In this thread we learn how many people don't understand that you don't do new news and or marketing during the Holidays as nobody is listening during the Holidays with the obvious exception being specific Holiday sales/marketing.

I was going off the other persons example price. Anyways most kids probably aren't patient enough to ask their parents to hold off on a holiday gift for three months.

True. But Junior has to consider when he picks a console, he is going to be stuck with that one for years most likely.

The console releases to the masses in less than 5 months. There's software for it, there's literally no way there isn't.

They apparently couldn't show it in september because Mario wasn't ready according to eurogamer (and they only showed like 7 seconds of Mario) so I def wouldn't be surprised if things are cutting it close.

It shows me that you have absolutely zero idea how preorders work, their importance and how many Nintendo stands to lose during the huge launch coming up of Sun/Moon.

It's like we all had blue balls and Nintendo sucked the tip and then went "we'll finish this in two months"

I mean that makes sense to me.

People buy things during the holidays. Hyping up something during the holidays that won't even come out until afterwards doesn't seem like the best idea.

Focus on what is coming out for the remainder of the year and leave 2017 for the Switch.

Wow.

Nintendo is so fucking incredibly out of touch with marketing and its fans its not even funny.
Honestly as a young marketing major I'm fuming lol. So tone deaf. Their marketing team must be full of 50+ year olds.

Way to give would be NS buyers a reason not to buy a PS4 or XB1 this holiday season!

Look, your console looks nice and all but other than Zelda we still have zero official game confirmations for the damn console. The WiiU's dead. You guys should be hyping us for the Switch so much that people would choose to wait for it instead jumping the gun.

Jesus Christ, Nintendo. I fail to see why this announcement is considerably better than the WiiU's.

Umm...... we already got 2 Dragon Quest, Just Dance, BGE 2, Sonic, Zelda, Mario,Pokemon and hopefully many other still unknown game here. So how can this be worst vs Wii U? And don't forget, this holiday, 3DS is still going to get tons of huge game so i am sure they don't want to miss those profit

I don't understand how this doesn't make sense. Why talk about a console RIGHT BEFORE the holidays that is coming out in march when you have other products to sell.

Nope. Third parties cant say shit until after rhe next NS direct it seems. I assume so anyway. Or else there would have been a blowout today.

Launch title games probably not, but considering at least three other companies already revealed their intentions to make NX titles, I can't see why other companies that aren't part of the launch release can't say anything.

I think Laura said that we will know the specs by the end of the month so maybe we are getting another leak but not official from the Big N yet.

Parents are never in tune with this stuff. Its up to the kids to steer their parents to the console they want. And we don't know that it is $350.
The hook of a console and a portable in one is a good one.

LOL, my 7 y/o son got lucky because he has a gamer Dad. Good thing his birthday is in March. I may get one for him and one for me depending on price. He already has an Nvida Shield K1 Tablet , a 2DS, and a Wii U why not add a Switch to his already growing collection of gadgets and video games.

On the bright side, there is no way most of their lineup doesnt leak this year, we are way too close .

They apparently couldn't show it in september because Mario wasn't ready according to eurogamer (and they only showed like 7 seconds of Mario) so I def wouldn't be surprised if things are cutting it close.
That sounds like bullshit tho, they dont need the new Mario game to be ready to show 7 seconds, we saw almost a minute of Xenoblade X more than 2 years before it was released

Gotta build that thirst. They havent showed anything on this yet. It really ease a teaser. But november december is full as it is better to take the spotlight when the industry has blown its load after new years.

what else are they pushing this holiday? But at the very least I would think they would have preorders up before the end of the year.....maybe.

It would probably be a bad idea to talk about your games without Nintendo's full blessing. Possibly not allowed to show any footage so it would be all words.

Revealed intentions, but no actual game announcements. I feel like if they could announce them, they already would have.

