The Last Guardian early copy impressions thread

Wow, Y2kev's impressions have really sold me on getting this game day one. I was always going to get it, but I wasn't sure if it would be at launch. I will now.

Gonna be taking advantage of that b2g1 at Best Buy.

Played some Ico today for the first time in years, and it... Feels really nice? I like the simplicity and the unusual (for today) camera angles.

I'll actually be quite happy if TLG controls like this. I especially like the way the camera can zoom in on subjects as needed, and the weighty feel to movement.

Judging by these impressions, it seems this game is going to be very good- well, besides the performance issues.

Curious to see how it reviews. I'm thinking 87 MC.

Still going to stick to my 79-83 MC prediction, although I must admit I am leaning much more to the upper limit of that range after all the positive impressions here and especially that Guardian GOTY article. Have to still take into account that Simon Parkin tends to appreciate the more artsy type of game experience than the average reviewer.
I'm buying this game regardless of reviews unless of course it gets really bad reviews AND the consensus here also turns out be meh after release.

Yes, please give me puzzles that will get me stuck.

Thank you for these kinds of games. I am so tired of puzzles in adventure games where the instructions are laid out in front of you.

Hail, peons, for I have come as ambassador from the great and bountiful Blueberry Butt Explosion
Man, I don't know if I'll be able to play through TLG. Animal feels ruin me emotionally.

Ended up finishing it without help. Stunningly beautiful. I don't want to spoil for you guys. Maybe I'll write more but I think it could color your expectations and I want you all to have the same freshness I got. I am so happy this finally came out.

I actually enjoy hearing things like this. I don't want the game to get as obtuse or frustrating as old school adventure game puzzles could get but I also don't like puzzles that take absolutely no critical thinking at all *cough cough* Uncharted *cough cough*

Ya can't say I think this is hard. In the entire game there was a single difficult puzzle but I still think that was due to Trico's spacing issues he has in some level locations versus anything else and that insanely close to the very end with him well trained.
I didn't really feel like it was that kind of game anyway. Though the organic animation and level structure boggled a couple peoples minds who were over as some solutions don't have a clear straight line or something you can just go "oh I get it, go from here to here to here"

Lord Error

Insane For Sony
It has an ecosystem of 35+ different species of predators and prey that all interact within and without their species independent of you, can adapt to changes in the environment and the behavior of other species, whose behavior is depending on their own dynamic personality and body types, with some species that can work together in packs (completely with alphas that command the others)

The way Trico is supposed to become more friendly to you if you're nice to it? Every species has that, for every other individual animal and the player, and it can shift depending on your actions. Be nice, save an animal from predators, feed it, etc., and it could become an ally that protects you and doesn't act aggressive, even one of your natural predator. One species is intelligent and roams in packs, playing with each other and sharing tools, and can spread one's feeling about you to the entirety of the pack, so help them out and they'll eventually let you roam with their pack rather than being nervous and aggressive around you.
Sorry for the late reply (I'm being very careful looking through this thread, lol). OK that is very impressive, even though I have to say the the trailers and gameplay videos don't really communicate this kind of ecosystem dynamics at all. I actually don't expect to see this kind of thing all that much if at all from TLG - where I think this game has no equal is something I'd describe as creature movement AI. From all the videos I've seen, Trico seems to know what to do in the environment he finds himself in, plant feet where they are supposed to go without any painfully obvious sliding or clipping through everything. That's what I said is something really difficult to pull off in 3D space, with a creature that doesn't have completely pre-programmed movement path. I don't know any other game that does this anywhere close as well as this. Second best I think is probably FFXV, where the big creatures are supposed to be able to do this kind of thing (as per their tech demo slides) but it still looks laughably bad in comparison.
