Mass Effect Andromeda Official 4K Tech Video

Art direction doesn't look like Mass Effect at all. It looks like Dragon Inquisition. That's a very noticeable and disappointing thing as ME1 and ME2 had very distinct and stellar art direction.

Damn, I had the exact same thought. Not a good thought.

So.. Is the implication that your teammates won't be with you like they were in the last game? Or was this just a "you go on ahead and we'll find a way around" kind of thing? I heard Brad Shoemaker say something like that but maybe I misheard.

I feel like I have to ask given the constant RPG simplification in these games.

And yeah... having party members disappear but reappear in cutscenes is a good idea and a bad idea at the same time...

Bioware really doesn't want to show off any interesting gameplay. The visuals looked very nice, beyond the generic white guy.

Flynn tweeted this:

Not sure how I feel about that character design - the jacket thing doesn't really make sense, especially if it's supposed to be the combat armor

Let's not forget this series had Jack running around in nothing but pants and 2 leather straps on her chest. This is tame compared to what Bioware previously designed.

The point of E3 trailer was to show that they're working on the game.
The point of PS Experience trailer was to show the graphic.

EA marketing strikes again.

That's Scott Ryder, the default scanned face from an actor, not the character creator.

The point is that Bioware's marketing went for possibly the blandest video game character of all time to show their game. Whether it's from the character creator or a face scan of an actual actor, the dude just makes me fall asleep.

I don't have a 4k TV/Monitor so I wouldn't be able to see it in 4k anyhow. But under 4k, doesn't look all that impressive.

Boring tech demo. Ugly character design for that Asari. Really really ugly. Take note from your own library next time PLEASE....

Seriously, why is her midriff showing? It looks so stupid. I guess they have to sexualize her in some way huh :(

Appearance is always subjective but it's not like this will be the only footage until launch lol. Plenty more videos to come. People like to see what the default models look like.

Didn't look all that hot to me. At least it was about exploration. That the squadmates appear out of nowhere is hopefully just because of the alpha status

They showed the default male Ryder which is useful info for some, like me, who will be playing as a guy.

Yep, and that's quite worrying

As someone who's probably played more DAI than anything else in this thread, I am not getting a DAI vibe. What's that even mean, exactly?

As a huge Mass Effect fan, I find myself surprisingly underwhelmed by that video.

Why the hell would a clunky platforming segment be the first proper gameplay you show for something like ME?

Either way, looked beautiful which is nice I guess.

Hello, my name is Yves Guillemot, Vivendi S.A.'s Employee of the Month!
Giving an Asari a more naturalistic face and then designing her to show off her belly button for no reason at all seems a bit contradictory. You already have a party member with a huge ass. ಠ_ಠ

They showed the default male Ryder which is useful info for some, like me, who will be playing as a guy.
I mean congrats? Doesn't make the dude's appearance any less bland or generic.

This a huge improvement compared to other bioware games, but not up to par when you consider other rpgs like Witcher 3. Witcher 3 stays ahead of the RPG industry at every turn... >_>

Also Bioware wtf happened with advertising the game with the female as default?? Why show off generic white male #539585793389627?!

Witcher 3 isn't the open world game I'd hold up as the best animation wise, that's easily MGS V. GTA V is quite impressive as well.

Not sure it's meant to be combat armor. Looks more like Nathan Drake like adventurer outfit.

Didn't they say that there wont be a default? Afaik will the marketing be more like what Inquisition did

That was underwhelming.

Also, I am probably the only one who doesn't care about 4k. That doesn't even look that good. Looks mostly the same as every other PS4 game.

60FPS would be a far, far better choice.

True, although there was a purpose with showing off Jack's tattoos to emphasize who she was, whereas I'm not entirely sure what belly button jacket does.

I know, but using this as the face of the (male) primary character is just disappointing. There's zero unique features to the character, it's incredibly bland design (along with the amount of brown-haired white dudes we already get).

This wasn't meant to be a gameplay demonstration. It's a visual showcase. I've seen quite a bit of the game and I'm not understanding the "DAI vibes" comments.

Well for starters the animations look just as bad as previous Bioware games. By that I mean the animations are overly stiff at certain segments such as when you use the jetpack boost and then over-done in other segments such as the Asari almost tipping over from the explosion. The facial animations also look somewhat janky which is again a classic Bioware trademark at this point.

There's then the art direction with the heavy emphasis on neon green lighting as seen in the Inquisition rifts. Not to mention the angular geometry as seen in Inquisition also makes a return here for the architecture so it comes off as fairly fake even for an alien structure. It's more of a modern take on alien architecture than something like in the original ME trilogy which had more organic looking alien locations. The location is supposed to be overgrown as seen by the plants but instead comes off as pristine compared to Ilos for example.

Not to mention the clothing design of the Asari for example is something out of Inquisition, not that Mass Effect was ever particularly good at being consistent about that.

Man, pretty visuals aside, that was kinda boring. I don't want to judge the game based on a small sample piece, but I did get an Inquisition-vibe from it and that is not a good thing. I still want to remain optimistic about Andromeda, but it's not easy after Inquisition turned to be such a dud. Looking back, Dragon Age: 2 turned out to be much better then Inquisition, with a far better main character, better quests, a better main story etc. So I am not pleased at all to hear from the survey leak that Andromeda would use Inquisition as a base.

Hope Sony releases more of those videos in 4K, even if the Youtube compression makes them look worse than Blu Rays on my 4K TV.

This. I hope they offer them for download too so we can see them without extra compression and play the file directly on our 4K tvs.

There's a good chance I might use a dude for my first run-through.

But not that plain-ass wanker. There's nothing memorable or visually appealing about him at all. It's like they didn't even try.

The only thing bothering me about the asari is that escape part in which she channeled anime girl running, reminded me of that Yuffie rip-off from FFXV

Animations made it look really awkward. Especially that escape sequence. I'm gonn wait until we see some gameplay. Can't be that far off if they plan to release it early next year.

The E3 video was much more impressive - IMO both visually and in terms of capturing that mass effect "vibe". The showing today seemed lackluster in comparison.

E3 2016 trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y2vgHOXeps0

edit: the animations really bug me in that cutscene. it's like they did a straight copypasta of the running/vaulting animations in the original ME trilogy. Facial animations also seem pretty meh. If this guy is supposed to be surprised, why are his eyes glazed over? :/

All I got out of this was "we'll actually start impressing you in November".

Back to my corner of the internet going "give us a Mass Effect Trilogy remaster, EA!" until then.

I keep looking at that Asari and I can't get over how bad her design is.

Between her and Dude Ryder, it looks like Bioware needs to step up their game. Because it doesn't even seem like they're playing right now.

How do you get "Inquisition-vibe" from 3mn video a guy walking around ? I don't get it, there's like zero gameplay aside from some jetpacking and scanning a plant.
