What a beauty <3

Nice! I found a black copy for sale in Seattle last weekend so I picked it up but wasn't able to cancel the orange copy in time that I had ordered off Wilco's store, so now I'll have two. But that pink sure looks nice! It's a really good album!

Well I'd say make a friend happy with the black copy and keep the orange one. Unless you're not into colored vinyls of course :p

The art on the back is pretty cool too by the way.

Twin Peaks is finally in my hands. It sounds incredible!

Also ordered Machinedrums new album and Zombys Where Were U in 92 today.

Here's my latest purchases that I've bought in the last couple of weeks.

From left to right, starting from the top:

Porcupine Tree - On The Sunday Of Life
Managed to get an orange copy by surprise. Last one in the store and there's nothing indicating the color of the album on the sleeve. Surprisingly good! I never got this album even during my biggest PT fan phase 10 years ago due to people being very dismissive of it, but maybe I shouldn't have listened since those same people dismissed other early albums as well and I love those.

Stargazer's Assistant - Remoteness Of Light
I've made a silly habit of getting every single House of Mythology release. I guess this is world music with ambient touches. Lot's of traditional folk music influences and psychedelia. Every song on this 4 song double album is almost 20 minutes long, but I found time just flying by. This is the white vinyl version, which is limited to 100 copies. There's also a turquoise edition, which is limited to 200 copies.

Hypnopazûzu - Create Christ, Sailor Boy
The other House of Mythology release this fall. Haven't had much time to spend with the album yet, but for those who don't know, this is a duo formed by Current 93's David Tibet and Killing Joke's Youth. The musical style follows closely to Tibet's former output, but minimalism gives space to orchestrated pieces that give more oomph to Tibet's lyrical output. There's two cover variants for this album and even more color variants. This is the sold out magenta edition with Tibet's artwork, with the other artwork being designed by Youth.

Fields of Nephilim - The Nephilim
I have a thing for gothic rock, especially The Sisters of Mercy. Fields of Nephilim's Nephilim is definitely something to look into if you're into TSOM, while also being maybe a bit too similar in style. Anyway, this is a fantastic goth rock album, which rivals Sisters of Mercy's first two masterpiece albums.

Porcupine Tree - Up the Downstair
PT's second album has always felt a bit weak compared to the rest of Wilson's output, but it still manages to have many fantastic moments. Listened to it a bit yesterday for the first time in years and it's better than I remembered. Really have to spend more time with it.

Porcupine Tree - Fear of a Blank Planet
I thought I had burned myself up with PT after this album was originally released. I loved it so much back in 07 and have great memories of PT's first gig in Finland the same year. It took my renewed love for the band's other albums for me to consider getting the album and pulled the plug when I saw someone selling a mint (sealed) copy for 30€ online. To my surprise this is the first pressing with printed sleeves, whereas according to my knowledge the 2015 repress only has plain black sleeves. Really happy that the fantastic Nil Recurring ep is included.

I think I'll sit this one out and wait for the box that contains both volumes. As apparently they're still discussing the details for that.

This is probably asked to death in this thread, but I didn't see anything in the OP about it - where do yall get your crates/whatever you use to store your records? I'm looking for something cheap. Should I just hit up friends who work in the service industry and see if they can bring me home a crate or two? Is there a cheap way to buy crates (of any type) online?

I use these. I get 'em local.

So the only full-length Porcupine Tree album I'm missing from my vinyl collection is Deadwing. Apparently the publishing rights are in a limbo, with UMG being the party with no interest. I wonder how different the deal for Deadwing was compared to In Absentia since they both were published by Lava and the latter got a vinyl release via Tonefloat not too long ago (which is the version I got).

I've reached a point where I need a full-wall vinyl shelf (or two!). I have been using the smaller Ikea Kallax shelves, but I don't have enough "squares" for all my vinyls.

What can people recommend? I was thinking of simply splurging out for the bigger Kallax shelf, but I am afraid it won't cope with the weight of so many vinyls. Does anyone here have any other suggestions? If it matters, I live in Sweden so anything that can be bought in local Swedish shops is a plus. Thanks in advance!

Anyone? Would be great to get some input :)

Have you thought about building a unit? You can find a carpenter/furniture maker or contractor to commision it if you do not have the skills or tools to do it yourself.

Didn't consider that at all actually. I don't have the skills nor the time really to sort it out myself, and my fear when it comes to contractors is that the price will inflate quickly if you are unlucky enough to get a scalper. But putting out an RFP is not out of the question, thanks for the idea.

My suggestion is always Lundia

- Relatively cheap
- Super durable
- Can easily take the weight of x amounts of LP's
- Endlessly extendable
- (should be) available in Sweden
- Available in many finishes, from black to plain wood to anything. Want your own color? Just paint them!

Despite ordering from Mondo on release day and it arriving here in the UK about a week later, I've only just managed to crack open my Twin Peaks vinyl...

...and it sounds terrible for a new record, pops and clicks all over the place. Especially gutting as I've been waiting since the day the announced it.

Anyone else having trouble with their copy?

Further research tells me it was pressed by Rainbo, who are apparently also responsible for my crap sounding Radiohead Moon Shaped Pool as well.

