The Nintendo GameCube Appreciation and Collecting Thread.

guys is it me or did prices for the usual rarities of the NGC go up in the last half a year or so?

I was bored so checked prices for Paper Mario: TTYD, Metal Gear Twin Snakes, Skies of Arcadia and Fire Emblem Path of Radiance and they appeared pricier than before to me

any of those in mint/complete condition is way above 50 bucks.

usually during the holidays everything goes up in price , even stuff like retro games
people like to gift retro stuff , I've done it in the past

hmmm I should sell my gamecube games because this shit takes a lot of space, the backups though plus a pokemon XD platinum console

I got a couple of 1019s last year, new from Amazon. Any way of knowing if they're fake?

out of my haul from last week,

i grabbed these two gamecube titles yesterday =)

Nice. I got Symphonia pretty cheap from a Gaffer. I got my copy of Arcadia Legends new and pretty cheap a couple years after it came out. I had it sealed for a few years and still haven't played it! It's still practically new but I fully intend to play it one of these days! I didn't buy it just to have on a shelf.

Sounds like me. I have had both of these games for years, but still havent played any of them. One day though!

I for the life of me still cant understand why Nintendo disabled the 480p signal in the PAL territory. Especially since most Game cubes already had the digital AV out.

I am at least glad that the Gamecube allowed for the option to chose between 50hz/60hz. The dark ages for gaming on a Nintendo system were at the very least finally over in Europe. I guess it just so frustrating how Nintendo had, well still has this inconsistency in its treating different regions for seemingly no reason at all.

because basically 0-1% of contemporary PAL TVs supported PS, so they used the same software switch for 50/60hz.

I mean it sucked later once digital TV and fixed pixel HD displays all used pro scan as standard and resolutions were standardised internationally. But at the time it was not something the market demanded or could even use.

99% of contemporary users would have connected the console via composite.

Not One. Fourteen fake cards across amazon and ebay from fourteen different sellers. Years ago (08 or 09) I bought two cards from amazon and they were also fake.
Why did you buy 14?

I'm surprised fakes are common but I guess maybe I shouldn't be. I was able to snag a new in box OEM real GC->GBA Link Cable recently for like $10 so I just assumed all GC accessories (except the component cable) are dirt cheap.

It's getting close to being 3 generations old (in my term meaning a 3rd generation since then has released IE the Switch). That's when the prices of things really start to skyrocket. You're having people who grew up with the GC as their first or second console that are now hitting the age where they have disposable income and looking to buy back some GC games they loved.

I got rid of a few crap games that were in my collection over the weekend. Let's see, they were: American Chopper 2, Nicktoons Unite!, Ice Age Meltdown, True Crime L.A. They'll be donated to my church for their yard sale.

I think this leaves me with about 35 games so it's manageable and I do have plenty of space.

Open the card and post a photo of what is inside.

I opened one up and it's fake like the one in this video :|

My official 1019 card has chips inside. I read the fake ones have glob tops. This video should give a look at what a fake looks like:

Don't care that it was a year ago... I'm getting my money back. The order was fulfilled by Amazon which means they're directly involved in shipping out fake goods to customers.

I initially bought four to transfer all my old data and get rid of my old third party cards. I then bought a few more for my friend and we noticed that some of them were DOA so we opened them up and noticed they were fake and returned them while also buying more from different sellers hoping we could get at least a few real ones. All fake.

The worst thing is that a bunch of the sellers said to just throw them away instead of returning them...They know they are fake.

Nice pickups! GC RE3 is the only US version that lets you boot the heads off of zombies.

hey all i grabbed this on the way to dinner:

as i shared in a prior post, i really missed the boat during gamecube days and never played any of the beloved nintendo titles (only survival horror, Eternal Darkness and Resident Evil gamecube exclusive titles) so i'm going to try them years later. i still need to pop in Zelda Twilight and the cell shaded one (forgot the name but i have both)

The cel shaded one being Wind Waker - if I may offer some advice, play Wind Waker HD on on Wii U instead. The tweaks they made really make it a much more enjoyable game. I quit on the Gamecube version because the sailing was such a drag, but the Wii U version wound up being my favourite Zelda ever.

