The Wii's success wasn't built in the first week. It was the sustained sales month after month which were 100% on the back of Wii Sports.

Mario and Zelda are big franchises, but they aren't going to move consoles to a whole lot of non-Nintendo fans. Nintendo needs a hook that brings in more than just their usual base. Zelda isn't going to be that.

I think the gimmick with this system is it advertises itself. People are walking around with this portable system that plays awesome looking console-level games. They'e bringing it with them everywhere they go, showing their friends. People are trying the games out, having fun with the thing, and suddenly they realize they want one. It goes viral.

But, of course, for that to work, the games have to be awesome.

I'm shocked to see so many on NeoGaf excited. I mean going by the last few years of post here I would have expected everyone to saying that the NX will be a waste of time (actually we do have few posters doing that anyway lol) and Nintendo should go third party and/or mobile.

I mean, that doesn't really strike me as a "gimmick". There isn't a lot of novelty in carrying around a powerful piece of hardware in the days of smartphones and tablets anymore. I doubt Nintendo will be banking on just that.

I actually have high hopes for this hardware, I think Nintendo has figured things out, I just don't think it's in the way that a lot of people here expect. There are some people that seem to still be holding out that Nintendo will take on the PS4/Xbox crowd head to head and I just don't see that. I think Nintendo is going to take NX in the completely opposite direction.

That would be fantastic. I'd also like to see them add a Paper Mario aesthetic to that game. The more pallets they add to that game the better.

But with the 3DS version of Mario Maker still coming I can't imagine they announce it before that launch. But also this is Nintendo so who knows that they're gonna do.

Are you talking about RDR2? Because if even in GAF the NX threads are immensely more popular than the RDR2 ones, I think that this effect could only multiply for a general audience. Just in a few hour this thread had surpassed the 79 pages the RDR2 trailer thread has now and the tendency is only increasing. Sorry, but RDR´s trailer will be the second news of the day.

And announced at an impossible hour for Europe.

Why´s that? 4PM is a very good hour to watch it.

I hope this is able to cheer me up. My Grandpa whom I have been living with for the past five years in order to take care of so that he and my grandmother can live a some what normal life without a nursing home is in the hospital with a bad concussion and they don't think he is going to make it. It was just so sudden... I thought we had more time... My world seems like it is being turned upside down as we try to figure out legal guardianship and power of attorney of my grandma and learn a routine for caring for her since she is diabetic and has dementia and mood swings and is a fall risk. It was my grandpas last wishes before the ventilator that she be kept out of a nursing home if at all possible and we are trying our hardest to honor it.

I'm sorry, I don't know why I'm sharing... I spend a lot of time with you guys I guess...

I just need a win right now.

I guess If anyone can provide cheer it's Nintendo. All that I ask at this point is that it is ergonomic.

My mother did the same for my grandma for a few years. We all loved each other and when the time came for her to go it was really sudden and fast! It truly was a relief and a huge tragedy at the same time even if everyone saw it coming – especially grandma, because she was quite bright until the end.

She really wanted us to go on and have a nice life so in her honor I went into the cinema (as I had planned for weeks) on the day she died and watched Ridley Scott's The Martian. It really helped that the film was so funny!

Please just enjoy the positive chaos in the forum when it gets revealed. Being part of this is ALWAYS a win

Thanks guys. I've been at the hospital all day explaining the events to family members that are flying in and coming from all over one after another so it's just weighing on me pretty heavy right now.

No doubt that whatever happens the drama that tomorrow brings to Gaf will be something to behold. Actually lifts my spirits a little just thinking about it.

I think I'll make a nice snack and ask my wife is she can cover grandma for me and camp out at my computer with gaf for a few hours in peace tomorrow. That sounds nice.
