I have positive reaction with these clips. I have no problem with Atlus dub though it would be nice if Japanese dub available too since the impression thread said the performance were terrific.

You haven't heard about Japanese Voice Actor Union(s) and their laws aren't you?
Considering 95% of Japanese games these days have the option of dual audio. Or just original audio plus subtitles. It can't be that bad.

Even FFXV is going to be dual audio.
Atlus have no excuse.
It's a Japanese game, set in Japan, chock full of Japanese culture.
Japanese audio makes sense here more than most games.

We're talking about someone who was in Trails of Cold Steel 2, Ace Attorney 6, Shin Megami Tensei IV Apocalypse AND now Persona 5. She's a rising star in the VA world.

Unfortunately. The dub of XCX is pretty uninspired compared to Xenoblade's British dub by going back to using the usual American voice actors who voice 98% of JRPGs.

The voices in the trailer give the game a very Saturday morning children's cartoon feel.

I mean, the characters in that game lived on a city called "New LOS ANGELES", so why would the characters have British voices?

You played it already or just judging from some clips?

I've never experienced a dub that I thought was better or on par with the original material. no matter if its games or movies. in 99/100 of cases, it's much worse - to the point of ruining my enjoyment if it is a story focused va heavy game.

for example, I thought the va in p4 was pretty awful. it completely ruined the idea of being a japanese high schooler. in my opinion there is no defense ever to not include original va. and it's always better to have original + subtitles than only the dub. that should be a given, but I know people will argue otherwise because it's too hard for them to read some text.
I expect companies like atlus and sega to be able to sort out whatever legal issues they might have. this is not an unsolvable problem, its incompetence and laziness.

We will all still get used to the voices for over 100+ hours and when they change up the voices in the remake later we will all collectively flip our shit because we grew to love the original cast.

P4: Golden VA for Chie was awful compared to the original.

Matt Mercer is the only one I know but he does great work.

It's not that I dislike it at all but I still think that the "show me your true form" line is going to get really annoying, really fast.
It's said every time protag does a sneak attack, which means ~95% of the time before a battle.
It has nowhere as much gusto as the JP actor's 「正体を見せるよ!」

Rights issues aside (which does exist), there's also additional programming work to be done. Calling it stupidity and laziness is just being lazy and making the problem seem more simplistic than it actually is.

They said that they'll look into what they can do, but as of now the game will launch with EN dub only.

Oh man, the one VA I asked for in past posts on the topic was Xander because of his amazing role as Dagda in SMT4A and he's the protagonist, cool! He's so talented, I hope this is the start of a relationship with Atlus because his range is impressive too and he could work in more of their games without feeling like he's the same character every time like with Lowenthal.

Mercer and Cassandra are great too, man I really want to see the rest of the videos now.
Can't wait for a confirmation that there are no fucking honorifics this time around too.

P4G English dub was amazing, imo. So many lines came out so much more hilarious or touching because of the English dub. Who didn't love Nanako's English VO?

Also, calling them stupid and lazy for not including JPN dub is unfair. Would you call people lazy for not learning Japanese so they can play it in its native language then?

I'm a programmer myself, I don't think the overhead would be that big. it's incompetence because if it's that hard to give us dual audio - which other games already do successfully -then it either means that their code is a mess or that they are just making up excuses.

in any other media , like anime, movies or tv dramas it's expected to have access to original sound/va. one, because dubs are almost universally always worse or get things wrong or make bad tradeoffs and two because most serious consumers care about artistic integrity and experiencing the original product as it was intended without having it filtered through americanization(im form sweden for example) or other crap like that.

Persona is one of those games that has always been better in English. This cast looks great and looks to continue that trend.

It does beg the question of why Atlus still hasn't been able to do the thing, when most companies can do it.

Heck, Bandai Namco was holding out for a while too, but they've since put dual audio in Tales of Zestiria and Berseria.

Either Atlus USA has a way smaller budget than BN (which is possible, but Tales is just as 'niche' if not more so than persona) or something else is going on here.

Note: I personally don't care about dual audio since my first Playthrough will be with the dub, but I'm honestly curious about this situation.

Only if you don't consider it from the outset which in this day you really should.
There are many reason for dual audio not making it over but programming cost/work should not be one of them. It's an excuse on the level of we can't make the "3ds region free cause hardware" bad. Srsly when you make the right consideration from the start it can be as simple as just switching audio files.

Even if I haven't heard the voice of every character in japanese, I still find this hard to believe, as the voice acting in all Persona games have been pretty mediocre.

I'll continue to commend Atlus USA's commitment to releasing games entirely in English. An option for dual audio would be nice, but I'm tired of buying games that only have English text and not voice. If I want to play a game in Japanese, I'll do so.

Games like the persona 5 that reasonably could potentially sell a million+ outside japan will always choose a English dub over Japanese dub with subtitles if they have to choose. Going Japanese only limits the sales potential significantly. Companies don't invest all the extra time, money and effort dubbing for a joke to annoy the smaller but vocal original dub fans.

Maybe I've heard them in games before, I don't really know, but I can't say I've ever heard of any of them by name, but I don't follow these kind of voice over people really.

I'm sure they will do a fine job though, Persona dubs are normally pretty decent after all.

I recognize you from the Import OT, and so I'll put it into spoilers for why I think there might be a valid reason why they don't bring over the japanese voices, as they won't make sense, as they will have to rewrite multiple scenes.
The story makes use of the japanese speaking broken english, and the native english speakers speaking broken japanese at multiple points. This would of course need to be rewritten for the english version, as they can't switch from english to english, and probably won't switch from english to japanese at hawaiian immigration.

Had to look up some of the names since they didn't have instant recognition, but I have heard almost all of them in a substantial role before, aside from Haru's VA and think they're all pretty decent VAs. Mercer is definately the biggest name amongst the main characters though.

Wonder who will voice the secondary characters. We already know D.C. Douglas is in and the voice in the trailer I'm pretty sure is Richard Epcar. Guess they are going with more established VAs for those roles. I'm already penciling in Karen Strassman as Sae.

You would probably know Matt Mercer the best.

He voiced:
- Leon
- Chrom
- Walter (SMT4)
- Jesse McCree
- Gangplank
- Alvin
- Cor (FFXV)
- Ryoma
- Rexxar
- Stryker
- Edge Maverick
- Kanji in all the P4 spin-offs

So that's the guy. I like to call him the other Troy Baker

I guess you would prefer foreign movies to be released as dubs rather than texted as well then? I don't quite understand how reading subtitles can be tiring, but as a swede I've done it all my life(and I'd like to think I've benefited from doing so) so maybe I'm simply more used to it.

Watch her voice Caroline and Justine. Nanako in P4 and the anti-Nanakos in P5. :p

I really don't think that's a major reason at most sounds like the kind of challenge localization loves :p. Pretty sure it mostly comes down to cost/contracts being a pain.

I recognize a few names here and seems good. I think I'm most recently familiar with Xander from FFVIIMachinabridged for his time as Rufus Shinra, which is hilarious.
