Yakuza 6 is coming to the west

Thanks. I also still have my PS3, so I could play 4 as well since that's also a good starting point if that OP is correct.

4 -> 5 -> 0 -> Kiwami -> 6 would be amazing if you can pull it off. 4 is the best entry point into the series if you're not starting straight up from the beginning. 0 is the second best.

this is a dream, considering i used to wake up every morning and check if yakuza 5 was being localized (did this for three years lol)

i gave up hope for this franchise in the west....

Yakuza games are closed stories so no need to be pedantic about playing every single one in chronological order, you can start with 0, go to Kiwami and jump straight to 6 without being left in the dark.

Though it wouldn't hurt watching summaries on YT from other games, especially from Y2 because it was epic.

playing 5 without having played 4 is a terrible idea tho

I'm so glad they're bringing both titles to EU/USA, been wanting to get into the franchise for a while and 2017 is gonna be awesome in that sense

Will I miss substantial stuff story-wise if my first game is 0? I don't have access to a PS2/PS3 so no chance I can play any of the previous titles

My planning is going 0 > Kiwami > 6, will I be okay?

The list is getting longer and longer. Still on Yakuza 4 and now I can look forward to 5,0,6 and Kiwami. God is real.

I get so excited every time one of these games gets announced.

After the long and mostly hopeless wait for Yakuza 5, I learned to never, ever take these games for granted. Each one gets savored like it's going to be the last one released in the west ever.

The fact that we have THREE of these coming out in the next year and a half is a damn miracle.

And playing 6 without playing 5 first is also a bad idea, since the very first cut scene on 6 starts off right where 5 left off (ok, it does have a recap of the final scenes of 5, but it's still not the best idea to skip 5 entirely).

Oh YES!

I've never played a Yakuza game before, but I'm starting next with your Yakuza 0 and now Kiwami (remake of 1). I'll be missing out on 2/3/4/5, though, so I'll probably need to find some way to play them before I start 6.

I really wish they'd put all of the games up on PSN so I can download them on my PS4. My PS2/PS3 are no longer connected to my TV. Not only that, I have a 60GB PS3, so I don't really have the space to even install Yakuza 5 (digital-only). I do own Yakuza 4 already, but I never got around to playing it since I wanted to play the first three before I did but never got around to it, It's nice that they're releasing/remaking Yakuza 1, so I guess that's a start.

Upgrading the PS3's HDD is trivial, if you need any guidance just let us know.

Is this real world?! Freaking Day 0 on both, double dipping like no tomorrow. Great PSX it seems. I am just catching up with news and 2017 is going to be amazing with announcements coming left and right.

For Yakuza starting point, I would go with 3 or play Zero, Kiwami and then in order. However I loved 3 and 4-5 take away from the focus of Dragon of Dojima, the main man Kiryu Kazuma.

2018 is a while away, but it's obviously terrific that they're taking the time to localize Yakuza 6. It never feels like a sure thing with these games. Would've been a shame, 6 looks outstandingly ridiculous.

The only downside to this is the fact that there are like a billion good starting points and people get confused. I really hope Yakuza 6 has a reminiscence mode. That'll simplify everything.

Also, I really hope there aren't any delays for Kiwami and 6. They're all timed so perfectly.

Yeah, I've been tempted to do it, but the system itself is find of failing (flickers every once in a while while playing) so I'm not sure how much life it has left in it. If it ever does die completely, I'll be grabbing a PS3 slim to replace it (with a larger default HDD), so if I upgraded the HDD in my current PS3 now it has the potential to be wasted (although I could always use the HDD in something else, I guess).

I don't use my PS3 for anything else right now, so I guess I could just delete everything on it (aside from my save files, of course) and see if that would be enough to install Yakuza 5 on it.

Also, checking my backlog, apparently I do have Yakuza 3 as well. So that makes Yakuza 3/Yakuza 4 being currently owned, with 0 on pre-order (and will pre-order Kiwami/6 as well). That only leaves Yakuza 2 and Yakuza 5.

This is great news, I had written off Kiwami coming to the west and I'm glad to see it show up in 2017. Then 6 in early 2018 means less than a years wait between releases.

The next 18 months or so is actually going to be Yakuza heavy. Which seams like a weird proposition, I'm used to worried that these games are coming out at all and now there are three in less than 18 months?

I don't think its ever had a better shot at converting new consumers into fans. Its been so long since the botched introduction in the west and we are essentially getting two games that could be considered the beginning of the series followed up with a very pretty looking sequel.

I also think if this barrage doesn't move the needle significantly on the series popularity and sales in the west we will have our answer to the question "is this series niche".

Can't imagine a delay happening like it did with 5, almost SEGA project at the time was delayed because of the relocation from San Fran to LA. Zero is taking time because they're making new translated assets aside from just sticking subtitles.

Oh ok. I was unaware of that. Makes sense.

Fucking tears... PS4 purchase redeemed.

And I'm day 1 for zero in that case.

I'm happy with early 2018. They've nicely spaced apart each title and gives me time to finish other big games like FFXV and Persona 5.

Yup, early '18 is perfect for me. Gives time for 0 and Kiwami
as well as finishing Y5
as well as the various other insane '17 heavy-hitters (e.g. Zelda). I'm completely fine with this release schedule. Three Yakuza games in one year... That's so damn good.

I would not be surprised if this was the best game announced at PSX.

I have no idea how this series keeps getting greenlit. I'm sure it's not selling six figures, but bless them, they keep giving it to us anyway.

Haha I have no idea how someone can think like that...

- its a Yakuza game. Set in the 80's. THE 80'S...
- Kiryu and Majima are main characters... MAJIMA
- its Tokyo... IN THE FUCKING 80'S
- its Yakuza.

I'm almost more hyped for Yakuza 0 than 6, and I'm so so happy that we have a good 2-3 years of constant Yakuza content.
