Digital Homicide games removed on Steam due to "being hostile to Steam customers"

Honestly, I'm just sad that it took this long and this dramatic a turn to get these games off steam.

They, and the seemingly thousands like them, should never have been allowed on the store in the first place.

Still, good riddance to some absolute shitbags. Hope this hits them in the pocket hard.

Just checked their game group on Steam and there's some pretty harsh comments there. Considering how personal they seemed to take Sterling's videoes, they must be hurting something fierce now. I get that they brought it on themselves and likely made every mistake possible, but it's still other people we're talking about.

How have they even managed to exist all of this time? Their releases are trash, poorly reviewed, and the entire lot sells for a buck or two.

Have you missed the parts where they threatened Jim Sterling and his family, showed pictures of his house on their site, doxed him and so on?

They deserve zero sympathy.

Because they were pretty much asset flips, and unfortunately a lot of other developers do the same sort of practice.

The amazing thing is they got pissy about Jim playing and complaining about their games, Jim plays other bad games, then they get pissy with Jim because some of those games were actually secretly posted by them under a different name.

What the hell?! These guys just don't deserve to lose sales, they deserve to be put in jail. Arrogant fucks...

Not sure if defense force or you have no idea what these two do.

I imagine Cosmic read the post as implying what had actually happened was "schadenfreude" which of course it isn't, what happened is some well deserved comeuppance.

Of course we are all basking in a frothing soapy hot-tub of schadenfreude, but it doesn't describe what DH did to themselves.

Or not, just jumping in in the giddy fun of it all. Fresh bottle of malicious joy anyone?

Digital Uppance has come... icide!

Schadenfreude means feeling joy at somebody's misfortune, so it perfectly describes what it is happening in this thread. Something bad happening to someone is not schadenfreude, nor is it somebody getting their comeuppance, but how you fell about it can be schadenfreude.

Now to see if they're willing to cut their losses and stop the outrageous lawsuit.

I rather thought thats what I said, schadenfreude describes what we feel and not what has happened.

We bask in the feeling of schadenfreude, while one could accurately describe that the mechanism which allowed us such malicious joy is DH getting their comeuppance (just deserts, due reward, just punishment).

When I said "or not" i meant I didnt wish to speak for another gaffer, apologies if it's not clear. :)

I don't understand why is everyone so happy

Would it make you happy to know that because you posted in this thread now they might file a frivolous lawsuit against you?

How would you feel if they did that, dragged to you a court halfway across the country, then they were brutally murdered. Would you feel elated & relieved?

Do you experience emotions at all.

These people weren't just exploitative, evil shitbags, they were a THREAT.

Anyone who predicted this and hit the jackpot with collectible removed Steam games?

I thought about it for a second, maybe two. But then I realized that would mean giving these people money.

I don't understand why is everyone so happy

I am a part-time indie developer myself, so I know that this market is tough. It's not enough to deliver a quality game any more. You also need a passion for gaming that comes across in your product, positive word of mouth, a good relationship with your audience and other devs, and to offer compelling value for the asking price.

Not only did these folks lack ALL of these things (quality, passion, relationships, value), it is clear that they did not even try for any of them. They followed the "releases = money" philosophy that you never see from good developers. The quality of their output was similar to the few XBLIG developers that just modified the starter kits and released them as new games (except with added bugs). They responded to criticism not by trying to improve their products, but with deletions, harassment, and lawsuits.

We are happy because people like this should not be in game development. They should be seeking mental help (and I hope they do...not joking or sarcasm).

You really want to see the look on his face when he realizes he took it one step too far.

This is the root of his/their problem. That realization has yet to happen.

I hope he/they can get the help they need.

Reminds me of that Eddie Murphy bit, "You dropped your ice cream..."

I get that, but sympathy is not only given when it's deserved. I don't dispute that they brought it on themselves or in any way sympathize with the way they've behaved in this case, but considering how hurt they were about Sterling's original videos and how irrationally they lashed out, you've got to wonder what something like this will do to a person who already gets unproportionally upset about bad critique. I hope they get some help and find a way out of this mess that leads to self-reflection without being scarred for life.

Not sure if defense force or you have no idea what these two do.

The only defense force I'm a part of is the one defending earth against ants and spiders. Regardless, I still feel those comments were out of line.

Pretty sure there will be a lawsuit against Valve coming out of this. These guys will end up spending their remaining life savings on the cardboard box they'll be living in when all this is done.

Who else can't wait until Jim's video on Monday?

I hate to say it, but this whole mess was and will probably continue to be incredibly entertaining.

Because let's be honest, DH isn't stopping with this. At least until Valve sues/counter-sues the 'company', if possible. Imagine how that would play out.

I am sure of this as well. There is no limit for these guys and they honestly think they should be proud of themselves for pushing garbage on the storefront. There is the fact that they might just end up trying to dox these people considering past history as well.

Jim cannot talk about it yet. His lawsuit is still on-going. It seems like the judge is just annoyed at the moment however.

He will still find a way to sneak it in there while toeing the line.

Guessing they're in a third world country with a favorable exchange rate. A couple hundred a month USD/Euro/Pounds goes a long way.

There's trophy hunter buissinesses that will platinum/top gamer score games for you that run in similar models of living somewhere dirt cheap.
