Because all they had to do to be able to use Death was equip the Ring of the Lucii.
You have a point though with there being a whole section, I wonder if there are other powerful rings that we could use?
It kind of makes sense that Lucis' ring can only cast death, with Insomnia being reaper-themed and all, so I wonder if other kingdoms have other rings with powers similarly tied to their general theme...

I don't know about multiple rings, but even with only one, it makes sense with this game's combat system that all they had to do was equip the ring in order to use Death.

With the ring equipped, O could be Death, Square could be that barrier thing Regis uses in Kingsglaive, and Triangle would be some other kind of magic.

LODs and grass looks so much better now on Xbone. Much less shadow and grass pop-in too.

Still very pleased they added back in those specular shaders for grass.

Do we know if the entire video we've seen today was in this region? I'm not sure if we knew the name already, but seems like Lestallum is in Cleigne if this is proven true.

For how the Ascension grid looked before (half empty for every character) i suspected it would have expanded when you obtained the Lucii Ring, granting access to Royal Magic for Noctis and Kingsglaive abilities for the party.
Now that they changed it, i don't know anymore.
But yeah, no way Death is the only Royal Magic.

Famitsu hinted there was more ring magic, Death was just one example. Also, so much for that 4chan leaker being right on everything.

Anything to confirm that the footage was actually from an X1 and not a pc using an xbox controller?

Nothing but "SE has been honest and they never tried to hide how bad Xone version looked" and "PC version would look better (One of the video they showed today is from PC build, and it looks better than the Xone videos.)".

https://forum.finalfantasyxv.com/discussion/2744/final-fantasy-xv-ring-magic-footage/p2

Shuya: "Just in case that some of you missed the information from last week, other ring magics have been confirmed other than Death. There will also be a handful of ring magic that are unique to FFXV, while also including some classic spells like Death."
Hell yeah. FF hasn't been introducing new stuff for a long time. Some new spells would be nice.

It's more in line with the darker tone/original vision of versus13 imo.

I love it.

I think ring magic works just like how you craft magic in ffxv. Where you can only choose one slot for that kind of magic.

So I'm guessing that's how the person playing could just choose ring magic without other choices because death is tied to it like a slot.

Which I think is pretty cool in terms of balancing it. I kinda want the ring magic to affect our health a lot more than mp, that way we use it only when we need to kind of thing.

the contrast between the spell and the environment makes it feel even darker than that. it makes noctis seem evil. edit: it almost makes him look like a daemon himself.

Well...it's death. Lol

So I'm finally watching the stream. Geez, that beginning is cringe.

Wasn't Insomnia supposed to represent death at one point, but Tabata cut it out because some countries got offended

If XV still had the Versus vibe and had full reaper worship and everything I'd want even more Death spells lol.

I think the story will take a dark turn somewhere. They've just been focusing on the happy road trip theme.

I don't think they cut it out, but they possibly toned it down.

I see.

Is this still based on the expectation that insane plot twists will happen?

I think the time skip basically signals that some things will have to happen by default to take them from young adult hood to early to mid 30s, but now that we already know that we will be having a timeskip, that plot point isn't going to be so shocking.

While i obviously think serious stuff will happen, i doubt it will be anywhere near as dark as it could have been given the source material. I mean they still have you fighting robot soldiers perpetually after all, i don't think they will be skewing things that far.

Square is putting in WORK. The game looks fantastic even on Xbox! Fkn hyped. The gameplay looks fantastic and fast paced as well.

Death looks boss as fuck. Wish I was able to wait till the game came out to see it but not self control.

Good. I hope that plays a part in the game.

And Uncharted has you fighting hundreds of human beings. Red Dead deals with actual mature subject matter but has you kill hundreds of humans as well. How does this play into if it's "dark" or not? Especially when we all know these guys would be fodder enemies no matter what?

Eh? I'm just saying its not gonna be a slaughter house. This game is rated T for Teen, so they have to have limitations somewhere, they arent gonna go Type 0 on us in regards to some twist where things go really sour out of nowhere

They can if the ESRB stuff is anything to go by. I'm just saying robot enemies is a weird thing to make a point on if a game is dark or not. We've seen this stuff not matter at all.

Do you guys think the bottom map will be all the open world of XV?

Maybe the other areas you only get to visit them as hubs accessed via a 'cutscene' driven travel sequence (Altissia will probably fit this description).

That is definitely what I believe.

Robot enemies says they are not going to go too deep with the mass slaughter of humans, or atleast not focus on that, so i don't see a big body count happening in this game. I think they may have also resolved that for the previous movie as well because that was where the shit was supposed to really hit the fan, that big war time invasion.

I think that whole map will be open world and explorable. Its such a huge map...i doubt they would have it all on there if it wasn't going to be explored. Why think its just going to be a super small bitty piece on the bottom? This is an ambitious game they are going for

I'm honestly not sure at this point. I think one we leave the Duscae/Cleigne area for plot reasons we probably won't be able to go back for a good while. Maybe at the end of the game things will completely open up which is what the airship is for.
