[RUMOUR] GTA Single player DLC has been replaced with online map expansions model.

Single player gaming is already dying.

Games as a service are the big money makers now, publishers don't want to invest in content people will play once and then never pick up again.

This is also the reason why we don't see many big AAA IPs anymore without a multiplayer component.

If you are a Business and you make more money on Microtransactions and GTAO than you did with 2 large single player DLC's for GTA IV its a no brainer to not do any single player DLC for GTA V and focus on the online portion - especially if its still popular.

For me who loaded up GTAO once, saw nothing I wanted any part of, and never touched it again this is a bummer but a logical bummer.

I blame the people who used micro transaction a lot to make Rockstar feel this way.
And if Rockstar puts emphasis on online more than single player for RDR2, I would be much less interested.

I love multiplayer, but for GTA and RDR, I enjoy single player ALOT more than multiplayer.

I assume 30$ for each, will be equivalent to a full game.

It better come with a full reload of radio stations, missions, and heists for that amount of money. Also horses. Idk they'll be in for anouther rude awakening I think. Then again Destiny continues to sell disproportionately priced dlc so who knows.

You are right. Watch RDR2 single player story be twice as short as RDR and then GTA6 will not have single player at all, just Destiny/Division model with a few single player missions scattered around always-online persistent world.

If true, I'm astonished that they're rebuilding three huge cities, to Los Santos' detail/fidelity, just for GTA online.

Did it seriously take them 3 years to realize that this is what they want to do with the game? I already knew single player DLC wasn't coming if they didn't announce anything until early 2015 and if heists took that long to launch.

Essentially kills all hopes and dreams for a GTA6 on the PS4.

Best wishes.

I understand why they're doing it, but the fact that the latest DLC packs aren't even accessible as content (cars/weapons) in the SP of GTAV makes me re-evaluate future purchases of R* games. I really enjoyed RDR but if 2 is gonna be super online focused or lacking additional content in SP, I'm out.

North Yankton and Liberty City (Online Map expansion) $£ Paid DLC 1 2017 sept (Not Yet Complete)

San Fierro and Las ventures (Online Map expansion) $£ Paid DLC 2 2018 oct Not Yet Complete

Vice City.... Not until GTA VI, some time around 2020 At the VERY earliest!

San Fierro and Las Ventures were built alongside Los santos way back in the early development stages of GTAV, Scrapped on PS3/Xbox for obvious reasons!! After more then 3 years of re building for PS4/XBO/PC, Both are still being worked on with a release target of October 2018!

Single player DLC has been replaced with Online Map expansion model! Mainly due to the unforeseen success of micro transactions and GTA online in general!

Liberty City will be released September 2017.. The DLC will include:
- A Open ticket (for city slickers) to Liberty City!
- A Open ticket (for Snow Blowers) to North Yankton!
- EXCLUSIVE VIP Membership (for High rollers) which grants Exclusive access to THE CASINO in Los Santos!
- Pre Order Bonus of 1 million GTA Casino chips for pre order!!

Yeah, really, R* is gonna release 4+ entire new city maps for GTAV Online? Get off the crack.

That said even if the details of these leaks is bullshit the plain fact is that R* is more focused on online than ever before. It's a sad day.

ctrl+f "heist"

Oh, not interested then.

Like, how could they not do more of those. Most fun I have had in GTA since GTA3. All my friends wants more. They all stopped playing after we did all the heists.

The GTAO bashing in this thread is nonsensical. How difficult is it to understand how people can have a shit ton of fun playing with up to like 20 something friends/strangers in an expansive open world? There's a shit ton to do and mess around with.

This place never ceases to amaze me lol.

It's always amusing but I never take the moaning on here seriously.

I sometimes find that a more vocal base of people on Gaf don't really go in for MP games like this. They require some imagination and a willingness to socialise ;)

For me GTAO is fun, even better now with the biker gangs, security contracts and stunt maps.

As for these rumors a lot of that sounds rather fanciful.

This game is three years old, I can't believe people would still expect single player DLC to still be happening.

