NeoGAF Votes: Most Anticipated Games of 2017

1. Night in the Woods: Played and liked both of the teasers so as long as full game keeps that level of quality this is gonna be great.
2. Toryansé: Have been anticipating this for a while now. Seems to have changed a bit since its initial concept. I really like the visual style.
3. Rain World: Looks gorgeous, especially the way things move.
4. Empathy: This sounds like something that'd be right up my alley.

John Harker

Definitely doesn't make things up as he goes along.
oh yeah? well i have two games that you don't know about that i'd put on my list.

My mystery box is bigger than your mystery box, nannie nannie poo poo!

Then again, sometimes I like weird shit (particularly stuff that I don't work on or with) so who knows If anyone else will care.

1. Horizon zero dawn: I already have the collector's edition preordered for 78 bucks from best buy. Could not say no. My most anticipated game by far.

2. Legend of Zelda botw: I love zelda, and bought the 30th amiibos and getting the wolf amiibo for the game.

3. God of war: didn't think I'd say this but that reveal made me want this more than I have since I first played the first game way back when.

4. Days end: I love the tech used in this and it seems like a fun open world game that will look great on a pro.

5. Nier automata: I didn't play the first and not a huge fan of platinum but this looks amazing.

6. South park fractured but whole: it's south park and one of my favirile cartoons. If there was a futrams game I would be day one on that as number 1 game ever.

7. Gravity rush 2: I didn't finish the first on vita but this sequel looks impressive to me.

8. Far point/vr in general: this game could be my next halo love. I hope the gun is good and paves the way for more immersive games on psvr.

9. Yooka layle: I didn't play bango but this looks cute.

10. There are too many other games to list anymore but I will just put psvr again because not much information on next year yet.

1. TLOZ: Breath of the Wild - realistically, it'll probably be the only game I play next year. I don't have much time to play games at the moment so I just choose the one that looks the best.

With so many games not set in stone, and the Nintendo event not till January, I'm finding it difficult to make a list of 10. At least, 10 that I'm genuinely 100% hyped for. It's tricky to have rules allow anything other than confirmed games for a single year though. Regardless, there are stil some gems confirmed.

1: Horizon: Zero Dawn
2: Mass Effect: Andromeda
3: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
4: Red Dead Redemption 2
5: Halo Wars 2
6: For Honor
7: Prey
8: Resident Evil 7
9: South Park: Fractured But Whole
10: Cuphead

(List subject to change)

Confirmed game wise.. there's a tonne coming in Feb/March. Big ones too. and the Switch is dropping with whatever launch titles, it's gonna be a busy first half next year :|

1. Persona 5 : been anticipating this since 2014!!!!
2. Uncharted: Lost Legacy : love uncharted and uncharted 4 was awesome so can't wait to dig in for some more with chloe!!
3. Horizon: Zero Dawn : cautiously optimistic about this one even though i am not a big open world game fan. hope it is not littered with meaningless side quests and is an enjoyable 20-30 hour experience
4. Cosmic star heroine : love turn based games and this looks very cool
5. Danganronpa v3 : I loved the first one and played half of the second one and need to go back and finish it but these games are a lot of fun and i am looking forward to the new one
6. Ni no Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom : always wanted to play the first one and never got a chance but this is something i think i would like.
7. Nier Automota : Played the demo and it was fun so looking forward to see how long my interest will hold once i get the full game but seems cool
8. Mass Effect Andromeda : played a little bit of mass effect 1 to try and catch up before mass effect 3 and liked what i played but stopped due to time constraints but this being a new start gives me a chance to get invested from the beginning.
9. Red Dead Redemption 2 : not a fan of the setting but i always fall for the rockstar hype and hopefully it will grab my attention unlike the first rdr. also watching how the story played out in the first game gives me motivation to try again as i love a good story in games
10. Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy : Never really played these games but being a playstation/naughty dog fan i feel i should give these a shot especially hearing they are well made and remain faithful to the originals

Honestly, outside the top 5 the rest are just fillers that i will probably buy. The 5 other games i want to put on the list are destiny 2, god of war, days gone, spider-man, and dragon quest 11 and i feel at least 3 of these are going to hit 2017. i am sure death stranding and tlou 2 are 2018/2019 so i wouldn't put those but the rest could have been allowed since they have a somewhat decent chance but gotta follow them rules i guess :)

