I'm at the impression where they try to score it as low as possible.

Like Dragon Quest Builders: It's an 84 in Metacritic but it's my current GOTY (so it's probably above 88 for me IMO).

84 is a fair score for DQB though. It's not a bad score for such a spin-off project at all. Still, I've seen no sign that FFXV can have worse story and characters than WoFF, so I don't believe FFXV can score lower than that. As long as FFXV can score above 85, GAF will be fine, and I honestly don't think it's that difficult to achieve, especially after taking in all the recent impressions.

Random query but did Shimomura finish the score before Tabata took over the project? I wonder how long she's been holding on to this magnificent OST.

I would also like a PM as to where in SoCal one can buy FFXV tonight, because I just called my usual mom-and-pop store that's known for breaking street dates and they're telling me tomorrow... which is still exciting, but... :p

I need someone to find a shop in Chicago selling this. I'm so envious of everyone getting it early before the holiday weekend :(.

Almost certainly not. I have to assume that many songs in the game are written to coincide with the story beats, many of which are not the same as they would have been under Versus, or are completely new. I would imagine there is work from Versus, but a lot stuff written since it became FFXV too.

I don't think Shimomura wrote a lot for Versus. That game was always like a projected 3-4 years away from completion until it became XV.

Perhaps because it's the second most commonly spoken language in the country? There are 45 million people who speak Spanish as a first or second language here in the United States.

Oh I know. I just mean that every Day One edition I have seen in the USA always has just Day One Edition on it, without the Spanish. That's all :D

Just like with other forms of media, music is usually one of the last things handled in production. I'm sure the majority of Shimomura's score was written in the last year.

Also, there's very, very, very, very little story in the chapters I played. The last two chapters I played, while were the peaks of my playtime, game-play wise, were also basically a filler arc. The game is not subtle at all in its efforts to keep me away from the next story beat, so I hope it's something substantial. Till now, there's no story in the game beyond the basic premise that we've known for more than 8 years now.

Most of the cutscenes feels like a PSP game cutscenes. They're clearly rushed, and not well-directed.

Some of the recently rewritten lines don't have it's appropriate subtitles in the game yet. For example, the new Prompto line that replaced "WE'LL PLAY HIDE AND SEEK WITH HIM".

Side-quests are mostly Xenoblad-y, but that was to be expected. There's some legitimately great side-content though, in form of dungeons, hunts, and optional bosses.

So, yeah, that's my take on the game for now. It's a very good game, great even. I'm having a blast. Dethroned Dark Souls III as my game of the year. It has best dungeons in the series, great combat, fantastic monster gallery, beautiful world to explore, likeable characters, and phenomenal music. I just hope the story ramps up in the next act, because at the moment, it's a rushed, filler-y, badly presented mess.

So it's turning out to be exactly what the promotion for the game suggested. So much for "they're just hiding all of the story because they don't want to show spoilers."

Oi, if he's been playing through the parts shown in previews, then obviously it's going to feel... exactly like the previews?

Also, paradoxically, we're not going to be discussing anything further than ch5 in this thread since it -is- meant to be a non-spoiler performance/gameplay discussion thread. Plenty of people don't want to see anything past ch5. There's a spoiler thread for that.

Not saying your conclusion is or isn't warranted, but that it's kind of premature and you're basically jumping at every opportunity to be vindicated.

I didn't realize that discussion of the density and presence of the story was spoiler territory.

I guess I deserve to be called out for linking my own thread, but I'd prefer not to be vindicated. Or at least experience a more fulfilling "second half" or something along those lines.

It's a slippery slope, because when we start discussing it, one side (either one) asks 'o yea, why do you think so', and the other side either has to tread in very broad strokes or drop more examples that lead further and further down that path until we *are* discussing specific set-pieces.

I'm not saying it's a no-no discussion. I'm saying that right now, just a week from launch, there's no harm in waiting a week and then having a discussion then. It's a good topic to have.

edit:
And yeah, for clarity I'm not asking you to go into the spoiler thread, heh.

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.
Wish my country will break the release date now. :<

Anyone got it in Florida?

Goddammit Tabata release the game already. Thanksgiving break is coming!

You can still do all that "marketing" for the remainder of the year.

I'm almost certain now that it's in my area somewhere, but I ordered the steelbook, so I'm just gonna wait for that lol. Plus, Prime Savings.

Please tell me there is more landmass hidden in the south underneath the clouds. :/
Otherwise the Niflheim Empire would be a pretty meager empire, lol. No wonder they have their eyes on Lucis, the only really big landmass of the earth.

I think the west side is missing in that img.
That map appears in the loading screen, in the beginning of the 'second part'.
