That's about right.

Will play my first game as a random Civ on a random map on King difficulty vs random Civ's with random personalities.

Aw, the preload files are compressed. I was hoping I could listen to the music files to tide me over until Thursday night. :(

LOL, I literally did that same thing after it downloaded. :)

I hope the map generation is good. I didn't play enough of Civ V to judge that game's maps very well, but I was always disappointed in how hodgepodge maps were in, say, Civ IV with tundra next to flood plain desert, few mountain ranges and rivers, etc. Almost always 'had' to go into world builder to adjust that and force culturally linked starting places. I love maps, and part of the simulation for me is the geography.

China sounds powerful to me in a builder way it would be nice to learn how the new city system works with them. Pericles sounds like a good choice too to get used to the new civics system and city state relationships.

Still waiting to see if GMG has a sale at release, do they typically wait for the game to be released to start their sale or does it start a few days before?

usually the day before. They seem to be taking a different approach this time, trying to get you to buy Civ and another game 20-25% off instead. It'll backfire on them

is there any footage out where this game doesn't look a full generation behind civ 5?

i can happily plug away at utilitarian paradox interfaces, but this clash of clans heinousness is too much.

When's the last time you played Civ 5? Everything about it looks incredibly dated now, besides the UI. Low res textures being the main offender, but Civ 6 generally looks better in every way and has a lot more personality. I guess some people are put off by the "cartoony" style but I think it's perfect.

Unless it changed or was an error, it is on sale in the US. I got the deluxe edition for 20% off earlier. The deal didn't show up until I logged in and put the game into my cart on GMG, though.

Story checks out, I was surprised GMG would have it on sale but not advertise it. No way of knowing until it's in your cart!

lol

but for real, civ 6 looks painterly with the map parchment replacing shitty low res clouds and better looking topography, mountains, etc.

you remind me of when people started digging out the original star wars to justify jar jar poo doo gags.

it looks like a tablet game mate. a decent tablet game, but a tablet game. with all the flat gradients and bulbous art design to go with.

civ always had a reverence to it, a bit of class. now it's just another youtube thumbnail screaming for your attention by looking like everything else.

You remind me of Homer Simpson asking are we there yet? You don't like the graphics? They will not change significantly. It's a dead horse, don't beat it no more.

whys it gotta come out on friday

whyyyy

Debating on whether I should get this. Any tech gurus, if I can run Civ V, should I be able to run this fine?

Man I am really eager to play this over the weekend. I got Civ 5 at launch but never really gave it the time required. Want to dedicate myself to actually investing in Civ 6 and complete a damn game. Friday cannot come soon enough.

while I prefer Civ V's artstyle, to assume that VI's graphics is a "downgrade" that it is for tablets is hilarious

also god I hope you didn't see Civ II's silly looks

What are your specs? Basiclaly you need an i3 plus a discreet GPU. Even if it's not a very good one.

Does anyone who bought the game have Aztec DLC entry in Steam, or if you bought from GMG do you have a separate key for Aztec Civ access?

Getting conflicting responses about this...

On GMG it gives you 2 keys.
1 is the game the other is the Aztec DLC.

Now that I’ve seen lots of Civ 6 in motion I’m honestly okay with the graphics of it. While I love the way that Civ 5 looks, I did often have problems discerning details from the map due to busy clutter and noise. I often wished they would clean up the graphics to make it easier to pull out details at a glance, and it seems that Civ 6 has addressed that issue for me.

But then I’m not usually fussy about graphics in games, I’m much more interested in great gameplay than super realistic graphics. Master of Magic is over 20 years old now yet I still consider it one of the best fantasy 4X games ever made and I still play it now and then, despite it literally looking like Civilization 1. Fucking Civ ONE. So yeah I’m not on the whole “Civ 6 looks like a tablet game” train at all.

Finally broke down and preordered CivVI on amazon. I figure it'll probably get dropped off while I'm at work, then I can come home and install and play it...maybe that night, maybe that weekend. I dunno. I just realized something though; I hope it's just a steam key because my current rig doesn't actually have a DVD drive in it. >_>

What's funny is I was HIGHLY critical of the initial screenshot rollout. It really did look like a mobile game to me and the maps looked sparse as hell. Boo.

But then seeing the game in motion later completely changed my tune. I don't know exactly what happened but the first screenshots vs. the first video footage showed two completely different games to me.

Perhaps it was the water lighting effects or the parchment fog of war. Landscapes didn't seem so barren either.

I can certainly see an argument of preference between Civ V & VI visuals. The art styles are pretty dramatically different. And I enjoy both.

But thank goodness, for me at least, I've had a complete change of heart on VI. I think it looks colorful, clean, and inviting.

My avatar gives it away. Torin the Chosen forever!!!!

I would love for someone to make a modern MoM, preferably in the style of Civ 5 / 6 but with the good old tactical combat and huge plethora of spells. I own War of Magic, Age of Wonder, Fallen Enchantress, no one seems able to re-create whatever it was that makes MoM so good to play and re-play over and over again. Such a shame. :(

I keep listening to music tracks from Civ 6 on youtube. This is going to be a long week….

If you can find Sorcerer King for cheap in an upcoming sale it might be worth a try. It's a further refinement on Stardocks MoM style games and I enjoyed it quite a bit more from that standpoint than Fallen Enchantress.
