Persona 5 English Cast Revealed

in any other media , like anime, movies or tv dramas it's expected to have access to original sound/va. one, because dubs are almost universally always worse or get things wrong or make bad tradeoffs and two because most serious consumers care about artistic integrity and experiencing the original product as it was intended without having it filtered through americanization(im form sweden for example) or other crap like that.

I'm sure the rest of your highschool anime club is jealous of your high class and rigorous standards.

There should be dual audio and it sucks that we're not getting it, but you don't need to sound like a pretentious ass while complaining about it.

I really don't think that's a major reason at most sounds like the kind of challenge localization loves :p. Pretty sure it mostly comes down to cost/contracts being a pain.
I just started wondering how they would properly adapt that without having to redo a couple scenes, but it still stands that they have to rewrite it, and then the japanese voices would not fit with the read dialogue anymore, and think about (minor story spoilers, but you should still avoid reading it if you want to stay in the dark)
that before the trip to hawaii and during their trip there was the anne story arc revolving around her being able to speak english and making "friends" because of that, as well as later in a palace, the english player would have japanese voices on, then at the pool they would hear japanese the entire time while reading in english, and then anne would speak french or something but you would really loudly in completely broken english hear "My name is anne windsor". ^^ that scene made me laugh so hard when I played it on my second slow time through ^^

Even if I haven't heard the voice of every character in japanese, I still find this hard to believe, as the voice acting in all Persona games have been pretty mediocre.

The original VA sounded really good from what I heard. IN regards to the other Persona games it's hit or miss w/ most of the characters then after a while you just end up getting used to them after hearing them for so long.

Looked up Erika Harlacher... really hope she's not bringing her Ayesha voice for Ann. It was probably just the voice direction, but she was pretty high-pitched in that.

Oh, now I see that Xanthe Huynh voiced Meruru, the whiniest Atelier protagonist of them all... Cassandra Morris voiced Totori, and Max Mittelman voiced Logy. It's an Atelier reunion, y'all! lol

I do like that most of them seem pretty new though, and I haven't been let down by a Persona dub yet so I'm sure I'll be fine with it.

P4G English dub was amazing, imo. So many lines came out so much more hilarious or touching because of the English dub. Who didn't love Nanako's English VO?

Also, calling them stupid and lazy for not including JPN dub is unfair. Would you call people lazy for not learning Japanese so they can play it in its native language then?

Yeah I played P4G in English and then I've played some of it in JPN and I have to say the english dub was good. nanako almost sounded like her JP voice actor but in English. It felt natural.

but this so far idk.. Ryuuji sounds like some eager nickelodeon kid show actor delivering his lines. He sounds too young. Morgana=Rise. it throws me off. In the japanese game, Morgana just has this cute and silly but contrasted with more adult speaking words. it just sounds perfect. Idk.

oh, so I'm pretentious because I don't want the americanized version of almost every damn japanese game that gets released over here? nobody would accept this situation if this was a movie or an anime series, but since it's games I'm pretentious for wanting something that isn't awful.

They sound fine. Like all dubs, they sound a bit off at first but I'm certain I'll adjust.

It's also interesting to see the UI translated.

She was the VA for English Kyoko in Danganronpa and I think she did a great job there.

As someone who fan subbed anime for years... A lot of people considered that attitude pretentious there too :)

Check out some interviews with Erika on Youtube. If she uses something pretty similar to her speaking voice, she's pretty much perfect for Ann, IMO.

This is also our first glimpse into the English UI.

I don't like the English font style. looks way too generic. :?

The persona 4 voice cast was also not "fresh" but not well known back when it was released, and many of those voice actors made a huge career since then, so I'm interested in seeing how these guys do and adapt to their roles, yet I also have to say that matt mercer is a perfect fit for yusuke in my opinion, so it will probably end up being great if they picked the remaining cast as fittingly as this one. But I do hope that the english version has more voiced lines, as the japanese version misses voices in a lot of important scenes.

100% with you on this and it's refreshing to read this oddly unpopular opinion. Frankly, I'd go one step further, as I have grievances with Americanisation in ATLUS' 'localised' scripts.

It would be weird to give us dual audio when the script won't match at all, so it's unsurprising that we're not getting it.

You're saying that localization removes the artistic integrity (somehow?) when all they are doing is dubbing it. How is that not pretentious? It's not like it's a 4kids dub or they're changing the names of stands to avoid getting sued.

Yeah, see this is why I made the "voice acting is subjective" post. The way you worded it sounds like "people who like the dub have no taste" as opposed to "man I'm tired of dub only because it just doesn't work for me" and that off puts a lot of people, especially when we do this song and dance for everything.

Also, you'd still partially get the 'Americanized' version because most dual audio games only have 1 text track.

Here's some other stuff to think about.

Yeah I just watched a couple videos, her normal voice seems fine. It's crazy how much voice direction can hurt or enhance a performance.

It's always going to be hard to disassociate the original voice actors from the characters now that so many of us have heard it for so long. I honestly think people don't mind the majority of dubs, given they haven't heard the original actors first.

I'm more curious of Soujiro's voice than any of the Phantom Thieves. I wonder if that was him saying the lines at the beginning. I bet
Mishima
was the one asking "are you guys the Phantom Thieves?"

Ehhhhhh aside from Matt Merced I'll have to listen to excerpts of each VA but Smash 4 "GRENINJA" Announcer as MC seems... lol. Good to see young talent get such a big role, though.

They'll never top P4G's dub, but I'm hoping they at least get close.

Not crazy about the little snippet of VA we got in that trailer but I'm staying cautiously optimistic.

I really hope there are some natural, original performances and not all dressed up, overacted stuff.

Robbie Daymond and Matt Mercer are doing/did both FFXV and P5? Well damn. Good for them! Robbie especially seems like a really good VA.

Very excited to give this game a shot. What is the general consensus for those who are playing the import?

Yea, they look at a script and they have to trust the voice director to tell them if the line they just read is good or not.

Listen Dagda voice from SMT IV Apocalypse. He is the P5 MC and as Dagda he is amazing. Actually more or less a 1/3 of the cast seems shared between both games xD

Isn't Xander Mobus the announcer guy for Smash 4?

Yep. This guy has a gifted voice.

To be honest, I would be fine with the game being dub-only if they would completely change the setting for the game just as in Ace Attorney. Just change it from Tokyo to a random fictional US City. At least the language spoken would fit the setting then.

It's the same reason I hate that all movies are dubbed into German here. Most movies are set in the US and it doesn't even make sense for the characters to speak perfect German.

I'm not criticizing the quality of the dub here. I'm sure Atlus will do a good job on that, but I dislike the dissonance between the spoken language and the setting of the game.

I feel you especially when one lives farther away from the big cities it's a major pain/impossible if you miss the timing finding a screening with the OV. I could never imagine myself watching the last Lincoln film in dub *shudder*.

I can't think of a worse idea than this.
