Ellie is the main playable character in The Last of Us: Part II

Crossing Eden

Hello, my name is Yves Guillemot, Vivendi S.A.'s Employee of the Month!
RIP Joel. Gonna be waiting on that death scene like:

Why, just because you're playing as Ellie, do people think this is because Joel gets murked? You can pass a torch without getting murdered. Ellie's emotional life ain't arranged around Joel. There are a dozen other things that could drive her to murdering people.

Honestly, not a fan of this decision, but it was obvious they were heading that way. I hope they don't make her too stealthy, since Joel's brutal, gritty approach was the most fun thing about TLOU's combat. I didn't enjoy Winter's gameplay solely for this reason.

Ellie being the main character is the best part of this.

Progressive main character representation FTW. First Clem being a badass older girl and now Ellie? Although they were both badass when they were younger too make no mistake

I hope joel dies though, cause it would be good emotional weight.

What can piss Ellie off enough to want to kill people?

Obviously someone died, we're just not sure who yet. Could be Joel, hell, could be Ellie's 2 year old for all we know.

Maybe old man Joel will follow you around during gameplay all impervious to damage. Like he'll have his walker, respirator, and stick just berating you and shit when you fail.

And of course he'll turn out be a figment of Ellie's imagination.

Troy Baker is gonna be at the panel alongside Ellie's VA, so Joel's probably gonna be alive for most of the game (if not all of it). That is, unless they focus a lot on flashbacks before Joel gets killed (if he does die here).

Incredibly Naive
So either Joel dies or stays behind... Regardless the dynamic of working together as a team of those 2 is dead and that sucks.

*sigh*

I don't like Ellie and playing as her will be unbearable for me.

What about those of us that liked playing as Joel?!?

Hype deflated 100%

I think that is kind of cool. We had our time with Joel in part 1, now we move on to Ellie in part 2. Winter was my favorite section from 1.

What if Joel is already dead and that scene was her hallucinating his appearance and telling him what she's going to do?

Going to be funny when Ellie dies in the first 10 min and you play as Joel hating not having protected her.

Power armor!

I liked Winter as a change of pace late into the game, but I doubt it'll play completely like that in this one.

Honestly, I don't want Joel to die and be this 'ghost' character Ellie talks to on and off. That would be incredibly cliched. Also, it would be similar to Bioshock Burial at Sea.

The fact that you play Ellie, a character who acts differently compared to Joel and also who will probably play differently since she's smaller and quicker, that adds a new dynamic to the game. Now we'll probably have more scenes similar to David and Winter rather than Joel being the dominating one all the way through. That gives both games their own identity rather than us playing Joel again and it being the same as before except he's older and calmer.

Smart idea I'd say.

A main female lead on a AAA game. Oh the comments will be delicious.

EDIT: People seem to be misinterpreting my post.

There will be lots of crying about the fact that its a female lead, is what I meant. I don't get it either, but there will.

When has that been remotely true in like the last 10 years?

I can see it being like a certain Masters of Horror episode:

The flashbacks will show Joel becoming more guilt-ridden, paranoid, and possibly deranged as the years go on, and Ellie ends up using having to escape from and kill him using the skills he taught her. Or maybe he just gets infected whatever.

Especially on GAF. I mean hey you might find one or two shitposts on YT, but that is YT. Will probably just be a salty non PS4 owner.

As I said I don't know anyone who loves TLoU that has a problem with Ellie.
