My brother wants to run for office and that's cool.

It's 80 degrees (F) in November in some places and we'll all die in 40 years because of that so that's not cool.

For the new thread.

I've been racking my Brain all day at who could run against Trump and beat him from the Left in 4 years. This election has proved that the American electorate by in large doesn't care about policy, or who is smarter, Who's more rational, or even who has the best ideals. The American people only want someone with charisma that will tell them the things they want to hear. Even if they themselves know its a lie.

The only name I can think of is John Steward. he's got the star power, the Charisma and as a bonus he's actually smart.

And she didn't even come close electorally like in 2000. This gives me hope, but it really it also shows how fucked democrats are across most of the country. I'm thinking about moving to the Pacific Northwest or East Coast after I finish school, but then I'm just contributing to the problem.

Which new tax could you pass to get money for our Rustbelt initiative? I don't really care if is this or something more else, but it seems that weed isn't as negative as it was before so it could work. However, I'm open to other ideas that are better, as I just want to start the conversation.

Optimistic: RBG, Kennedy, and Breyer make it to 2021. Trump's term is a disaster, Dems sweep 2020, giving us decent district maps, a moderate/liberal court, and a decent jumping-off point for a decade of progress/recovery.

Pessimistic: all 3 depart, each by their own means. The court shifts right, 7-2. Trump's term is decent, and wins re-election. Progressivism is judicially dead until the middle of the century. Earth and its inhabitants are fucked.

I really wish RBG and yes even Breyer would have realized the extent of the GOP's madness (they had to see it) and stepped down for the good of the nation before 2014 midterms. Then we'd have two more liberals on the court for MUCH longer.

Experience may become relevant again depending on how a Trump presidency unfolds. If it's a complete disaster or nothing is accomplished, in 2020 the people that gave Trump a chance and voted for him might be thinking Hillary would have been better (duh no shit).

The electorate moves away from the White House. If it wasn't this election it was going to be the next one that the Republicans one. Probably don't even have to change the platform to win in 2020 or 2024.

I didn't even think about the fact that Trump is about to get all of the information we have on Russia and all of our highest secrets. I hope to god that we were all just insanely paranoid about how much of a puppet Trump will be to Putin and I hope to god that congessional republicans actually stick to their principles (hahahahaha) and not allow us to go down that road and block and pro Putin measures.

I'm not convinced he even realizes his entire life is no longer in his control and is now 100% public.

Tweets like that don't appear to paint a picture of a man who even realizes the election is over.