1. Horizon zero dawn: robo Dinos+ female protagonist.
2. Mass effect: andromeda: next title in my favorite trilogy of last gen.
3. Red dead redemption 2: the only rockstar game I've ever loved besides the warriors gets a sequel. Sign me up.
4. Destiny 2: The original is my second favorite game of this gen so far I know it'll sink hundreds of hours into its sequel
5. South Park: The fractured but whole: I enjoyed the last one but hated the two member party. This one fixes that and adds in FF tactics like game play.
6.For Honor: Ima sucker for well designed complicated to master but simple to learn combat. So much detail and thought put into this game.
7. Persona 5: I've never played one before but the gameplay footage looks amazing.
8. FF 12 Remaster: I was lukewarm on the game when I played it at release but I'm hyped for the job system.
9. Nier Automata: Looks fucking crazy good.
10. Kingdom Hearts 1.5 +2.5 remix collection: Dat Final Form tho!!

Glancing at the lists it seems it will go down between Persona 5 and Zelda with Horizon and Mass Effect in the mix.

  1. Mass Effect Andromeda (ME2 was my GOTG last gen)
  2. Zelda: Breath of the Wild
(3 years of "most anticipated" voting, now I can finally vote for this as I plan on getting a Switch)
  3. Red Dead Redemption 2 (Rockstar open world, that attention to detail and time period)
  4. Ni No Kuni 2
  • The Last of Us Part 2
    (LOL ok maybe not)
That's all I can think of for now, the other big games are pretty much equal for me. Horizon would be there but we have seen so much already just release the damn game (Zelda is the same, but as I said I haven't been paying too much attention for 3 years as I didn't have a Wii U). Plus some Switch stuff which is not officially confirmed.

1. Mass Effect: Andromeda
Well, it's Mass Effect. That is quite honestly enough for me to want to check it out, but in this case I'm digging the premise especially. Also, the return of the Mako. Fako*.

2. Horizon: Zero Dawn
Even though I'm still weary of Open World Fatigue, this protagonist and setting look incredible.

3. Persona 5
I've watched the Giant Bomb Endurance Run of Persona 4 way back when and now I want to play a Persona game (Tokyo Mirage Sessions was a decent primer for that I feel.)

4. South Park: The Fractured But Whole
Even if this turns out to be just more South Park: TSOT, I'm completely fine with that.

5. Destiny 2
Loved the OG Destiny, so I can't wait to see what they'll do unshackled from last gen hardware and hopefully with a better production pipeline.

6. Ace Combat 7
I've been a fan of the arcade-y feel of these games since the first one, I could really go for another right about now.

7. Yakuza 0
This seems like a good spot to jump into the series.

1: Mass Effect Andromeda: The first three are high on my list of all time favorite games and I'm anxious to see where the series goes. I love what I've seen so far.

2. Horizon Zero Dawn: This looks incredible graphically, I love the setting and concept and just hope the open world isn't too much of a Ubisoft like iconfest.

3. The Legend of Zelda-Breath of the Wild: I want to be more excited for this as I love the series, it I'm lukewarm on the art style and what I've seen so far. I'm also worried, as someone getting fatigued on open worlds in general, that Nintendo can make a compelling open world given how bland the over world is in past 3D Zeldas. It's only this high as I'm holding out hope they'll prove me wrong and that I'm just not terribly excited for much next year right now.

4. South Park- The Fractured but Whole: Enjoyed the first. Not terribly excited, but again feel 2017 is looking kind of bland so far.

5. Destiny 2: Cautiously optimistic they'll tell more of a story and have more content that doesn't involve replaying boring missions, strikes etc. over and over.

So yeah, 2017 is looking more like a backlog catching up year for me unless unannounced games and new IP end up catching my eye. Too many sequels to series/games I don't really care for with things like RE7, RDR, Shemue, Persona etc.

