Gigantic Open Beta Thread: It's not really a MOBA

Definitely cerberus in the back, mostly so you can see on the mini map if any enemies get behind your team to try to kill one of your creatures or set up for damaging your guardian.

Other than that, kind of up to the map and placement situation. I like the bloomer on the front line for quick retreats to heal, but think about where the walls will be for the cyclops as well. For example, on Sanctum Falls the cyclops walls are really effective at both the mid-river spot, and the offset point on your side of the map (a wall will block the main entrance to get to your guardian).
Agreed on these. Especially Bloomer on front line. Just had a game where I was able to sneak a Super Bloomer in a great front line spot, and the enemy team never managed to push us back from it.

Also worth bearing in mind the Clash locations. E.g. point A from Davaedra side on Sanctum Falls - useful as Cyclops in Pre-Clash, but in Clash that gives you a really nice bloomer position, off-centre and covered by walls so snipers can't pick it off during fights nearby.

Yeah that's a good point.

It'd be a lot easier to contribute to the creature summon positions discussion if I could find a goddamn top-down view of every map currently in the beta.

Why is this so troublesome.

Motiga pls.

There are so many lovely nuances in this. The way creatures heal you passively if no activity nearby, so an Aisling can chase a foe through all creatures but bloomers by using Sir Cador to disrupt the passive heal.

Also, I think energy orb capture can be disrupted via damaging a creature as it tries to get the orb. Very fine margins given how fast they cap, but the game is built on fine margins...

Is there a limit on voice line spam at all? This guy had me ready to throw hands after spamming HEEEELLP at least 30 times in a row.

Also why the hell is there no basic chat function?

I can try getting them more sharp if you like?
Edit: I updated them, should be a bit better

Thanks. It's much better now.

1) No. But you can disable the chat log, apparently, though I haven't seen the option.

2) Because they focused more on raw fundamental gameplay rather than supplemental functionality like chat. Motiga's said they're looking into it.

Does each week we play the same map? It feels like last week I was playing the canyon map and this week I have been playing another map but just the same one.

No. If you're just starting out, the game has a preference towards Ghost Reef for new players. There are three maps in the beta that rotate otherwise. I've personally seen a pretty good mix of Sanctum Falls and Ghost Reef, but the ice one is a bit rare for me.

Somehow won a match while we had an Aisling on our team with 0 kills, 7 deaths, and 1 assist.

I swear this game has players so bad on a level I haven't witnessed in a long time.

It's the casual shooter fans trying out the game for the first time, me thinks. They'll get better.

I've played SMITE enough times to know that they never will.

You have yet to play Titanfall 2 or League of Legends...

Problem is: the casual moron does not understand objectives. They run solo into multiple enemies and just die. Every time.
It's fine if you just start out, but it'd be nice if the tutorial video was unskippable in the beginning or something...

Ahh who am I lying to: the 08/15 gamer does not want to understand a game better. If he sucks for it the first couple of matches there's a good chance he will never try it again :(

Ah ok, must be a coincidence then. I played like 9 games, Last week, 6 times Ghost Reef. And this week I played like 3 times the ice one.

Hi guys, finally got around to trying this out, first few games have been fun.

What do you think about the fortune cards? They seem pretty cheap to draw and give pretty good rewards. Do you guys have a bunch of them running at once or just stick to the daily draw?

Been sticking with Lord Knossos for the first few games. It seems like he's a great beginner character.

In my case, I can really only play this every other week, so I just draw daily cards until I get seven, and I just try grinding them out when I'm able to play. I haven't used rubies/gems to draw Fortune Cards yet, I'd rather save that currency for premium skins.

I do enjoy the Fortune Cards in general, though. They're a nice take on the "daily quest", since there's a lot of different cards.

Holy fuck.

HOLY FUCK.

Game started 5v5.

By first wound, it was down to 4v5 us.

By their first wound, 3v5 us.

And we won.

Oh my God did we win.

The enemy team was such garbage.

Like.

I need to breathe now.

Too much of a rush.

I LOVE THIS GAME.