I wonder If I can do an exchange somehow without mailing it back to America?

And some of the percussion, hi-hats etc... sounds like it was pressed from a 128kbps mp3.

Thanks a lot for the suggestion, but my Google skills didn't help me find a store selling these in Sweden :/ Might just have to stick with a reinforced Kallax.

This is exactly how I feel about my copy. Apparently we're in the minority. I would hit up Mondo and see what they can do for you. They hooked me up with another copy, but from the new batch, due next month. Hopefully it turns out better because... I've tried... and my copy is practically un-listenable. I've listened to a bunch of other new and old records since that one, and yeah... it's the record, not my equipment.

Mine is also warped. I've had a browse on Discogs, Facebook and Reddit, we're not alone with this - some people have labels that look like they were slapped on by a three year old.

Hopefully they can sort me out too - although that's the last time I over-excitedly order from the States (it's freely available throughout the UK now).

I should also do the ol' equipment disclaimer - I'm using a Project Debut II with an Ortofon 10 sylus that I upgraded a few months back. Yesterday I played another brand new album and it sounded fantastic, so definitely an issue on the record side.

Thanks for your response, hope you have better luck with your next copy.

Only $5? Are they unaware of the prices vinyl collectors will pay for these things?

They were probably pressed in the same place as our copies of Twin Peaks.

Preordered the clear w/ black smoke variant of the Stranger Things vol 1 vinyl yesterday .

Where did you find that variant? In the UK Invada is releasing it and there are two options - half blue/half red vinyl or a blue splatter online exclusive version.

They're also putting out a really smart looking version of Drive that I may have to pick up, despite thinking the film was a bit bollocks.

It's insanity, and that's why I bought it the second I saw it. That and I love the music (except for one song) on it. If you read the FAQ they said that Shipping and Handling is included with price, and shipping for mine was free, so they pretty much are giving it away for free, but you pay for shipping.

Which makes sense, as they were hiding copies in major cities for people to find and keep for free for a few weeks before putting it up for sale.

Plus if the quality was garbage, hey, $5. Plus each copy is a different color so it'll look pretty

I preordered mine from Bullmoose.com but they sold out that first day they went up. Not sure if any other retailers are going to have more of that variant but I could be wrong.

There's a bunch of variants though.

Finally setup everything at my new place. Wire management still not ideal, but its not too bad.

The Nornas is beautiful and cheap but it does need heavy reinforcement if you're gonna use it as a vinyl shelf.

Something custom for the turntable

Lovely stuff. Did you make the tt table yourself?

I'm hoping to finally buy a place before the end of the year so i'm making a mental note of all these great looking setups.

These are the options in the UK:

I've been eyeballing the Mr Robot soundtrack, but i'd rather pick up one volume than fork out £50 for both.

Has anyone picked them up and can they advise if one is stronger than the other?

According to an e-mail blast Vinyl Me Please just sent out, the next VMP record will be Beck's Odelay... you know, that album that just got a different coloured repressing last month. It's not like there's other Beck albums that could have used the reissue...

I wish, I have a great interest in woodworking but I don't have the time. I've custom ordered through a builder on Etsy. Actually if you're in the UK, there's a dude who makes these consoles, in fact I took his designs and commissioned it through a local builder, well the designs are mid century modern so its not really stealing anyone's idea.

Is the Vol 1 and 2 box set of Stranger Things a definite release? Or was that hearsay somewhere in the past? I want to wait for the full set if so, but don't want to miss out on getting one of the many options of Vol 1 either if it's a theoretical thing.

I think Invada said there will be more details regarding the box closer to the release date of volume 2.

I thought this was a pretty cool Kickstarter. I have long been an astronomy and Sagan fan and once I got into vinyl I became obsessed with the Voyager record so I backed it without hesitation.
In 1977, NASA launched two spacecraft, Voyager I and II, on a grand tour of the solar system and beyond, into the mysteries of interstellar space. Mounted to each of these spacecraft is a stunning golden phonograph record, an interstellar message to introduce our civilization to extraterrestrials who might encounter the probes, perhaps billions of years from now. The Voyager Golden Record contains the story of Earth expressed in sounds, images, and science: Earth's greatest music from myriad cultures and eras, from Bach and Beethoven to Blind Willie Johnson and Chuck Berry, Senegalese percussion to Solomon Island panpipes. Dozens of natural sounds of our planet -- birds, a train, a baby's cry -- are collaged into a lovely sound poem. There are spoken greetings in 55 human languages, and one whale language, and more than one hundred images encoded in analog that depict who, and what, we are.

Here is the NYT article that hipped me to it. Funny how even Sagan couldn't get a copy of the original. We need Nic Cage to steal if from Jimmy Carter I guess.

Not sure if there are any other Autechre nerds here, but they're re-releasing their first three full-length albums on vinyl. $23.99 each.

The first two are among my favorite albums of all time.

https://bleep.com/release/20360-autechre-incunabula
https://bleep.com/release/20366-autechre-amber
https://bleep.com/release/20864-autechre-tri-repetae

There's a Autechre thread somewhere, but definitely getting Tri Repetae.
