[RUMOUR] GTA Single player DLC has been replaced with online map expansions model.

I honestly think people play GTA Online simply because of its popularity and GTA's history of being a big boy game. (Next to CoD, Fifa and so on) Their friends are playing, and they don't want to be a total dope by missing out.

Or... now open your mind real wide now... it's because they have fun playing it. I know, I know; sounds like more crazy talk from Old Man Meat.

Seems like every GAFfer who doesn't play GTA:O has some unified theory or other on exactly why people do. None of them involve the latter simply enjoying the game. XD

Occam's Razor, people!

The GTAO bashing in this thread is nonsensical. How difficult is it to understand how people can have a shit ton of fun playing with up to like 20 something friends/strangers in an expansive open world? There's a shit ton to do and mess around with.

This place never ceases to amaze me lol.

That's not what's fun for me. What's fun is doing the missions with friends or the heists.

8 million players per week

Maybe it's you that's out of touch?

That article is over a year old. It's alot less now.

People that are still playing are only doing so because there are no other options to choose from other than GTA Online... It's not like there's any singleplayer DLC to choose...

There's only so much sh*t Rockstar can shove down your throat before you end up swallowing it...

Wouldn't be surprised if true.

GTAO prints $$$

Does it really though? GTA sold like 50+ million copies, more than half of the sales were due to the last gen versions which made Rockstar over a billion dollars in like a week. GTA Online was busted then. They would be stupid to think single player dlc isn't worth it. Rockstar is perhaps the last dev for which I will preorder and buy their games sight unseen. Was very disappointed in no single player dlc for gta V. There was a point in 2013 when everyone at a party I went to was discussing the campaign story. Adults to even teens and kids. What kind of game has that kind of strength these days? Only shows or movies never video games.

If any of this is true i hope you can still acess these areas in single player. Just be able to roam around without dealing with other players would be nice.

This is one area that, if true, is unforgivable.

Usually I'd say "it's business, they have to make money, they owe us nothing."

However. GTA SP also prints money. The company itself is beyond wealthy, absurdly wealthy, even.

Respecting the fanbase is just the decent thing to do. This is, again -if true, on the level of Valve blowing off HL.

Single player DLC has been replaced with Online Map expansion model! Mainly due to the unforeseen success of micro transactions and GTA online in general!

Well thanks a lot for killing another series for me online. Even if it isn't true I was already bitter that we never got any single player dlc for 5.

Guess I always was the kind of person that played the game for the missions/actual built in objectives though and not just running/driving around shooting things like all the other people I know played the game for. Also I will never lose SA, which was my favorite game in the series, but it's sad to me that the mission variety and character progression from that game just isn't going to be improved on. GTA5 took a big step back to that but still felt really unfinished, and I thought we would be getting some good single player dlc.

Me, my fiance and his cousins play GTAO religiously. Why? Because it's fun and we have a good time doing it. We've all bought yachts, etc and never spent a dime of real money on any type of microtransactions.

It's not hard to make lots of money in GTAV especially if you play it constantly. I've seen people call the microtransactions disgusting but in all honesty they aren't even needed to have a lot of money. The game is no where near as bad as people make it out to be that's why it's successful. It's funny, the people who usually complain the most are the ones who barely play it if they do at all.

Is it?

Can you back up that claim or just talking out of your ass?

Strauss Zelnick Take-Two CEO, two months ago

“Fiscal 2017 is off to a solid start, with first quarter net revenue up 13% year-over-year,” said Strauss Zelnick, Chairman and CEO of Take-Two. “Our results were driven by the continued strong performance of Grand Theft Auto V and NBA 2K, coupled with growth in revenue and bookings from recurrent consumer spending, including record bookings from Grand Theft Auto Online.

Maybe it's changed since (PC) launch but my feeling when I first tried GTA:O was it's a sandbox with no toys, just an aimless empty experience.

Perhaps DLC will improve that? Though I'd still rather have SP DLC.

I mean I can agree with that for myself. I play GTA games for the single player and don't enjoy the online aspect and as such I have played very little GTA Online. Of course I don't say it's bad, and recognize that it must appeal to others since it's so popular. I also recognize that online being added to a lot of games that I enjoy has resulted in a less enjoyable single player game/shrinking of the experience that I enjoy in those games and I have gotten use to no longer being the demographic that something I once enjoyed is aimed at.

You check out anything after the Heists update?

Nah, most of the other content seemed to double down on things that I didn't really like or care about in GTAO. Heists was really the only thing I enjoyed for more than a few hours, even leveling up enough to be able to do them was a chore.

To be frank, this sounds fake as hell. I don't see how they build those environments and charge full price without supplying any single player incentive.

GTA V singleplayer content would be my number one wanted game if it came out. I have little interest in buying online DLC. Although I do agree that Rockstar should reuse the GTA IV map where possible.

If you can get 2-4 friends, check out the Lamar missions. I think they were added in the Lowriders DLC. They are more premium contact missions. Similar to the setup missions for heists. Character cutscenes before and after the missions. It would be great if they added more in the future.

Screw them. It's the best online-racing game I've played in years.

I'd say the same if it wasn't for the fact that everyone and their mother tries to make you spin out. Although I really like the racing I dread thinking about what will happen during the race as the countdown starts.

Willing to bet most here having even touched GTAO more than once or twice. Besides the terrible load times, GTAO is a hell of a lot different from when it first launched.

Either way, this rumor reads like fan fiction

Lets hope there is a set of missions that has a heavy emphasis on a narrative. (Hopefully it involves franklin).

Too bad GTA Online base is terrible. I still play it because it's great theoretically, but even starting it, trying to reliably get into and stay in the same session as your friends, having to reload ... twice in row when something goes wrong, the online disconnecting issues, the most toxic playerbase on planet...

But it's great co-op if you get 4 friends and shut everyone else out.

Gta online is nothing like it was at launch 3 years ago. Ain't really a grind anymore.

I might be in for this

I'm kind of curious about this, because when I played the 360 version back in the day GTA Online felt pretty much like random people crashing into each other, a couple of missions here and there, and then getting your ass capped when you went to deposit in your money in an ATM and lol all your hard work is down the drain. After that I learned you could deposit money via your phone (WHY DON'T THEY TELL YOU THIS EARLIER) but by that point I was already tired of getting ganked so I left it alone.

Disappointing. Great people are having fun with it and they get more of it, but I would personally be more interested in single player dlc and I'm sure I'm not the only one.
Also disappointing to read this change was because microtransactions sold well...and they still plan to charge for these maps on top? Urgh

While I have no doubt that singleplayer DLC was planned and scrapped for greater focus on continued GTAO support, this "rumor" sounds hilariously false.

I mean, come on... North Yankton and Liberty City maps releasing in a year? San Fierro and Las Venturas maps releasing in two years? Both will be $60 a pop? Vice City for GTA6 already leaked?

It's absurd.

Pretty sad if true. Dislike the way my hobby has been headed to for the last few years. This is another nail in the coffin.

Is GTAO have that bad of a rep amongst gaffers? I still play the crap out of it, extremely fun even to this day.
