I am so out of rap albums this year. I have a good number of blogs and sites I visit for my other musical predilections but I can't find a really good site to keep up to date on my rap/hip-hop releases. If an album came out by an artist I follow then sure I know it but otherwise it's hard for me to discover new artists.

I just copped the new clipping. album and I think the last rap album before that I grabbed was Chance but was really disappointed in it because it had a ton of singing and the style of rap that I just really don't like from artists I don't care for. Found a lot of albums coming out by people I enjoy have let me down lately like Kanye, Bronson, Chance. Too much singing, too much of that laid back style that's a lot of repetition with little wordplay or flow. Just not a style I enjoy.

I'm having difficulty finding stuff similar to artists I enjoy like clipping., Joey Badass, Bishop Nehru, Blackalicious/Gift of Gab, El-P, Killer Mike, BLKHRTS, this is just random stuff I'm throwing out here. And I don't have a good place to follow to keep up to date with stuff like that.
Here's a somewhat personalized recommendation list of stuff that came out this year that you should probably peep:

Elucid - Save Yourself
Jay IDK - Empty Bank
Vince Staples - PrimaDonna
Denmark Vessey - Whole Food
Elzhi - Lead Poison
Apathy - Handshakes with Snakes
Planet Asia - Seventy Nine
Joey Purp - iiiDrops
The Purist & WestSide Gunn - Roses Are Red... So Is Blood
Westside Gunn - Flygod
Lushlife & CSLSX - Ritualize
Aesop Rock - The Impossible Kid
Open Mike Eagle & Paul White - Hella Personal Film Festival
Nolan the Ninja - He(art)
Blu & Nottz - Titans in the Flesh
Dälek - Asphalt for Eden
Danny Brown - Atrocity Exhibition
Mick Jenkins - The Healing Component
Tha God Fahim - Soul Eater
De La Soul - And The Anonymous Nobody...
No Panty - Westside Highway Story
Kemba - Negus
Kembe X - Talk Back

Finally listened to Birds in the Trap Sing McKnight now that it's on Spotify.

Basura. Travis needs to revisit Rodeo and master what worked with that project (a lot did IMO).

Yeah he regressed in a bunch of ways. Say what you will about rodeo but it's definitely a cohesive project. Birds is completely all over the place and totally unfocused.

Our Top 10 lists in this thread are a very good way to find good albums. Especially HiResDes' lists.

Here's some stuff from this year that I've listened to:

I love how rappers go up to The Breakfast Club trying to punk Charlamagne as he just sits there and talks to them straight up in his calm voice lmao. What is that, like the 3rd time this year? Low key MVP of hip-hop

Seriously, it feels like his career is now going to be divided as pre-Numbers on the Board and post-Numbers on the Board.

The beat for HGTV is so damn skeletal and its so good. One verse, minimalist beat, and its just so damn dope. Compare "Black Beatles" to this in terms of MWMI productions.

It's cause he knows he is in a safe environment. Although he looked like he was going to cry if you look at his face yesterday real talk lol.

I was just about to say that I saw a tiny bit of fear in his face at some parts even though he tried to be cool, lol, especially when Beanie talked about having had murder charges or something. I don't know much about Beanie, is he about that life? I thought at one part it sounded like he was breaking character and a laugh slipped out when he threatened Charlamagne.

Holy shit, this Viper album is fucking awesome.
Wait, are we talking about "Y'All Cowards Don't Even Smoke Crack" Viper? THAT Viper?

Also, "Labor Days" is like a 7/10 for me. I like the way it sounds sonically, but I feel like a lot of the album lies in Rock's lyricism and I am most decidedly not a lyrics dude, at least if the lyrics aren't offensively bad / childish. I guess because of that, it's not as captivating for me as I believe it should, but it reminds me of a lot of MMG stuff in a good way. I like Open Mike Eagle and milo, so I can see why I'm okay with Aesop Rock.

Yes, that Viper! It's fun as hell. That's the album I downloaded, fucking dig it.

Also, that's cool about Aesop, I suppose. Glad you enjoyed it.

Well, I'm a night-owl and I'm doing a light late-night study session.

As a student, I stay up 'till almost three every night. Fuck getting up the morning.

Well, I'm going to miss a good chunk of that conference I'm suppose to attend tomorrow. Starts in the morning.

Oh well!
