Just beat it, perfect ending music in the final boss battle, goes well with the whole wang is a badass thing. Overall it was a good romp and hopefully we get to see another one in a couple years because it was damn fun.

Glad it has a new game + as well.

Played it for like 2-3. Absolutely digging the movement system and general feel of the combat. But I can already tell that enemies' "elemental resistance" is gonna be annoying as all hell. Ugh.

Also, way too much menu fiddling in a shooter for me.

Elemental shit isn't too bad.

It's as simple as

Ice and fire for main two melee weapons you switch between

Have three ranged weapons you can switch between. It isn't that bad to switch between ranged weapons.

This game is incredibly fun, and some of the best gunplay I've experienced this year. Imo it's on par with Doom in that department. The cheesy toilet humor and dick jokes don't disappoint either, but maaaaaan I miss Hoji.

This game will consume my weekend.
So, is the new character not as interesting? I found Hoji hilarious in his put-downs and I would think (haven't started it up yet, just finished downloading) a woman would make for a refreshing change.

She has her moments but overall it's not as interesting a dynamic. The less linear nature of the game seems to have impacted how they can write the interactions really.

Yeah I'm not thrilled about her but she isn't bad.

Just like wangs humor is penis jokes and being a total sarcastic Douche, her humor revolves around calling him an idiot and putting him down. It's not bad, but while I laugh at most of everything he says I just see her sections as character interaction.

In one of the side missions I've now found some door behind a barrier, how to open it? Mission objective is already completed, I'm just now exploring the area.

There's also a dead body marked with same color and emitting same demonic sound as the gate, but now way to interact with it.

edit: nevermind, next mission you return there and can open the doors

Damn carpal tunnel preventing me from playing this game. I only got 15 minutes in before my wrist gave out, and what I played made me hungry for more. The combat already feels much more polished.

Kamiko is a pretty decent character but Hoji has a much more interesting story behind him which is further expanded in this game thanks to the story of the Nobitsura Kage. Overall I like both games for different reasons. The first game has better story and much more interesting plot, it also has some really cool weapons that aren't in this game (flamer, crossbow with explosive darts, warlord's head and demon heart). The fact that there is no secondary fire and it is now instead provided by runes is really meh. Choosing between terrible accuracy with akimbo or good accuracy but weak damage is not very fun. They should have kept the alt fire like it was in the previous game, ads is not really necessary and some special weapons (rail guns, bows) could have it as their alt fire. Why do I need to ads with akimbo uzis or a bazooka? Like they say, two steps forward, one step back.

Well, I just finished it. The final boss battle is great but the ending itself is basically "all right, and now let's...the end". So sudden and unfulfilling, even more than Doom 4's ending. Either they plan to make a dlc episode or Shadow Warrior 3.

A shame there are no shurikens in this game, Lo Wang loves shurikens :(
Yeah, they were fun to use on human enemies in the previous game. Did they also remove the ability to quick slash while holding a firearm?

She's a little too bratty for me. There's some decent exchanges here and there but the banter between Hoji and Lo Wang was much better imo.

No they didn't. Switch to any melee weapon while holding a firearm. There's even loading screen tip telling about it.
Can you elaborate? There's no way, as far as I can tell, to do a slash with your melee weapon while still holding a firearm like in the previous game.

Yeah I've switched plenty of times.

Speaking of there's like a million Ranged weapons to get and only a few melee weapons so far into my game.

They're out there, I have 2-3 of each type so far and I'm about 7 or 8 hours in. I use the dual sword and dual hand melee weapons the majority of the time.

Can you elaborate? There's no way, as far as I can tell, to do a slash with your melee weapon while still holding a firearm like in the previous game.

There's a button to switch to your last melee weapon and a button to switch to your last ranged weapon. I think the ranged option is ALT, not sure what it is for melee. But it's not like the quick strike option from the first game that didn't require you to swap weapons.

Is there a photo mode thread for this game? It looks fantastic and the photo mode is a lot of fun:

Yes they did. You can't shoot and melee at the same time anymore. You are talking about something else.

And besides, the quick draw only works during combat, not all the time, just like block.

Aaaaagh, I played another 40 minutes and I loved every second of it. I'm glad damage avoidance is now more feasible, thanks to the easier to avoid attacks and unlimited dashing.

Now I'm constantly tempted into destroying my wrists further by playing more. Send help.

question whats up with co op partners not being able to craft in the forge when you unlock it? Is it a glitch?

The guest player seems super limited. My friend couldn't turn in quests, see quest rewards, see map icons, mission text or even dialogue from one of the characters.

Gonna hold off on playing until they say something about it.

For anyone who is going to play on the hardest difficulty. Every time you die you lose all your skill point progress and percentage of money. Just a heads up since they don't tell you when you start a new game.