Not a bad decision. Anything they announce or show off would be lost in the holiday mix. This isn't the 90s when Sega released the Saturn on short notice. The moment they announce anything for this system millions of people will know

Wait, you have a marketing major and you don't get the rational thought process behind this?

This thread is just insane overreactions honestly.

And then u faced a huge problem of killing ur product u wanted to sell in holiday as u overhype a product that it is not coming yet til March.

It is a hard thing to do or not to do. So i can see why they did this. I mean, if u a are a marketing major, u should see why they did this right?O_O

Pokemon Sun and Moon, Super Mario Maker 3DS and NES Mini all had potential of doing very huge. If u hyped the NS tooo much before all this game launched, it had potential of cutting these games sales.

Yes cause all of those large multinational conglomerates and fortune 500 companies that move large amounts of product all drip feed news for their next big thing during the Holidays that isn't gonna be out till the follow year.

Oh wait they don't...

They got an Animal Crossing Direct, few 3DS games for the Winter, along with a new mobile app and a plug-n-play system launch.

Wonder if they just wanna focus on that as they continue fortifying that line up.

If Nintendo completely shoots off all of their interesting news now, then they have nothing to ratchet up the marketing pressure with closer to release. Plus, I'm sure Nintendo and third parties don't want to torpedo potential Holiday sales by tipping their hand on the Switch now.

It's depressing. I want some evidence that NX is going to get good support that I care about. Hybrid has potential but it will be when we see 3DS support continuing and PS4/XBOne/PC downporting that we will know NX is going to be given a chance.

Right now I'm left wondering: is this too expensive for 3DS games; will it just push developers to mobile? Does this have a suite of features, like streetpass or mobile apps that incentivevise portable play? Will it get any of the big, particularly Japanese games that are coming to other consoles on UE4?

The teaser just confirmed what we expected from leaks without giving me any firmer idea what to expect from this device. Doesn't help that Nintendo is trying to act like this doesn't replace 3DS. Does that mean shared catalog isn't happening or is it just BS?

On the one hand I think the idea has potential and doesn't look like they completely flubbed it, but this reveal isn't doing much for me. The system doesn't grab me aesthetically and there has been extremely little shown as to where in gaming this device fits. Classic bad Nintendo messaging imo. And I was hoping today was the day they started getting their shit together.

Also, drop this trailer and do nothing to make the thirst persist?

I really, really hope they'll clear up the misconceptions. Is Skyrim coming? Are motion/gyro controls at all present? What were Mario Kart/Splatoon?

The longer they wait to clear these things up the longer misinformation spreads, which is a sincere problem when it comes to platform launches (misinformation hurt the X1 launch).

I'm going to trust Nintendo's decision on this. I remember the doubtful reactions (including mine) when we heard Nintendo would use E3 to essentially only show BOTW. That decision turned out to be a hit

What would Nintendo gain from marketing games during the holidays that aren't going to be out and are on a console that isn't going to be out?

You'll hear more stuff this year in one way or another...
man pls call their marketing person gaf is THIRSTY

nes console and most importantly Pokémon. Not really paying attention to their other games. The point is they don't want people to play wait and see when they could still be buying games for their hardware out now and releasing this holiday.

Not the least bit surprising. Gotta clear that Wii U stock.

I don't see how revealing this stuff in January 2017 as opposed to December 2016 is gonna make the number of pre-orders any lower.

I'm not surprised by this, I want to know about the price because I have a feeling Nintendo is going to come in way to expensive. I hope I am wrong about this but I dunno.

Would have liked a steady drip feed of tidbits to keep the hype and interest up, but whatever. Lots to play elsewhere in the meantime.

The hook of a console and a portable in one is a good one.

I wonder how many kids are aware of the Switch let alone feel like wanting one. Most kids already have a tablet with massive gaming libraries. They're probably looking forward to a new iPad than a gaming console this holiday.

The Switch is clearly targeting an adult who wants to game on the go. Do you think it is a coincidence that they didn't show any kid playing the Switch in the preview video?