You see some of these type of posts pop up at GTAForums once in awhile. A lot of wish fulfillment masquerading as important development leaks. Until funmw2 (I think that's his name) leaks meshes of the Golden Gate bridge, I am not buying this one bit.

Dont believe this.

GTA Online has been incredibly successful but creating new content on a new cities/area level would be a massive undertaking in terms of resources.

They have RDR2 coming out next year with a GTAO equivalent.

Don't be insulting. SP games can also require imagination and honestly messing around in SP GTA requires imagination too. But yes, a willingness to socialize. Except most players in GTA online have no imagination and all they want to do is kill everyone else or at best make sure to mess up whatever they are doing cause it's fun annoying other people. So yeah, I don't really care for playing online except with people I know. Except R* wants to discourage that too by gimping any server that isn't fully public for the more recent features.

I do like online though but these days it requires a lot of reloading until me and my friends can get a mostly empty session (go to a full session gaurentee there is at least one griefer in there that's whole idea of fun is how to piss off everyone else).

I also love SP and wish they would have made SP DLC (and yes, anyone who is still holding hopes of SP DLC is setting themselves up for disappointment). The SP world is more immersive between more NPCs in it, more variety of cars at once, animals, and well, slightly better graphics (Some of this the online cannot help). Free roaming in SP can be fun and it would have been great to have some of the online features in SP (Except then they can't encourage shark cards).

Or... now open your mind real wide now... it's because they have fun playing it. I know, I know; sounds like more crazy talk from Old Man Meat.

Seems like every GAFfer who doesn't play GTA:O has some unified theory or other on exactly why people do. None of them involve the latter simply enjoying the game. XD

Occam's Razor, people!

I have, and still occasionally do, though — with or without friends.
It has a lot of potential, it's just the crappy invite system and greediness of the player base that puts me off.

Of course its fun with friends yet people also have to eventually get bored of the game — content updates or otherwise.

Proof that online players have more imagination. They don't need any of that fancy "immersion" when they have superior mind powers, amirite?

Smells like bullshit. People really expect them to add 3-4 cities to a game that only shipped with one? Also, I'd think R* would want to get people to switch to RDRO because they won't have millions of dollars saved up like they do on GTAO and would be more likely to spend real money to get fake money at the start.

I really doubt that this is true, knowing Rockstar they are focusing all their efforts on RDR2 at the moment, and GTAO is making tons of money even without any significant amount of new content, so why bother...

Personally I had some fun with GTAO when the game was released and returned for the heists which were also pretty great, but for me it simply lacks any kind of lasting appeal, and gamedesign influenced by microtransactions and a horrible community certainly don't help...

This is great news for me. I love GTA online. I wish the online expansions were bundled with some single player dlc for people who have been waiting for that.

But me? I'm happy. GTAONLINE is the best online game this generation and giving me more areas to explore and commit crimes in is just what the game needed

Tell that to the new DOOM

This is what happens when you buy microtransactions and loot boxes in full priced games. Stop supporting this anticonsumer bullshit.

I really don't believe this, but if there's a shred of truth to any of it, holy hell they have to revamp the mechanics and lobby/loading/UI system because relying on GTAV as a base for a huge expansion roadmap like this would suuuuuuuck so much.

Tell that to the new DOOM

The weird thing about new DOOM is that it seems to be mostly getting multiplayer paid DLC support even when most people claim it's single player in it which is interesting, and it doesn't even have straight microtransactions. This strongly suggests that not focusing on single player DLC actually happens for a different reason than multiplayer being the audience king (perhaps single player audiences being more likely to buy exclusively physically, for instance, or perhaps complexity of DLC development in both cases).

Is GTA Online fun to play as a single player with no friends / strangers joined? Is there anything you can't do (well other than obvious things like heists)? Races can be done against the AI, right?

What about indie games?

Can't even connect to a session ever, I only get into a lobby with just myself personally.

Me too, hope you're prepared.

This is just hyperbolic in a year where we got so many good SP games/campaigns.

GTA & RDR is still going to have big single player components as that is their identity. Game development has become a very time consuming affair and expecting the same output from a studio who always works on big detailed open world games is just crazy. Maybe broaden your horizons and check out games outside the AAA and you will see there are more varied games being made everyday.