Ugh, so many random freezes. None of the troubleshooting steps have worked. Undid all overclocks, disabled background apps, verified cache integrity, reinstalled, ran as administrator, added rules to Windows firewall, reinstalled video drivers, etc etc

Stupid question but what's karma? I guess I missed that tooltip.

Use a controller. I know it sounds like sacrilege, but I'm experiencing great success with the XO gamepad.

That would explain why it seems to take forever to level up. How do you check your progress?

I've already been using a controller, it's just that bad for me right now. As of today, I can only play a little bit every few hours without ruining my wrists. Thankfully, I have pills that'll make it all better soon, which is good, because I am very much looking forward to dumping all of my free time into this game.

Word. The game is absolutely phenomenal. 22 hours in two days for me, this is THE game of the year for me. I don't think I will enjoy any other game this year as much but I still have very high hopes for World of Final Fantasy.

Anyway, the game is almost perfect. Some minor stuff bugs me but overall I totally love it. Biggest downgrade from 2013 are the fortune cookies, now it feels like the devs just took some random (and mostly stupid) quotes off of brainyquote.com and called it a day. Even though the fortune cookies in the original and 2013 repeated very often at least they weren't some stupid "philosophical" quotes meant to sound smart, wtf was the idea behind that I don't know.

Ehh, you saying it's your GOTY but two big things are not even as good as the first game. I would have hoped the story and characters would be even better, they are the main motivators in me continuing to play a game.

Shadow Warrior 2, Mafia 3, Deus Ex MD, Mirror's Edge Catalyst. Man I guess it's mainly big indie games that aren't disappointing this year (Inside, Thumper, Superhot, That Dragon Cancer, Hyper Light Drifter, Virginia, KR0 Act 4, etc).

Man, now that i finished the game (12h), this legit was what DNForever should've strived to be. A whole lot of crazy weapons, light rpg elements, the capacity to become a human rocket (which is essentially what vortex and the poke are), and some good, old fashioned boss battles. Heck, wang's cave, even though it is a completely new environment, seems exactly like the kinda building you'd see in d3d if the technology allowed it at the time. Place just screms "duke".

also that soundtrack during the final boss, gawd damn.

shame that the only post-game content is "ng+ in a higher difficulty". Expected some extra sidequests.

I think I've skipped nearly every cut scene, or cut them all short in some way. No idea what's happening and I still like the game.

You are missing some quality dick jokes.

I thought the humor was a bit too subtle in the first reboot, think they upped it just enough for me, burst out laughing a few times already.

But why? The voice acting is really good and the humour is perfect for Wang's character, you're missing out on one of the main things that makes this game unique. Personally I can't get enough Wang.

Not too impressed with the co-op. Terrible performance with like 10fps randomly for no reason with just one other player in my game. All the mobs are also incredibly difficult, yet all the loot I get seems to scale down to the host's level. Also, no drops from Bunny Lords unless you're the host.

I've personally started skipping them because the dialogue and story are pretty shit.

The dialogue during gameplay is tolerable, but I skip everything else whenever I can.

For some reason that i can't even begin to comprehend, item drop level is tied to story progression, regardless of whether you in ng or ng+. So yerp, if the host has just begun the game, you gon get, at best, lvl20 gems. Coop feels like a late in dev addition.

game difficulty does seem to change gem quality quite a bit, however. Whites became a rarity when i bumped it up to hard, and blues were absolutely everywhere.

The more I play this the higher my score gets, I love how I'm always getting some crazy new weapon. The game looks so good as well, apart from the human models which look like they were outsourced or left to interns, the quality difference really is massive and if I were the devs I'd redo them.

Just had some amazing dialogue after a quest,
where you're being told which body part to cut off and he's like "please say his cock, please say his cock"
, that shit made me laugh way too hard.

I've seen quite a few people using the phrase "finished the game" etc, does that mean that you finished all the story missions and then stopped playing? Is there some kind of "endgame" concept where you grind harder missions for better loot? I noticed there are multiple difficulty settings, does that mean you have to restart the game if you want to make it more challenging, and is there any mechanics-driven reason (like better guns etc) to make that worthwhile? I haven't seen much info about that stuff floating around.

I heard there's an infinitely repeatable NG+ or something. Dunno how far the loot improves though.

The amount of loot is insane, on one hand it's great because hell, who doesn't enjoy killing demons 100 different ways but I also spend a lot of time in my inventory. I have to say the weapons look incredible and they have some of the best reload animations I've seen. Overall this is turning out to be a complete sleeper hit and I hope the devs see serious success from it, after how they released SW2 I'd feel safe pre-ordering SW3, it's rare that a game just works straight out of the gate these days. I even bought SW1 from a GAFer for an extra portion of Wang when I'm done.
