How big is DR in the West? Big enough where it makes a significant chunk of the sales and would be localized fast after JP release?

Not really a matter of how big the series is, as much as it is a matter of how big the company that will localize the game is. It will probably be NISA or maybe Spike Chunsoft themselves, in which case they are pretty small so don't expect a very quick turnaround.

Behind Disgaea and maybe Witch and the Hundred Knight, Danganronpa is probably NISA's best selling series now. Even if it's not them, whoever does it will definitely get a some good money from this.
The real question is how long it takes to work out the deal/secure the rights for the game, record everything for the dub, localize all the text (obviously VNs take more time than other games), size of the publisher handling it, getting it rated by various boards in different countries, etc.
I'm not an insider, so I can't say whether or not it's worth the risk to rush/expedite a text heavy game, but they usually split up their translators, and I'm not sure that speeding up the release boosts the game sales significantly vs. taking their time or waiting for summer or the holidays.
If a Shounen work can get away with a criminal school with an Ultimate rapist (Criminale!), I'm sure they could make it work somehow.

Do not get your hopes up. I'm going to expect 2018 release for NA. If we take Ultra Despair as an example, it took 1 whole year to localize.
1 + 2 sold 200k+ in the West on Vita, and another 100k on Steam. That's pretty huge for a visual novel.

Maybe, but in that case you'd probably have the ultimate murderer and rapist off each other in the first case to get rid of the easy suspect (and avoid a toko repeat, kinda) and the probably most ...controversial gone to start. That said, UDG gives me no confidence in them being able to handle rape in any sort of way that I would want them to.

Scans aren't allowed so I can't link the source of the translations and I would feel scummy just copying and pasting the translator's work without sourcing so I'll bulletpoint it.

- Monokumars, five new bear robots calling themselves Monokumas children
- Akamatsu Kaede voice: Kanda Sayaka A cheerful, positive girl. As a bossy type with a firm character, she herself takes the lead and pulls the other students along. She has a strong will and doesnt hesitate to take action. Furthermore, as is custom for the series, the students of the prison school for the gifted have Super High School Level Talents, but information about the individual talents is still currently a mystery.
- This game adds a new mechanic in addition to finding the contradictions in the murderers statements and seeking the truth. That is dare to lie and the trial will go in your favor. Meanwhile, there are other new mechanics like the Scrum Argument where the trial participants are separated into two teams to argue their opinions, so the school trials can be a white hot experience.

I hope they cool it with the music reuse. There are some signature tracks that need to stay, but we really need mostly all new music. And not even remixes, I want completely new tracks.

Really interesting. So MC is a Pianist and the girl they were pushing is a simple "Childcare Worker". We also get another Ultimate Detective and of course a ???. So I wonder which of these four will be really important for the story and which one(s) is/are just decoy(s).
Also the little piece of shit is a tennis player? How does this even work?

I'm kinda baffled by how much people seem to like the MCs design, it's pretty weak IMO. Like Hajime she comes off as too plain and generic.
I bet her talent allows her to mind control people with her music or something like that.

The Ultimate ??? was super important in both DR1 and 2, so I'm thinking they'll probably kill this guy off early since you'd be expecting him to stick around.

The girl with the dark skin is called Anthy? Danganronpa sure loves its Utena references.
I got 2 out of 4, that's cool I guess.
Some characters in 2 mirrored characters in 1 (Aoi/Akane, Soda/Leon, Hifumi/Teruteru, Kyoko/Chaiki) but there isn't seem to be anyone in 3 that mirrors past characters. Except for Hifumi-Teruteru-Ultimate Tennis Player.

The new Ultimate Detective's name can be read as Shuichi Saihara, setting up another parallel with Kyoko due to the alliterations.

I like Astronaut and ??? because they're cute, but refuse to trust or get attached to them for precisely that reason. Pianist is the best, though.
