Two years later, how do you feel about Smash 4?

I played the 3DS version more and I'm not sure why. The roster is incredible, the stages are very good in both versions, the only disappointing thing is no real single player mode and all the songs being max 2:00 mins.

The best of the 4. And I still have high hopes for old characters returning in the switch port. I want all the gang back.

Ice Climbers will most likely be back. But that's honestly the only veteran(s) I feel confident about.

Wolf is possible too, but I don't know, after what happened with Smash 4's DLC period. He didn't have any legal (Snake) or technical (Ice Climbers) issues...but they just didn't bring him back. Maybe they just don't care about him. I feel like Star Fox Zero being an overall dud might sour them from bringing him back. Squirtle and Ivysaur don't really make sense without Pokemon Trainer, and no ones about Pichu or Young Link.

For me, Smash 4 has best gameplay (no wave dashing) and presentation (except music, Brawl topped it there).

But Brawl has it beat on stage design, single player content, and modes (Rotation mode is a godsend for all party games).

Smash 4's gameplay with more content would be the perfect Smash, which Smash Switch most likely will be.

I still have yet to play this game despite Smash Bros being one of my favorite series, I bought a Wii just for Smash but didn't do the same thing for the Wii U. I look forward to the Switch Port I will be there day 1 to catch up

I think I'm burned out on the series. Smash 4 just never got me that excited.

Shulk being in is awesome though.

gorgeous presentation, great cast, superb DLCs and the most fun I had with friends and local multiplayer for the last few years

no Snake tho ;(

My opinion of Smash 4 has not deteriorated like it did with Brawl. I still like Melee better, but Smash 4 is great. I play both regularly.

Unpopular opinion but I thought Project M did more things right than 4 did, competitively and casually. My friends and I enjoyed stamina type 3 without blast zones far more than any Smash Tour run.

Pretty sure no one liked smash tour.....only thing likeable about that mode was the end fight when you have multiple characters to use for each stock. But Project M pulled this off first I think

An improvement over Brawl, but still not where I'd like it to be.

I see 4 as Brawl 2 with the competitive feedback. People say Sakurai doesn't care about the 1x1 game, but patches say otherwise.

I just think he always wanted a balance between both camps and Brawl tilted too much toward the casual side.

Best Smash game ever. 8-player Smash was one of the best things in the game for my friends and me. We had so much fun in the chaos and it was unlike any kind of game experience we ever had.

Smash Tour is terrible but I like it. It's the Smash equivalent to Test Your Luck.

Since Konami is on the Switch's partner list, I can't help but feel that Snake could come back.

I mean, Konami doesn't even make games anymore, how could they partner with Nintendo for anything else ?

It needed the single player to keep my interest. I still have Brawl and it will see more plays from me than Smash 4 because of Sub Space Emissary. Outside of that it's cool but doesn't offer much for non multi players.

Other than Pac-Man the new character additions really did not click with me, and the lost characters like Ice Climbers, Squirtle/Ivysaur from Pokemon Trainer, and Snake actually wound up feeling pretty devastating. When the pace of the game seems to favor defensive play and I just find it to be really dull, so I can never really find myself very invested in Smash 4. Stage diversity is abysmal on both platforms.

Speaking of Brawl, is there a way to play it on the Wii U with Gamecube controllers? Would the GC adaptor work?

Happy that Shulk made it in, but not much else beyond that. Smash bores me sometimes. I actually had much more fun with Splatoon than I ever had with Smash or Mario Kart 8.

I'm one of those weirdos who plays Smash mostly by themselves. Smash has never been strong in the single player department but I'm still able to have hours of fun with it and the CPU battles. With Smash 4, I was pretty down on it on both. Single player modes were uninteresting (except Smash Run for a brief honeymoon period), the events were either boring or frustrating, absurd amount of lethal stage hazards and items made high level cpu fights just not fun.

Now playing with friends or online, it's a blast. Best roster in Smash no question. It was just disappointing for me that this multiplayer focused series who had decently fun single content for me fell short.

Would the GC adaptor work?

It doesn't. :(

They did. It boggles my mind that Smash Tour was a headlining feature in 4, while all star multiplayer was IN THE GAME but not made its own mode.

no ones about Pichu or Ivysaur.

I loved those two, I miss catching people off guard with Pichu's up smash. And while I dont like to talk about Project M that much, what they did to Ivysaur was amazing, not that I dint like the brawl version.