Damn, putting them in order is hard. Not even convinced about the order I chose but here I go:

1. Ni Oh : The souls franchise is easily my favorite of all time. Over these past few years several games have attempted to replicate it but I feel like none of them comes even close, mostly because I feel like they focus too much on replicating the Souls formula instead of taking inspiration from it to create something unique. And here comes Ni Oh, a game that takes many of the elements I love about the souls franchise but isn't afraid to be its own thing. Based on severa hours with the alpha and Beta, Ni Oh has it's own unique world, story and take on combat, while retaining the good level design, exciting combat and challenge I've come to love from the souls franchise.
From Software is a Japanese company but in many ways their games have a lot of western influence. Ni Oh feels like a more japanese take on the souls concept and I'm loving it

2. Nier Automata : Everyone likes to talk about their games of dreams. Stuff like FFVII Remake, Half Life 3 or Shenmue 3.
Nier Automata goes beyond that for me, it's a game I didn't even bother dreaming about because in my eyes it didn't even have a chance of ever getting a sequel. The original got both bad sales and bad reviews and that's enough to kill basically any franchise.
But here we are, not only is there a new Nier comming, it's being developed by probably the best action game developer out there.
Something with the story, art direction and music of Nier and the combat of a Platinum developed game is one of the most exiting concepts to come out of this generation

3. Gravity Rush 2 : The original game was a great yet flawed experience. The world is unique and interesting, the gravity shifting mechanic is one of my favorite ways to get around an open environment in any game, and the music and art direction were top tier. Yet it felt limtied in scope partially because of the hardware it was made for and because it had to be ready for launch (or the launch window, don't remember). The Story, while interesting, felt more concerned about building up mysteries to hype up a sequel instead of telling a worthwhile story
So now comes the Sequel and from what I've seen, it seems to build on everything that made the original great while fixing many of the issues I had with it. Being build from the ground up for Ps4 means that in terms of scale, scope and visual presentations it's a tier above the first one, and it looks like we will be getting the payoff for many of the plot elements the first game spent so much time building.
This one is going to be amazing, the type of unique Japanese game that rarely gets the AAA budget anymore.

4. Yakuza 0 : Yakuza is one of my favorite franchises on Playstation and I miss it a lot. Sadly, I missed Yakuza 5 as by the time it came out I had already sold my Ps3, so I'm eager to go back to it. Can't way to go back to the streets of japan, fighting thugs, engaging in ridiculous side activitives and enjoying the unique mix of martal arts action, mafia intrigue and telenovela drama I've come to expect form the plot of these games

5. Persona 5 : I have to be honest, when it comes to the Shin Megami Tensei franchise I vastly preffer the mainline franchise over the Persona franchise. The life and dating simulator apsect of it does little for me.
And Yukiko is te better waifu anyway
Yet still, both games I've played (3 and 4) have offered a fun and interesting main plot with enjoyable characters and combat.
From what I've seen, this entry in particular is raising the bar in terms of presentation and it looks like a lot of work has been dedicated to the dungeons, on of the weakes aspects of the previous games. So I'm really hyped for this

6. For Honor : Over the years I've come to be really frustrated by Ubisoft games. It's like the core ideas are great and in terms of production values they are one of the best studios out there, but their games are held back by terrible open world design with boring objectives, towers, etc. It's a real shame because when they move away from their terrible open world their games are amazing, Valiant Hearts is one of my favorite smaller titles of the gen and Rayman is, IMO, just as good as what Nintendo is making in terms of platformers, and while not my style, I hear that the new Rainbow Six is a solid multiplaye game.
So here comes another game that's very unlike Ubisoft. It's multiplayer centric and has a more linear single player component, and it looks amazing. The combat has been praised by pretty much every preview I've read, the presentation is amazing and... come on, it's samurai vs knights vs vikings, it doesn't get much cooler than that
I also love non traditional multiplayer. I enjoye Shooters, racers and mobas as much as anyone, but I love when games try to take multiplayer in a different direction. I loved the Multiplayer in AC: Brotherhood and I even think that while badly excecuted, the multiplayer in God of War was an interesting idea (it just needed better balancing and much less lag).

7. Zelda Breath of the Wild : Zelda for me is synonym with a solid single player game. I know this franchise and I know the talent at Nintendo so I have no doubt this will be a great game filled with solid gameplay, enjoyable dungeons and great art/music.
I'm a bit worried about the open world aspect of it (can't think of a single game in gaming history that has been better for going open world) but I have faith in Nintendo. This game has been worked on for a long time by some of the most talented people in the industry, surely it will elevate its open world past the likes of Skyrim or every Ubisoft Game

1. Horizon Zero Dawn: Robot Dinosaurs... But for real this is probably the most interesting game I've ever seen between the world, story, and the gameplay I couldn't be more excited for this game.

