danganronpa episode and maaaan its some fantastic stuff. The episode is just a never ending barrage of cool shit. If I wasn't so JoJo biased I'd say this episode put MP100 over JoJo for me...but I'm JoJo biased.

Here
are
some
examples.

This part by here by Yutapon is just absurd. It puts his Concrete Revolutio and One Punch Man parts to shame.

Really this is the best case scenario we could've got when we heard who the staff was on Mob Psycho 100. From the first PV it looked impressive but its blown past that, good shit. Episode of the season? Where tf are duckroll and narag to shill this

Bit by bit it unravels, and then you'll find what you need in the 2nd season. It's very worth it.
