Palmer Luckey issue statement on actions on Nimble America

A sampling from the community Palmer Luckey posted to and solicited funds from:

This is unfortunately not even close to the worst of it.

I contributed $10,000 to Nimble America because I thought the organization had fresh ideas on how to communicate with young voters through the use of several billboards. I am a libertarian who has publicly supported Ron Paul and Gary Johnson in the past, and I plan on voting for Gary in this election as well.

Stop lying Palmer:

(Both images sourced from Nimble America's site.)

"Can't stump the Trump" is a slogan used by Trump supporters, and the number of days since Clinton last gave a press conference is a constant Trump refrain meant to show that she's low-energy compared to him. Gary Johnson never gives press conferences, so let's not pretend that the billboard can be interpreted as merely anti-Hillary, and not pro-Trump.

Nimble America isn't libertarian, or for Gary Johnson. They're for Trump. Why did you donate $10,000 in support of Trump if you're planning on voting for Gary Johnson? Lord knows Johnson's campaign needs the money more than Trump does.

No kidding. Yikes.

Yea no kidding. Sorry. The only news I really follow is public broadcasting and the occasional piece of investigative journalism.

If it looks and smells like shit, its probably shit. Cmon son.
Clearly other media outlets find them reliable. The story has spread to other sites pretty quickly.

Neither of these things is convincing to me... I am surprised they convince you.

Most of the people in this thread don't believe that media outlets are all generally corrupt and that TDB is out to ruin the poor fledgling billionaires life and suiff out the dream of VR.

Most sites are just reporting on a racist redditor with a lot of money that got caught with his ass out.

I'm not sure, it reads very lawyer like. Like, how the statement clearly seperates his actions from Facebook.

Well, it's very diplomatic in tone, but it fails to clearly address much of anything. And while not being specific can sometimes be a good thing, I don't think it's a very good strategy to sort of vaguely hint at the idea that a legitimate news organization is fabricating a story. You either have to own up completely to what you're being accused of and show legitimate remorse, or you have to be defiant and clearly say which accusations are false.

From those emails it looks like Daily Beast got a tip that Luckey was involved with this and asked if people were impersonating him on the internet. In a fit of honesty, Luckey decided to tell the truth.

That's what's crazy. It's like... Dude you wrote this under a pseudonym for a reason. And you just up and tell a reporter?

It speaks volumes to the bubble of ignorance he lives in. (Along with so many other things so far).

Man.

Palmer's got "fuck you" money, so I doubt he really cares that much. He can afford to kill a career.

Its just... disappointing to see one of the faces of the most exciting innovation in gaming in years put himself in this position.

I don't think he needed to apologize for what he did (regardless of how reprehensible those beliefs are.) but now he has seemingly straight up lied publicly in provably false ways, which is just ridiculous.

I'm sure this is part of the fun for him, but its frustrating seeing someone with so much wealth and influence use it for stuff like this.

For you.
Really doing what? Not trusting news agencies? Yes.

If Fox news made this story would you believe it so fast? I don't know daily beast from fox news.

I agree. He's probably guilty. But still, why post those screenshots like that? I mean come on... why do they have to leave room for him to wiggle out of it?
Yes, a reputable news source is totally going to commit libel against a millionaire, because that would surely end well and be a rational approach. Totally.