Nah, I've heard this a lot. If PM was a major release between Brawl and Smash 4 I think a lot of people would agree that it met competitive and casual in the middle better than Smash 4. I meet so many random people that were never into Melee, but downloaded PM and basically never went back to Brawl and never moved on to Smash 4. People that I didn't expect to play video games, either, haha.

With the criteria being which Smash game I'd prefer to play, it comes in 4th. Above Brawl, but below Melee, PM, and 64. It just never felt right to me.

Whoops, I actually meant to say Young Link there lmao. Don't know what happened.

It's genuinely one of my all time favorite games. Made a ton of really good friends playing it, including some who I feel are going to be lifelong close friends to me. Tournament scene is great, traveling is super fun, practicing and getting better has been really fulfilling.

Right now I'm one of the top ten best players in Tallahassee and that's something I'm proud of.

The gameplay has been truly refined. Lots of love put into the roster. Love the dlc ones. Cloud is my new favorite so much fun with him hope he returns foe smash 5.

One thing though I wish single player content was better. Needs more single player content ( story mode pls) also 8player smash sucks it ruined classic mode for me. And smash tour was just a waste of development. Shit should never be back. And being back the real break the target.

Really great roster, solid visuals, stages, and features the best physics/controls of the series up to this point.

But with that said, Smash 4 felt more like a grand refinement instead of a true sequel that adds any meaningful modes. Event mode is alright while classic/all-star get tiring after awhile. The version-specific modes are nice, but Smash Run doesn't offer much variety nor does it incled any additional options to spice things up, Master/Crazy Orders require some form of payment to play, and Smash Tour, while a neat idea, is really lame in execution (don't get me started on meeting the challenges for that mode.

For the possible Nintendo Switch version, I'd really love it if they offered up a Melee-esque adventure mode or other new modes that offer up more variety.

Same here. Smash 4 I feel is still stuck in that Melee-spite mode Brawl was in, when that's completely unnecessary.

I mostly play the game competitively these days, but I love it. Genuinely one of my favorite games ever now. Roster's amazing, gameplay feels just right and visuals are beautiful. Super happy that Cloud and Shulk got in. The only thing I really wish is that I wish this game had like more than 5-6 decent neutral stages lol.

Pichu should be back so Jigglypuff doesn't have to be the Joke Character anymore. This is why Puff was better in Melee after all according to Sakurai. #BuffPuff

Character roster is incredible, not just for the number but for the variety and quality of the new cast (Outside the new clones of course).

I wish the stage selection was better though.
He's a clone the same way Toon Link is to Link. Better example, Ken to Ryu (not SFV Ken).
No, he's not. Ike has completely different normals from Marth.

Bronetta

Ask me about the moon landing or the temperature at which jet fuel burns. You may be surprised at what you learn.
The guest characters really elevate Smash 4 to greater heights. Who would have thought we'd get characters like Cloud and Bayonetta yet we did.

You did good Sakurai, God bless your soul.

Sarcasm?

The only move Ike and Marth share is counter. They're as much of clones as Marth is to Palutena.

They don't even have similar but different moves like Fox and Falco.

I was making a joke since I knew the poster I quoted was referring to Lucina as "best FE character". Couldn't let that slide. Hence the ":p"

Ike is not even remotely a clone of anyone.

The single player of Smash Wii U sucks.

Smash Tour sucks.

Smash Run had potential but it's incredibly boring.

The newcomers are alright, but there are some huge omissions.

The cuts are awful. At least Mewtwo was the only unique character cut between Melee and Brawl. Now we're missing 5.

8 player Smash is awful and I should not be forced to play it in single player.

The stage selection is mediocre. If the 3DS and Wii U stage rosters were combined it would be amazing.

Target Blast is a shitty Angry Birds rip off.

The core gameplay is pretty good. Not as good as Melee but better than 64 and leagues better than Brawl.

The game greatly suffered from being split into two versions. I really hope we get an enhanced version on NS with all of the stages from both versions, all the missing vets, a newcomer or two, and the single player from the 3DS version.

The Smash scene is incredible. I think the necessity to play in person is such an important component. This is true for Smash 4 as well.

I have close friends I see daily and regularly that I met because of Melee in 2004. These relationships are strong.

One of the reasons I wish Nintendo would embrace the eSports scene. They should be encouraging this.

It was really good and I appreciated the more interesting single player modes this time around. I also just loved the idea of having Smash on a handheld. Only complaint I had with Smash 4 is that I hate that Bayonetta is a part of it. So many more deserving characters, stylistically and affinity-wise.

TI have very little motivation to play it.

The single player content is so poor, and something gunked up the menus between brawl and 4.
