Forza Horizon 3 PC Performance Thread

It seems seems to work or am I missing something? I can use DSR in Forza 6: Apex. The only downside is that when I go into a DSR resolution G-Sync stops working.

That's not DSR, that's the game rendering in a higher res with DWM downscaling it to your "window" size (borderless in case of fullscreen UWP). DWM scaling is pretty bad, it can and does result in more aliasing than it solves.

This also rises a concern on how exactly UWP games know which resolutions they can run in as so far from my experience they just have some "pre-set" resolutions a user can choose from instead of asking the GPU driver about what resolutions the system actually support. If this is true then we may see those UWP games unable to run in resolutions above the highest one in the "preset" list (which is usually 4K at the moment). This means that UWP games are less forward compatible than even DX7 Win32 games which would be just hilarious.

I would say its definitely better. It was annoying in the Xbox version but I just completed the intro in the forest and the pop in seemed far better.

Good news. I'll try this out on my PC as well then if I can ever bring myself to get Windows 10 on my gaming PC.

Downsampling always helps alleviate IQ issues.

Oh I know that, I'm a serial downsampler. I should have just said "does it work?" because I remember there previously being issues with downsampling on UWP games.

Ah right, good to know. I've never really used it, just had the game default to my highest resolution (5k) and assumed - but went back to 1440p.

Have it set to the high preset with my 970 + 2500k combo and it's mostly 60ish. Just started at Surfers Paradise and the performance is worse here though.

I haven't played online since Forza 3 (yeah, it's been a while), but I'm definitely jumping in for this one, I had an idea for events we could do as a club, maybe people won't agree but I think it could make things interesting.

How about 15 mins before a race we get a random PI target, and everyone has 15 minutes to build a car? Make it a reaaally random number, like 631, so no one can show up in a pre-fabricated "perfect" car for the PI. Should make things interesting I think.

Edit: Fuuuuu wrong thread...

It would actually be interesting to check if the game have the same highest resolution for all players. That would mean that it doesn't poll the driver on which resolutions are possible and just have a built-in fixed list of resolutions. Which is pretty bad in PC space.

Anyone else suffering from crashes? Installed the latest Nvidia drivers and whenever I click Continue it crashes instantly or almost instantly.

I have redownloaded the game as well, and changed some settings, but no luck :(
Bought the Ultimate Edition for nothing I guess :/

Any word on the difference between 8 and 12Gb of RAM? What kind of impact in performance does it have?

Run Windows Update. Restart computer. Try running again.

i want pictures of HDR comparison cause this HDR thing is just getting ridiculous. cant have a thread without anyone asking about it and being a game killer if its not in there

Getting a bit afraid of the performance of the 2500k with this game. I'm hoping to play at 1080p at Ultra or as close to Ultra at 60 FPS.

I got a 2500k @4.2GHz. 8GB RAM and a 970.

Judging by early reports it sounds like it's not gonna be possible?

Its the new marketing buzzword but you can't compare it without a HDR screen as it would have no effect.

No point in looking up or posting comparison pictures or asking for screenshots since you can't see the "effect" on SDR screens. All you will see this way is more or even over saturated colors which isn't representative at all.

Seems like I'm CPU limited in downtown Surfers Paradise.

5820K@4.4Ghz

Drops to 50FPS in both 4K and 720p, Ultra settings. Dynamic Optimization does not help. Looking at the performance monitor, Core 1 is at 100%. DX12 multicore scaling doing work :/ Hoping for a fix for that.

Ok. Im having problems. GTX1070 with latest drivers from yesterday. Doesn't matter whether I play with dynamic settings or on low or Ultra I'm getting framedrops from 80s to 30s even 20s within mere seconds. Could it be a streaming issue? Haven't installed it on my SSD. CPU is an i7 4790k and I have 16 GB of RAM. Also locking it to 36 fps doesn't feel as smooth as the 30 FPS on Xbox One.

Same CPU, just with an 1080, 1440p dynamic gives me 60-80 fps in non-city sections. Did you restart you PC after installing the new driver?

Also the framedrops in the city are REAL. I'm getting outta there asap.

Yeah. Installed it yesterday and restarted multiple times in the meantime. What's your dynamic preset? Have you installed it on your SSD?

Yeah, I was having similar issues too. I wasn't even the city when this was happening. This was out in the desert.

Performance numbers before and after the nvidia drivers?

I'm not a fan of installing them day 1 after all the recent shit they've been doing.

1440p, Ultra preset, vsync on, 60fps target, game runs on HDD. Other than ~45 fps drops in the city, pretty much locked 60fps 99% of the time.

Not for me, the image is very clean for me.

Apparently this screen has 8XMSAA, something seems very wrong.

So, one of the 12 threads is hitting 100% usage? Have you tried disabling hyper threading to see what happens? I'm on a TV, so it's 60fps locked or nothing for me. I own the same CPU btw, OCed to 4.5Ghz. :)

Alright a 1080p non-downsampling shot, still Ultra preset, the jaggies are a lot more noticable but still far from the above jaggy nightmare, just look at the wires in the distance, this is pretty much identical to Xbox One IQ.

Yeah that looks still better than what I see. Someone mentioned you can choose higher resolutions than the native one from your monitor. This isn't the case for me. Or is this any other option?

Seems FXAA fixes some of the issues but 8x MSAA should look way cleaner than the pic I posted.

Maldo also posted this on the first page
No. MSAA is not working well in that screenshot. Look at those powerlines, the antialiasing is fighting with some kind of uneven nearest neighbour scaling. Same for car details, road border, etc.

You need to enable DSR in Nvidia control panel, check Manage 3D Settings - DSR factor.

Horrible news if true.

Framerate is the exact same on Ultra and Medium for me for some reason. Can't get a locked 60 to save my life

Same shit as Forza 6 Apex. Not using 100% of my GPU.