The GC version is still great but yeah the sailing especially in the latter half can be a drag. It's surprising how much an improvement the swift sail in the Wii U version ended up being.

I can't play the HD remakes of Wind Waker or Twilight Princess. They altered the camera controls, and none of the options are right. Only Nintendo can add options and exclude the original control settings, which were perfect (for me).

Got a few people to open their recent(2-4 years) 251 cards. Fake as well. All from amazon. I wonder how widespread these really are.

WWHD's camera works the same.

I could tell the one that came to me was fake thanks to the posted video about the cards. Maybe I should buy used? Damn. I'd like to play some of my GameCube games again sometime soon.

I know this is not a popular opinion, but i fucking loathe that they dont even give me THE OPTION to use motion controls for sword in Twilight Princess HD. Made the game a nobuy for me, as i really enjoyed it back in the day and wanted to play it that way again.

Out of all things you could legitimately want the motion stuff back for in TPHD, it's the sword?!

I know a lot of people didnt care for it, but I loved it back in the day and would at least wanted to have had the option to use it. It would have costed Nintendo absolutely nothing to include. But yeah, I loved motion for everything, and thankfully some motion controls were included in the remake.

Damn, based on the recent posts of this thread I found out my 1019 I ordered just over a year ago was fake. I should have figured the availability and pricing were too good to be true.

Anyone know if these bootlegs eat saves? I'll probably copy mine back to my old cards just in case. Also thinking about going to my local reputable indie game store and seeing if I can get the real deal; I'd like to play some gamecube over the holidays without stressing about this.

I am not sure to be honest. I've talked to people who used fake cards for years without issues. I am guessing they are pretty cheap to produce and not really low quality. I remember some time ago a bunch of 1019 cards were going bad and some people online thought it was attributed to fake memory cards but it turned out to be a issue with the wii hardware corrupting them.

I have a Nyko with that blob and a Toshiba chip I was recently given. Seems to work fine. Yea they are fake / 3rd party but perhaps not all of them are junk. Is it possible to save to SD via some sort of homebrew yet? I know the Wii allows it.

Did the real ones also come in blister packs in the US? In Europe they used cardboard boxes identical in size to GB/GBC/GBA boxes, wrapped in shrink-wrap and with the Nintendo branded tear open seal.
I bought one when it launched in Canada and yes it did.

Ah ok. Then there goes that way of proving their authenticity. Looking at the video these seem like exceptionally well made fakes. You can't really tell unless you look at the chips. I guess we'll start seeing more and more of that as we go forward.

All the legit cards I purchased years ago did not have blister packs. They had a weird large plastic shell that you pulled apart.

I have a white 1019 card I got around the Wii launch. It definitely came in a blister pack, probably still have the box somewhere at my parents' house.

To be precise it was something like this

Edit: bought the 59, 251 and 1019 cards at each of their respective launches. They all had that pakaging.

Forgot i had these, found them in a drawer along with my famicom ones. Some cool gamecube merchandise. The cibe & the pad have built in lcd clocks the console one been under the lid which you can open with the eject button, the batteries are long dead though. The games are actually erasers, comes in a tiny replica case with a rubber disk, the detail on the boxes is pretty much 100% accurate.

I can't stand the shape and size of Japanese games, and it blew my mind when I grabbed Naruto Ninja Taisen 4 a few months ago. It destroys the consistency of what I had on my shelf so I'm not a fan.

I'm just about to give up on Super Monkey Ball on Expert. I think I got to the twelfth level and needed to lie down to calm my nerves lol. I can't imagine what kind of mental zen you need to achieve to reach level 50.
