Barely any enemy telegraphing, big flashing square button in the middle, high animation priority... yeah, great combat design here.

Dude, I don't see anything wrong with those gifs. She failed at pressing the Defend button in time so she got recked... yeah, maybe the delay time was really short, but maybe against those enemies, you need to think quick....

Look, in your last gif, I can see very clearly the crab behind Noctis rising up his claws before attacking. If I don't call that telegraphing, I don't know what it is...

Oh My God A game world with large scale has bugs, quickly delay the game. Gaf needs to relax a little when it concerns this game.

The only thing major is the crashes need to be fixed and the game a little more polished. Bugs will always be a part of this game at launch, you can't help it.

I kind of hope stuff like double noctis happens when I play the game. I like funny glitches like that. The crashing needs to get fixed though. Also, not seeing any issue with the combat here, people be crazy.

Different enemy designs, some have quicker attack animations, others slower and easier to predict. You can also turn off the flashing prompt and block/parry without it, it's not a QTE. I hated Platinum mainly due to button input response but the impressions from the newest build alleviate those concerns.

Uhh...

1. The enemy came from behind Noctis. I don't care what action game you're playing, you can get surprised from behind.

2. The crab flashes so there is some telegraphing. She just wasn't quick or familiar with the combat enough to dodge.

3. You mean small flashing square button? It's not big at all.

4. People have said the combat has been good lately so I'm not too worried about the animations at this point.

Boy I can't wait for this game to come out if only for all the shit posting by people who haven't played it can stop. And also so all the "BAD IQ/AA/DRAWDISTANCE/WHATEVERTHEFUCK" can stop. Every FFXV thread devolves into this.

Well once it comes out it'll be filled with more PC Port Begging to be honest.

I'm interested to see if the Fishing will keep my attention in this. Never enjoyed it in other games.

Tabata's design philosophy is terrible. He doesn't care if enemies telegraph attacks or not, just that they look real. Doesn't mean all enemies will be bad, but yeah, good luck.

The idea is to create an array of enemies that feel real (and deadly) in the world.

Enemy attack patterns were also impacted by this thought process. In other action-driven games, a monster might tele-graph its next move clearly – like keeping a paw raised for a second before striking, or sweeping in an easily dodged arc. The Behemoth juts its claws out quickly and ferociously like a predator, making its attacks difficult to avoid.

“Some people said, ‘If we do it that way, then it won’t really be much of a game,’” Hasegawa says. “But then Tabata-san said, ‘Disregard that. Create a living creature.’ So we’ve spent evenings watching videos and studying them.”

I'm breaking my pact I miss talking about this game lol. So I'll bite

I feel you fishing always bores me to death in games which is weird because I love it in real life. Only problem is I'm sure fishing plays a big part in the things Iggy can cook and cooking gives you bonuses for combat so I can't ignore that.

That looked so boring. And before anyone says anything blaming the player look at kingdom hearts stream before it. Fun, flashy, and exciting.

I liked the idea of random camp events and banter, as well as radio broadcasts, adds a lot to the world building

The game looked great in motion for an open-world PS4 games, probably cause the stream quality and time of day was great too. Don't think it'll look like the recent TGS trailer, but I definitely don't have complaints. This with a smooth framerate is good.

Sad the demo crashed near the end, I don't want to downplay this too much, but it's not that uncommon so close to release and when doing an unscripted demo, Hollie who was playing even mentioned there's been a recent change to fishing, so that's maybe why it crashed. Given the time limit of the demo on the booth, it's also not expected that people get as far as the fishing parts of the game either.

Personally I found the KH demo to be too samey, and the animations and control of the character look like a generation or two behind Final Fantasy XV.

Listening to Balamb Garden music in the car was great. Travelling around in the car and just enjoying the vistas will feel nice.

Makes you wonder what the limits are to what Noctis can conjure up.

please don't say a past king used a fishing rod as a weapon

wait it's a jrpg, carry on

Hey you can do cool shit with a fishing rod, maybe the past king was Gon.

Wish he didn't give it up after Heavens Arena.

Enemies that don't casually telegraph their attack for a whole second and wait for you to predict what's about to happen isn't even common in a more hardcore action game with a great combat system. Ninja Gaiden and NG2 basically requires you to constantly block, move, and jump around because the enemy attacks are too quick for you to just sit around and try to see what they're going to do next. It's not a bad design simply because your preference lies elsewhere.

I watched the other day this awesome video about Fumito Ueda design philosophy, which is called design by subtraction.

Basically strip all the things that don't support the core idea of your game.

And watching some footage of the game I feel it could use some of that philosophy. There's a lot of fluffy useless stuff in the game.

Falk

that puzzling face
There's a decent amount of telegraphing even in Duscae though. You could kinda predict when the parry counters would come up VERY easily for the magitek troops, and with a little attention even sabertusks lining up for a jump.

Behemoth on the other hand was like a split second followed by a split second parry window. I think it highly depends from enemy to enemy.

edit: Also outside of parries, the Garula's side-ram thing is relatively easy to dodge if you know what to look for.

European WRPG feel tho

Weird thing to note, but you probably wouldn't want to. With Stamina/running, if you let go of circle and then press again right as the stamina bar is about to fully deplete, Noct will flash green and the entire bar will refill, which means with delicate timing/paying attention you can essentially sprint forever, which feels pretty vital when traversing parts of the world when there's no Chocobos nearby, given you can't take the car off-road. (Unless this has been changed since last month). This means it's ideal to have the bar present so you can watch it, as there's no other visual indication of when the insta-refill is briefly available.

....why not just let the player sprint without a stamina bar/refill mechanic? Seems like it'd be a lot better/easier and not so annoying to have to watch a bar and constantly tap when it gets close.

Just seems like an "annoying" mechanic that serves to annoy the player more then anything that actually adds fun to the game.
