Battlefield 1 PC Performance Thread

Running everything on ultra @ 100% resolution scale with FXAA Medium and SweetFX "TAA Blur Remover" preset: https://sfx.thelazy.net/games/preset/6069/ - I know the preset is designed for use with TAA but I've been trying to tweak my game for sustained 100+ fps constant without much loss in quality. This is the absolute best combination of performance, clarity and AA that I could achieve so far by a long shot and I am extremely impressed with this compared to running @ 125% resolution scale and no SweetFX/AA.

Depending on the map, # of players, etc. I'm now getting my 100+fps (and above) and pretty much all times. Having GSync helps in the event that I see a bajillion explosions on screen at once, smoke, etc. but even then it is buttery smooth (probably only drops to 80ish fps I'd say, in a worst case scenario).

I still don't understand how I'm getting 80-100+ FPS with a single GTX 970 when the graphics look this good (running on High settings).

Does DICE employee wizards or something? Seriously, how is this even possible!?

There is some weird pre-sharpening or edge-enhancement being applied in the final build with TAA enabled. It definitely wasn't present in the beta. It's creating a crusty halo artifact around edges.

I don't mind pre-sharpening, if that's what they're going for, but I'd like it to be an option at least.

YES! I'm glad I wasn't the only one that noticed this, I just was not able to really describe it.

I wish they removed that effect and had TAA work just like the beta, the image was much cleaner and better looking in my opinion, it looked really smooth.
 
I'm getting good performance (80-100 FPS) with a Sky-OC'd i5 6500 at 4.3 GHz, 16 GB of DDR4 RAM, and an OC'd 1070 on Ultra settings. Constant 100% CPU usage.
I'm having an issue where textures look super smeared starting at medium distances away. I thought it was TAA but it also seems to be present with FXAA. Any ideas?

Same here, can't use TAA due to the weird sharpening effects. It basically gives you a scene that looks like it was way oversharpened then blurred to hell - looks really bad.
 
For some reason my framerate is capped at 90fps. Not sure why, I don't see any reason why it should be. I'm set at 144hz, vsync is off, etc. Anyone else?

Again, might have been server side, may still occur on certain setups. The new Nvidia driver didn't noticeably increase performance, but then I was getting great performance before it.

 
Anyone try the new Nvidia game ready drivers yet?

I'm hoping they'll fix the black screen crash I keep getting. It runs flawlessly for about an hour or so and then it'll crash with both monitors going black and the sound still playing. Have to do a hard reset with the power switch.

Check your eventviewer, sounds like your driver is crashing but doesn't recover automatically.
 
Are anyone else's menus blurry as hell? The game looks and runs great for me, but the main menu UI and end of round score screens are both super blurry looking.

What amount of usage do you expect to be getting on 4 physical cores in this game anyway? With hyper-threading off, I'm getting way higher usage than with it on as well. Same for any game. It's just how it works. It's not that the physical cores are actually getting more work than with HT, it simply spreads the workload differently. HT has a higher percentage ceiling due to the four additional virtual cores, whereas 4 physical core alone are going to cap out the percentages more quickly in the same instances, thus the difference in reported usage percentages.

Again, with HT off (and granted, the framerate uncapped) I see pretty high usage in a number of recent games. What's really important, is if the usage is maxing out AND you're still seeing poor performance, low fps, stutter, halts, etc.

I would love to know why I'm seeing CPU usage like that now when in beta it was ~20% lower. There is nothing visible in the game that would indicate insane jump in CPU demand.

Edit: In that mountain map from which you shot is CPU caps to 100% at random and freezes whole system for several seconds at the time.

Yeah, what you describe is not good. It could either be the game, plain and simple, or everything else. It would be pretty difficult to troubleshoot it if it were the later.

Do you have HPET forced on or off?
Do you clean install your drivers every time?
Do you have Max pre-rendered frames in the control panel at "1"?
Did you disable CPU core parking?
What speed is your RAM, and are you overclocking it, or is it at stock?
Are you getting the same CPU usage issues in the beta desert map? Because I've noticed it is the least demanding in the final game.

I could ask more, but again, if you weren't having issues in the beta, and you changed nothing in the meantime, then it must be the game.

Also, are the servers down for anyone else? They've been down for me for a couple hours now.

Jesus, that urban map is unplayable on my rig (2500k, 8Gb DDR3 1600Mhz, 970) Player count definitely seems to affect things, Ballroom Blitz went from a hitch-fest to near flawless once half the team were whittled away by the server outage. It's a shame after the beta ran great, albeit on a less intensive map, but I'm still certain the map in the release version runs worse for me.

Has anyone had a positive experience with 12Gb of RAM? I've got an additional 2x2Gb sticks that I took out a while back while troubleshooting something without bothering to seat them back in.

You're fine as is then. I only asked about pre-rendered frames, because lower values can actually hurt performance if your CPU is already having a hard time. Core parking is a one time thing done to your power plan. It can help smooth clock frequency transitions in systems with adaptive power usage, and keep all your cores "awake" at all times, but isn't dire either. As for memory speed, I asked because increasing RAM speed, timings, and voltage can have a direct result on how far a CPU OC clock can be pushed, and can actually increase CPU temps, as well as reduce OC stability. But, again, if you're stock, you're fine.

It must be the game reacting that way with certain configurations. Here's to hoping they fix it soon.

980ti Asus Strix OC (I think the clock usually goes 1350-1450ish)
3440 x 1440 on Ultra

On the first few SP missions got a nice solid 75-80 FPS. Will have to get some usage monitors up to see how the CPU is doing and do some MP testing later today. So far I'm very happy with it though.

Does anyone know if you can disable the weird over sharpening filter? I tried turning off AA and that didn't do it. I don't remember it looking like this when I played the open beta.

I'm running on the exact same setup and I haven't had any huge issues so far. I can definitely tell that the CPU is pushing about as hard as it can and it might be time to overclock and/or upgrade.

Running i5 2500k@4.5ghz, 16gb ram, gtx1070.

Running High preset with 100% resolution scale at 1080p.

Game runs really bad. Beta ran much better. I only bought the game, because I was convinced from the beta that it would run fine. Otherwise I would have waited until I upgraded my CPU next year.

FPS dropping to 40 all the time during firefights, making the game stutter like hell.
DX12 seems to give a little boost, but not too much.

Anything I can do with the settings to shift some load from CPU to GPU somehow?

It sounds like you're having the same issue I'm having?


I tried forcing 16x AF in the nVidia control panel and that had no effect.

Any reason to use DX12 on Nvidia cards? Any fancier stuffs? Last I heard performance was lower, but maybe that changed.
