BioShock: The Collection |OT| Once is not enough.

Yeah, I recently played Bioshock 1 and Bioshock Infinite back to back on PC and I was really annoyed by Infinite's lack of a manual save option. I had to keep playing until I reached an auto-save point. And the game saves so quickly that you can easily miss the saving indicator. But if you choose to return to the title screen it will tell you when the game last saved.

Yeah, played 30 minutes longer last night than I wanted to. The loading bug on X1 has happened three times now...

I'm not really bothered by the way flowing water looks.

I am bothered by the fact that the water in flushing toilets and running sinks still looks like it came out of the N64 era.

Really jarring in a game with an otherwise pretty nice fresh coat of paint.

Improved FOV is very much welcomed. Hated how cramped it was on the 360.

Yeah.

Really punctuated lots of moments for me, and (coupled with the fps boost) heightened the tension in some of the jump-scare moments.

So on the original Bioshock, is there screen tearing on consoles? I can't play Bioshock 1 on 360 anymore now that I notice it.

Got it, played the original Bioshock for 2 hours last night and walked away quite impressed. It looks closer to what my mind wants to remember Bioshock looking like on Xbox 360, but I know there's huge improvements. The frame-rate isn't %100 stable, but 60 FPS feels damn good. Bioshock still impresses to this day, what an incredible testament to this stone-cold masterpiece.

I haven't run into any technical issues yet and hope I don't. PS4, by the way.

Been playing Bioshock 1 for a couple hours now and loving it like I did back in the day. I like how crisp everything looks now. Signs easy to read and details easier on the eyes

Also the gameplay has been super smooth for the most part which is great

I own all of this stuff (main games + DLC), so is it worth picking up for the graphical enhancements or should I just replay the originals on 360?

XB1 version right? Everything running great, no achievement faults? I'm starting my run on Friday and I don't want to replay parts of the game if something is wrong still.

There's no way you guys can't notice a hude difference in the tunnel section, at around 1:30

Yeah, honestly wonder if those posts are trolling. Even just the still image of it is night and day. Like, the water rushing through the crack is easily twice as voluminous looking on the old version, there aren't air bubbles rushing out of the crack on the outside on the new version, and the top of the water flowing down looks a lot worse (though that part I would believe people couldn't tell the difference if they were barely paying attention). All in all, you have to be blind not to see AT LEAST the bubble and water spray differences.

Everything is great on the One, can confirm.

I'm having issues loading games on BI. Was deleting local saves, no longer working. Chapter restart broken too. How can you fuck up a 3 year old game????

EDIT. Rolled back 2 chapters to get a good save..

Damn, just finished it on Survivor without Vita-Chambers. Was hoping the finale would be a lot more challenging...

Can't say I had any issues deleting saves or reloading them throughout my run. Sorry about that.

That's a section you literally pass in a second when you're playing it.

Yyyyyyeah but that section was part of the game's identity defining starting sequence. It was hugely, hugely impressive at the time. To see it get attentuated on a much more powerful console a decade later is really deflating.

Also, the rest of the water in the game is just in general less impressive. Given it's a game with water as part of it's central theme, this strikes me as a fuck up by these guys.

I fucked up somewhere cause I didn't get the Brass Balls achievement. 😔

EDIT: it actually HAS to be on Hard?! Nooooooooo

yikes some significant stuttering during infinite's intro OK xb1.. it's not horrible but it's not ideal. just got to Neptune's bounty on bioshock, it seems to run fine.

I notice a significant difference and still think it's not a big deal. I'm glad that those changes are being brought to light and scrutinized though.

I mean.. you're talking about bubbles and water spray here lol.

The devs completely forgot anisotropic filtering on the textures so floors and walls look like blurry shit more than 4 feet away from the camera

Is the lack of AF only on PS4 or did devs also forget anisotropic filtering on the Xbox One port?

One tiny thing I've noticed that's different from the original is that in Arcadia there was a nod to The Legend of Zelda where
you would have to use incinerate on a unlit torch to open a door
. It's already done for you. I liked that part.

Looking at that screenshot, don't see what the big deal is. I can't watch the video right now

They made the water flooding in look like a cheap particle effect. It looks way worse in motion :(. It's actually animated geometry in the original. Seems they replaced a buncha water effects with sprites.

Anyone know if they keep the volumetric smoke effects or not? DX10 mode looked really nice with the non-clipping smoke and fog effects.

Do these de-masters supercede the original game on Steam? That is, will I have the option to download the original versions, or will I forever be forced to use the new versions?

To his defense, in a game that has you placed in underwater surroundings for the entire, it's kind of a noticeable downgrade. You may think it's trivial, but I find it sad that the cutting edge consoles of today can't maintain a locked 60 frames per second on a game that was released 10 years ago without having to remove and cut back various graphical effects (and even then it doesn't)

A full page debating water....sad.

Im finishing up the Farmers Market section and have a lot of little takeaways that I might list when I cleared the game.

I have one BIG takeaway though. 10 years ago the Big Daddys were very intimidating. I would plan all these elaborate ways to catch and kill them. Now, I dont know its 10 more years of just playing games but they are so easy. By the second one I realized I could just stand in front of them, dodge 3 rivets, catch a grenade and throw it back. Maybe people knew how soft they were back in the day but I wasnt really online seeing what the word was (wish i could go back to those days!)

You don't need to be empathetic towards me.

Well there goes me purchasing this collection.

Sick of these incompetent developers not enabling AF. Are they fucking blind?

It's probably more due to the fact that those effects were customized into older unsupported game engines and were ported into newer ones that don't natively support them, tripling the work it would take to create these ports for minuscule payoff.

I've put about 3 hours into each title, they all look great. Indisputably superior to the last gen ports.

It's loathsome the way people discuss the quality of a remaster of a game everyone has already played and likely owns multiple copies of, that exists solely for its graphical enhancements.

PS4 must have some problem with AF..hardly any games have any.

Yeah it seems like this has been a constant issue on PS4 this gen. I wonder why it happens so frequently.