2. Red Dead Redemption 2: I'm not really a big fan of GTA games but the old western setting of the Red Dead games is one of my favorites and rockstar world building is always on point.

3. Mass Effect Andromeda: Mass Effect 2 is one of my favorite games all time and I've been patiently awaiting a new entry to this series.

4. Resident Evil 7: I understand the complaints of the new direction this series is heading but I think they are absolutely ridiculous. They're returning to form with making RE about horror again and it's crazy to think that they would go back to gameplay like pre RE4. AND as much as I love RE4 and tolerate RE5 action oriented gameplay would not work either.

5. Nioh: A souls like game set in feudal Japan , what else needs to be said. Loved the demo, can't wait for the game.

6. Gravity Rush 2: Loved the first one I even platinumed it and this just looks like more Gravity Rush.

7. Nier: The first game had some incredible world building and music but weak gameplay, so if this game can deliver the same quality of world building and music with good platinum gameplay it has potential of being GOTY

8. Persona 5: the most stylish game I've ever seen

9. Marvel vs Capcom Infinite: ITS MAHVEL TIME BABY ( if black panther is announced as a character this game becomes number 1)

10. Sonic Mania: I love classic sonic and I'm being cautiously optimistic about this game they could finally do it I'm just going they don't fuck it up

Honorable mentions

Legend of Zelda BOW : I'm still not sure if I want to get a switch or not and what they've shown of this game has yet to grab my attention yet im really hoping it does though

1. The Legend Of Zelda Breath of the Wild : I'm looking forward to see what is up Nintendo's sleeves this time around. From all the gameplay we've gotten thus far, I think there is more than enough reasons to be plenty excited.

2. Yooka-Laylee : It's familiar, but still new. The gang is back and with Grant Kirkhope's fantastic tunes, I think Yooka-Laylee will be the platformer greatness we've all come to love and miss.

3. Red Dead Redemption 2 : It's about time, saddle in, ride 'yer horse and shoot them foes. We're back, in the good ol' west. Thank you Rockstar.

4. A Hat in Time : Oh, yes. I had forgotten everything about this game, until the third trailer just showed up. This and Yooka-Laylee are gonna is gonna scratch my 3D platformer itch so very much.

1. Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild: As far as anticipation goes, this game is in its own class. A new 3D Zelda is always an event for me and I can't wait to experience the new direction the series is headed towards.

2. Red Dead Redemption 2: RDR is one of my favorite games of all time. I loved the improvements GTA V made over IV, so if there is even a modest improvement from RDR to RDR2, this game is going to be a masterpiece.

3. Mass Effect Andromeda: The series has been dormant for enough time that I want that Mass Effect itch scratched. New characters, storylines, etc. I can't wait.

4. Persona 5: I have never played a Persona game, but hearing the hype on Neogaf has made me want to try this game out in the worst way.

5. South Park: The Fractured But Whole: Absolutely loved the first game and I know the creators won't simply rehash old ideas. Can't wait to see what insanity they've cooked up.

6. Resident Evil VII: Looks damn cool and I'm in the mood for some nice survival horror.

7. Yooka-Laylee: Give me that classic Banjo type game. Looks like a marriage of old school mechanics and new 2016 ideas.

8. Horizon Zero Dawn: Game looks absolutely gorgeous. If I wasn't a bit concerned about the lack of things to do in the game, this would be higher. I feel this will be better than I think.

9. Star Wars Battlefront 2: Would be higher if we knew anything about it. Huge SW fan and I know the developers will step up their game after the less than stellar reception of the last game.

10. Nioh: I didn't love the demo that I played (the first one), but I loved the look of the game and I am a huge souls fan, so I think this one could also end up higher on my list when it's all said and done.

There are many unscheduled releases, but there is already much to be excited about. This is the first time that I get to vote in a Most Anticipated thread!

