Digital is 8800 yen.
Meaning I had to get a 10000 yen PSN card to buy it ;___;

I watched a Twitch stream (from game beginning) for a bit and holy shit, I like the atmosphere.
Ditto, and there's basically nothing interesting on the store for my remaining ¥1,200. But it's still cheaper than the physical game + shipping, and so much faster.

Yeah, I also have a 4 day weekend starting from tomorrow so I had to get the game right away.

Uguuuuu. Can't decide if I should drop for a 10,000 yen card.

Basically the same price as 5000 + 3000 + 1000 yen cards so yeah, if you're planning to buy from PSN :p

i dont know a word in japanese, and preordered the 20th Anniversary Edition for 12k yen from amiami
does the contents make it worth it? or should i cancel it? very confused
persona 4 golden is one of my best games ever btw

Ami really don't like it when you cancel. Do it often enough and you'll get banned. You could just let your payment deadline run out and they'll cancel the order, but that also risks your account. If you don't plan on playing it you could keep it sealed as a collectible or something. Or wait for translation guides to crop up and play it then.

9500 Yen?

Surely that's a mistake, holy fuck

i can't imagine many people are actually paying list. amazon.jp has it for 7700 yen, for example.

Paying 8800 for the PSN version felt bad but since amazon shipping to the US was looking like $92 all-in & I had 1200 yen in PSN credit lying around, it was cheaper to go digital.

Well the concern is more about me not knowing Japanese but wanting to play and wondering if it's worth $100 to play something I can't read :p

if you've never tried to consume media in a language you don't understand, an rpg might be a hard way to start

but then again in high school i imported Vermillion for Genesis and beat it (by brute forcing a few segments, though) despite having zero ability in Japanese so who am i to give advice.

the biggest burden to completing an RPG is when the game needs you to go to a specific (unmarked) location or obtain a specific thing. example: i would never have completed Yokai Watch 2 if i couldn't translate a request that a guy wanted to see a turtle yokai (which meant being able to identify the right name in the random encounter, capturing it, and bringing it back).

Welllllll, imagine if you had played earlier games in the series in a language you didn't understand. Would you have liked them as much?
Good question. Character interactions/story would be basically gone in Japanese, but the battle system and music, both of which I rather enjoy would remain. Not as much for sure, but still enjoyable I think.

Hard to say if that's worth $100. Feeling indecisive for sure. Guess I've got a bit longer to decide.

Dattebayo? Nani? Make sure you know the honorifics like "-san" and "-kun". Fighting should be easy to figure out. Just keep pressing buttons and watch what happens.

Watching the stream, there's a lot of reading (as expected).

But the language seems easy enough for a Japanese student, like P4.

The Twitch stream is 30fps but doesn't really confirm a thing.

I am currently in this exact boat. I may just watch some streams and whet my whistle that way. I'm already paying for the ultimate Western version, it would be absurd to pay almost $100 to play a version I can only vaguely understand! HAHA, RIGHT!?

*sweats nervously, finger over Amazon.jp order*

Oooh. That's one thing I didn't consider. The battle system should be easy enough, but actually knowing where to go would be harder....

Hm.

I'll wait, have fun importers!
My only question is if the Take your heart edition will also include the DLC that the OP listed there? I didn't knew about that!

The Take Your Heart Edition for other regions doesn't include the P3 and P4 costumes... which means either 2 things... We gotta pay for it which is sad but I support them so I'll do it OR... it's an unlock-able in the game like you can buy it or unlock it via a quest.

My copy's coming from Amazon.co.jp - hypothetically getting here the 18th or 19th but in my experience they tend to overestimate shipping times for me. So we'll see!

I ordered from Nippon-Yasan and it says 3-4 days, but I fear it may take way longer than that.

This thread is kinda surreal.

This is just part one of the journey. The REAL journey (for myself, at least) begins on February 14th 2017 and I literally might just explode in the OT for this game. Might actually do a face reveal holding my copy of the game too.

I was hoping I had at least 800 yen in my account to make the cost for digital better.
I had 600...

That's not a bad thing though, I would have had to delete a lot to make room for it on my PS3. I'll just have to wait a little longer.

It was difficult to stop watching as it was so interesting, but closed the stream. I'll continue tomorrow myself :p

Music was so good, boss theme and EXP screen theme... damn badass.

Amazon.jp won't be shipping my CE until the fifteenth and it has an estimated arrival of the eighteenth. I only trust that somewhat.

Gonna stream as much as possible while I play this. I might even do a stream for the countdown, lol.

I have a few streaming options, hitbox, twitch, or youtube. Any preferences?

Some of those offer re-stream options and auto-upload options. I've never been able to get Twitch to work for me, but it is listed as an option. :p

Always prefer youtube over the others just because.

Everything seems so clean and smooth on the stream my gawd.

The animated portraits, cut-ins, various UI elements...

Does anyone know if you can turn on subtitles in the anime cutscenes?

Yeah they were on in the stream.

I'm going to look up the gameplay options BTW, I captured the screen watching the stream but got to find the spot.
There was quite a lot of them.

This is great, the anime cutscenes were my biggest worry.
Now all I need to hear is that they pause when we go to the home menu like in Catherin(or if they can be paused normally). It would be nice to not have to reload saves or risk spoilers when looking up the scenes on Youtube.

Persona 3 & 4 DLC outfits for Persona 5
Izanagi and Orpheus DLC Persona for Persona 5

Wow this is awesome! Will these be available in the US as well? They're not tied to a specific version of the game right? Even though I'm getting the CE here, just want to make sure I can get that stuff.

Also is there a way to download the game off the JPN PSN in the US like you could on PS3?
Edit: nvm, just saw it in the op. How hard is it to set up a JPN account on PS4 and how much was it for people doing it that way? Like which size PSN card did you buy and what was the total?

I'll probably just stare at the box in my hands on that day for a good 2 minutes.

I purchased Dark Souls 3 in Japanese because I couldn't wait. I thought the same as you in that I might have a hard go. Honestly, using Google Translate app and just taking pictures of the TV worked out great. Plus, I learned a few things, lol.

OK, so I'm super tempted to grab this cause well...Persona. But before I do I wanna ask, before I get spoiled or anything if there are any good places you folks know of translation guides, I found tradukosoft saying they're doing one but have no idea how good/useful that'll be since I've got no idea if they've done stuff like that before. Another thing, I'll probably go digital so is there any place that I can grab JP PSN money for a reasonable price where I can use paypal? Or heck, could I just use my normal paypal through the jp store?

I wonder how reliable it'll be for P5. The font is a little wonky.

gonna be skimming this thread for impressions over the coming days, but I don't want to touch any black boxes with a ten foot pole.

Hope you all love it!

It was a difficult decision, but I've elected to wait for the NA release due to timing and such. It'll be sad to miss out on playing it with my friends, but I'll enjoy it more with more time in the future.

If it wasn't for DQ7 coming out this week here, I would have already bought this. Hell, I still might. I played Persona Q in japanese and again in English when it came out here and loved it both times.

Greatly looking forward to all the impressions!

You don't understand how tempted I am now to just buy it and write and translate any kanji I don't know into my Note.

Edit: Maybe replay cutscenes using the PS4 record function