^ :D

Won a 5v5 that made me feel that last night. The moment you break the enemy team when the Clash is on a knife edge, and suddenly the way to the guardian is clear. So satisfying.

Helps when you are Voden and get a KDA of 15/4/26 ;)

I ended my match 39/15/22.

My friends ended up with 29/7/18 and 18/3/28.

I was running Tripp, and my friends were Tyto and HK.

We were up against Beckett, Margrave, Tripp, Tyto, and Imani. The only good players seemed to be Margrave and Tripp--Beckett and Tyto kept pushing too hard, and Imani never picked good spots to snipe from with good escapes.

Shit was insane.

Hah, epic stats!

There is something about Gigantic with friends that is so enjoyable. When a late game team fight explodes across an area everything goes mad, and it's a really intense flow of dodge, attack, run, block, heal/support whilst keeping the knife-edge energy mechanic in mind - e.g. A loose orb in the middle of the fight. Brilliant.

Double post, most tense game thus far:

My Knossos friend had a tough time against such a ranged-heavy team, but we made it in the end. Just. We were 3-1 up at the start of the Clash, too. They made a really strong comeback.

The Imanis were both putting out insane damage late-game. 50% healthbar kinda deals.

I really like that everyone's free rotation seems to be different (unless I'm missing something; I compared with a friend and his were definitely different). Keeps the matches from getting samey since you see a whole range of heroes from each player.

Sorry for the DP but does anyone know if there's any kind of "safe to leave" mechanic in this game?

It really sucks when you lose a team member which makes the game 4v5. Should I just be leaving these games if they happen early on? Is there any kind of leaver penalty in place yet?

There are no surrender or safe leave options in the current build of the game. Motiga's said, however, that they may be introduced in the coming weeks.

Thanks, at least the games seem to close out pretty quick when you're at such a high disadvantage.

Is crossplay a thing between the windows and Arc clients? If it's not they're essentially killing one version of the game, there's no way both those platforms are going to be equally supported by players.

The business/platform side of this game is such a mess it's absurd. I hate using the xbox app and I don't want to use some random ass platform I've never heard of

Nope, no crossplay between Arc and Xbox Live. There's a possibility it might happen, but as of right now, it's not there.

And I feel sorry for your frustrations. The only issue I've had with the Xbox app are that invites--both for parties and games--don't have an in-game UI to accept them, requiring you to switch to the app just to accept.

Other than that, my experience with it has been okay.

Motiga recently said in their AMA the plan is to unite matchmaking on all the platforms.

The game is not live on Arc right now for a reason. They obviously see that creating two playerbases is an issue, my assumption is they won't launch on Arc until they unite the matchmaking pool.

I wonder if they are going to add the new creature on Thursday, or if the content releases won't start until the new year...

I really hope they can figure something out on that front. I'm not 100% on the founders pack, but I'd more closely consider it if I knew what the hell was going to happen with the different platforms in the future.

The worst thing is that we have some precedent for Win10 being isolated based on CoD Infinite Warfare from a little while back. They were separate from the Steam player base for some unknown reason.

For what it's worth, so far it's looking like the xbox player base alone is more than enough to sustain the win10/xbox platform, in terms of CCU and keeping queues short. I'd be surprised if Arc wasn't also able to maintain a decent population since I'm guessing the bulk of our PC player base is still running win7/8... obviously it would be ideal to combine all of them, but there are still technical and business questions to answer before we can give any kind of estimates on if/when we could do that.

TL:DR I wouldn't worry about either platform drying up even if they stay separated,(barring a mass exodus). One advantage of the free-to-play business model is it's easier to keep CCU up if the game is fun, even if not everyone is ready to throw down cash money for the experience.

(knocking on wood so hard as I write this, I'm feeling optimistic but I really don't want to jinx us)

Yeah if they cant figure that out they might as well just shoot it in the head right now. Seems like they've gone through a nightmare getting this thing funded.

Lack of crossplay with Arc would suck, but wouldn't necessarily break the game's prospects. It's not as if Windows 10 and Xbox One are dead markets. More is better, absolutely, but would Arc being the missing leg of the stool really kill it...?