1. Nioh ; From just the alpha and beta demos for this game, we all had the chance to see or actually have hands-on experience with Nioh's incredibly deep and rewarding gameplay. The trailers have been excellent, and I look forward to see the whole package when it releases in February. Everything about this new IP is hitting the right notes for me.

2. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild ; This entry in the Zelda franchise is very long in the making, but it will thankfully be worth the wait. The open ended design and modernized mechanics are welcome additions to this new quest, and BotW still keeps the qualities that make it feel like Zelda. This game will be huge.

3. Yooka-Laylee ; What more can I say? This spiritual Banjo sequel from ex-Rare veterans looks fantastic, and it's coming this spring!

4. Ni No Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom ; This game has made a huge impression on me just from two trailers released during Sony's 2015 and 2016 PlayStation Experience. This game is stunningly beautiful, the story is intriguing, and the action-based combat looks like a blast. This is shaping up to be a masterpiece.

5. Mass Effect: Andromeda ; I am very impressed with what I have seen of this game, and this looks like a great entry point for people like me (who missed out on the original trilogy).

6. Persona 5 ; It's certainly not the freshest or most daring game out there, but it's simply a game that I am guaranteed to love. P5 has some very nice QoL improvements, though it still mostly sticks with the formula that began with P3. And I am absolutely OK with that!

7. Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite ; The official reveal of this title was a very exciting event, and I anxiously await the release. I believe that this MvC entry will be an excellent 2D fighter.

8. Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age ; After 11 years, the Zodiac Job System will be added to an official US release. I am obviously psyched about all of the other enhancements. This is my most anticipated remaster of all time!

9. Scalebound ; So, I think this game is coming in 2017. The recent showings for this game have been disappointing, but Kamiya should not be counted out. It's a new IP, and I still see potential for a great game.

10. Resident Evil VII ; RE7 is coming in January, and it is very different from past entries. Recent showings of RE7 are much more appealing compared to its reveal, and it now looks promising. I'm not sure if this game will actually be good, but the bold direction definitely forces me to pay attention.

I may come back to add honorable mentions with an EDIT.

2017 looks good so far.

1. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
2. Red Dead Redemption 2
3. Persona 5
4. Meigakure
5. Yakuza 0
6. Detroit: Become Human
7. Tacoma
8. Below
9. Nier: Automata
10. Mass Effect Andromeda

i know some of these probably don't count but w/e i'm interested in all of em

Is BotW poised for top 10 for a third year in a row? This is almost as crazy as the WW-TP interim. EDIT: Though checking out past threads, looking more like Persona 5 is gonna get the 4 year title. Regardless, these threads are a fascinating introspective as to the climate of the industry from a consumer perspective, kudos to Shinobi for putting this on for so many years.

1. Persona 5 - I have been waiting for this for too damn long. The anticipation is killing me.

2. Horizon Zero Dawn - Beautiful new take by Guerrilla has me excited. My Pro is ready.

3. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - Ohhhh boy playing this on the go with the Switch is going to be the knees.

4. Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age - Never played the original on the PS2, but I hear a lot of good praise for this game every time FF discussions happen. The fact that it has the ffwd feature that FF7 had when I played it on my PS4 only makes it even better. Game actually looks pretty great for something of that era.

5. NieR Automata - Loved the original, and I am in love with the character designs, and just about everything else, from enemy design to the world. Also it's Platinum Games.

6. Mass Effect Andromeda - Now this I am interested for, because space. COD IW had a really cool space setting campaign, but it was short, it did not let you explore. THIS is something Mass Effect let you do (to an extent) and now more than ever seems to want to achieve as well. Game looks pretty also.

7. Vampyr - Vampires normally would have me turning away. But then I saw the game running, and it all just seemed to make me reminisce of the first time I played through Bloodborne.

8. Danganronpa V3 - More Danganronpa (hopefully it washes away the bad taste that the damned anime that concluded the original series left in my mouth). Also... MONOKUMA CUBS.

9. Cosmic Star Heroine - Another one that I have been waiting for for ages. Still super stoked and willing to wait a little longer if it means getting the successor to the classic Phantasy Star that I need in my life.

10. Red Dead Redemption 2 - I honestly couldn't think of anything else to put here. I loved Red Dead, loved GTA V, so I am just going with my gut. It's a Rockstar title so it's gonna be spectacular.
