United States Election: Nov. 8, 2016 |OT| Hate Trumps Love

watching CNN and MSNBC in complete meltdown when they gave this guy a platform the whole time. part of me hopes he really thrashes them for 4 years....

head of networks saying "trump may be bad for america but it's great for ratings"

the elites are to blame for this stupid fucking shit

Yup CNN did more for Trump than his entire campaign. Giving his supporters a voice, broadcasting every goddamn second he's talking into a microphone, not being hard enough on calling out bullshit. They are complicit in this result.

I guess there was a silent majority.

That kind of terrifies me.

I know it's not the end of the world but man.

There are enough people that voted for Trump to be president.

Man.

Honestly, would you have given Drumpf the same courtesy?

What the hell are you talking about? This isn't about a courtesy to another candidate, it's about enabling the peaceful transition of power, and taking the high ground for the American public.

FWIW, Fox News is talking about how absentee ballots are being counted in some of the close states, and their ballot expert guy there isn't going to call certain states tonight most likely.

He might have won over more women than Hilary considering she did horrible with them and probably wouldve got the votes that the third party candidates got tonight over which is over 4million i think

I think he would have won over a lot of people. I really think Bernie would have beat Trump a lot worse then Trump beat Hillary here. Sadly we'll never know cause Bernie isn't a spring chicken. I don't see him running again in 4 years.

Good one America. No wonder the world just laughs and laughs at you. Those who vote Trump should be made to visit some other countries for a while to see how a large portion of the rest of the world works.

Thank Christ I'm not in that country.

Odds are your country will feel our pain as well. The decision to Elect Trump and Brexit will have huge global ramifications over the next 4 years and for decades to come.

Stop with this. Sanders would not have built his platform on any of the values that would win over racists, homophobes, or xenophobes. He wouldn't have lied to blue collar workers that he'll get their jobs back. He wouldn't have been able to tap into a demographic who hates the institution the way Trump's base does.

Sanders beat the pants off of Clinton in all of those "safe" states he lost. He won overwhelmingly in white rural counties. The same places where Hillary lost overwhelmingly. his states constituency is largely white rural people, and he is familiar with their issues and struggles. I think it's foolish to think that he couldn't do better with them than Hillary.

I'm truly horrified. My sister, who has epilepsy, is freaking out because if Obamacare gets repealed she won't be able to afford the battery change in her brain implant. That brain implant is currently her only hope at having a life, because without it she has to be on so many pills it basically makes her a zombie. Not to mention the mental health side effects, which include depression and extreme mood swings. She can't work and can't drive without that brain implant, and without Obamacare she can't pay for the operation to replace the battery every ~2 years. I don't know what to say to her. I'm terrified for her.

Bernie would have won. I'm pretty sure of it now.

I like what one poster said here: "Bernie was the change people wanted. Trump is the change people are willing to accept".

Also Bernie, as far as I know, just doesn't have the baggage she does. I wasn't a Bernie supporter but I can't imagine with all of the stuff that Trump has said and all of the stuff that has come out on him that the results would be the same.

There's no issue with her waiting for all the votes to come in, especially when the American Electoral College needs to be changed. If she wins the popular vote, which there is a good chance of, then she can address in and hopefully give it a bit of momentum to be changed prior to the next election.

I've seen lots of people from other parts of the world rooting for Trump. I don't think you can blanket statement this. Sure, most of the world's leaders are probably not happy, but that just ties into the whole ruling elite are against Trump.

What has always baffled me is this Electoral College thingy. Why is it a thing in the first place? So about a 500-600 people decide the president?

The House and Senate. You gotta remember, Trump still doesn't actually align with the Republican platform all that well. I'm don't think they are going to get along to well after a few months.

Or maybe they will and it will be doomsday. Fuck if I know, I clearly don't understand anything surrounding Trump, I never thought he get this far.

The only major policy proposal that he'll have problems with is his anti-free trade agenda. And even there, the tea party loves his anti-trade message.

Well, he'll also be unable to change the first amendment like he wants, to be fair.

How ironic that Bernie was the most realistic candidate all along.

I don't think a lesson will be learned at all. The DNC and establishment will blame Bernie and third parties instead of themselves.

Neither are exclusively right or wrong here. Lotta factors, not the least of which being that it almost seems like more white people went to the polls today than any pundit or pollster even knew existed.

Suspect Trump will talk about their success but not outright claim victory; play that hes giving them a bit of time to prepare a concession speech. Or something along those lines.

How is democracy failing? This result is literally democracy, the people voted for this guy. The only undemocratic thing here is not accepting the results as valid. Democracy doesn't mean "it's only ok when my candidate wins!!" no matter how despisable the other might be.

Props to Danny. People need to call Moriarty out on his shit more often. Man's a fucking tool.

You people realize that President Obama literally said "The sun will rise tomorrow" in a video he released today?

Right?

I get if you don't agree with him but I keep seeing these responses and can't help but laugh.

Literally crying over this. Fucking shit, how can this be happening. Going to get Carl's Jr., and finish off the rest of the 24 beers in my fridge. Stay strong GAF... it's going to be a long 4 years, but if you are in any of the minority: I still love you.

This is like waking up to brexit again.

I'm intrigued who's gonna run for 2020, I mean this just sets a precedent for the future presidents.

Trump has won one of Maine’s electoral votes. That means he’ll be the first Republican to win an electoral vote in New England since 2000. He’s the first to win an electoral vote in any New England state other than New Hampshire since 1988.

A 70 year old woman decides to go to bed at two in the morning instead of waiting indefinitely for final results to be announced. Not a great look but also not shocking.

Shit man, sorry to see this. Hopefully they change their mind, restructurize or come up with something that will help her :(
