SFV: 2017 Deluxe Edition includes Season 1&2. $79.99 (On Sale: $47 on Steam)

Isn't the season pass just giving you stuff you can earn on your own? If so, then having you pay extra just to unlock that content faster sounds like a cleverly disguised F2P business model.

It also includes premium costumes for the characters which are only available for $4.99 a piece. If someone were the type buy the each ones premium costume it would be about $60, so there's that. But, yes characters can be unlocked for free through getting Fight Money by playing games online or playing through story mode, trials or survival mode.

Had this been $59.99 I'd have thought about it, but $79.99 for a game that won't even sell to consumers at $19.99? Come on Cacpcom. This game needs to permanently be $29.99 for base, with $14.99 for each expansion. I don't know if they added an arcade mode yet, but the game is pretty content rich now on PC.

The $40ish i paid day 1 for SFV in what I consider an early release title was enough, I'm still sour over it. $80 is rough, at least it seems they are trying to fix things but still the cost is to high.

How is it all that different from other games with season passes? Season passes always give you extra content. Should they prevent you from being able to earn that stuff?

Why are people acting like this is the price for a re-release of the game? This is just a DLC bundle that includes Season 2 now. It's the same price as the deluxe edition was, but it includes both season passes. It's not a game of the year edition or a complete edition.

Price seems to be going in the wrong direction...

wtf capcpom

Well this is for all the base characters and DLC characters(with their premium costumes) including the ones not released yet for season 2. With all those characters you can get enough Fight Money to get Season 3 for free and a good portion of Season 4 unless you spend it on other stuff like stages, colors, and story costumes. Even if you spend FM on some of those things you should have enough for a complete season of characters. You could always buy the base game for "cheap" and just pick and choose what you want for a way cheaper price or just spend your FM on it.

If all you're getting is faster access to characters and cosmetics, that seems like a crappy deal. A season pass to me is getting exclusive playable content. They shouldn't prevent people that paid for the base game from getting the extra content because it was already a bare game to begin with. They are making you unlock it like you had to unlock characters in MvC2. However they really aren't giving good value for $20-40 extra in my opinion, unless you think costume stuff is worth it.

Seems Capcom wants to make $80 as the MSRP for the base game + all seasons available on the date. So, if that logic is true, next year this bundle should include Season 3.

With the inevitable promotions, I really hope more people pick the game up.

Reason does not belong in SF V threads.

Both season passes are 60 bucks together, no?

It could be cheaper but thats about right in terms of a package.

but if money is the issue...there are cheaper ways for one to get the same package if they are so inclined

so you are saying content should be locked behind the pass and that would be better?

what is with people asking for worse systems to be added to things, lately?

Wow no thanks... Was waiting to pick up S1/2 for $60 max. This is coming from someone who got the PS4 Special edition and PC version. I think I'm done with SF.

Ummm what.... Season 1 cost $20 and Season 2 cost $30? As long as you have the base game your good.

You can earn the characters, but realistically so much of the game's content is locked (stages, costumes, colors) and you get so little fight money that you're going to be missing a huge amount of the game regardless of the approach you take. I bought the first season pass and I still can't even afford everything I want, and that's ignoring season two entirely.

After you finish various one-time 'challenges' you get 50 fight money for a win, nothing for a loss. Characters cost 100,000, the new stages tend to be 70,000, etc. That's 2000 wins for a new character. There's weekly challenges that might give you 6000 or so, but at best that's a small bandage for the gaping wound which is SF5's 'economy'.

The pass also gives you premium costumes which are money only, but let's be honest: most of them for season one were terrible and even the okay ones were by no means worth their stated cost.

I'm amazed the new season pass doesn't include new stages, that's a pretty normal given for a seasonal fighting game update. But SF5 doesn't care about silly norms, it's a fighting game for the Age of Trump...

Oh cool, I was just asking the other day whether they had plans for this exact thing in the patch thread! I'll probably end up getting this during the christmas sale. I've never gotten into a fighter before, what's a good fight stick for someone who might play for 60 hours over a year and has no intention of going to Evo?

You can do exactly that right now given that you own the base game already. In fact you could've gotten the first season pass for less as it's been on sale on both PC and PS4 before.

I wanna throw down 6 to buy Akuma but I'm not sure what I'd have fun with if I don't wanna go online. Also I wonder if it comes with the Nostalgia costume. Pisses me off tbh.

It's a terrible price for those who intend to actually play the game and earn fight money to get characters from either season 1 or 2.

If someone is planning to do that then why would they buy this? Plus that money can be used for costumes and stages and such instead of characters if they're so inclined to unlock things with fight money. If they just want specific characters and wanna use fight money then they can just buy the base game.

It comes with the Battle Outfits, not the Nostalgia Costumes.

So...
  • Base Game: $60 (or cheaper, if you know where to look)
  • Season 1 Character Pack: $30
  • Season 2 Character Pack: $30
Not that bad of a deal, actually. Though with the base game being available for cheaper in stores (again, if you know where to look), the deal becomes not as great as it would be on paper. Either way, I can see the 2017 Deluxe Edition going on sale a few times this year, or Capcom even doing a physical release for the 2017 Deluxe Edition.

The retail copy goes for $20 easy so $80 with passes is still a deal. If you like the game of course.

Meanwhile Killer Instinct: Definitive Edition is $29.99 ($20 off) @ EB Games during Boxing Day/Week.

It's a shame KI doesn't resonate with me as much as Street Fighter. :(

Killer instinct is an older release by a few years though. A few years from now we might see a sf5 compilation disc for $50 the same way. Hard to know.

That is a terrible bundle no matter how you slice it. They're better off bringing down the price of the existing Season 1 Deluxe Edition to get folks to start.

But they would be better served by copying what Microsoft has done with Killer Instinct: A new disc (or download bundle) consisting of all Season 1 content (stages included but without alternate costumes) with the first character of Season 2 thrown in as an additional way to entice players. It would be a great starting point for any newbies.

Asking someone to fork over $80 for a product that has been maligned since its launch is a tall and stupid order.

A newly released pack of characters is $30 and the official digital price of the base game is $60.

Let's say you drop the price of the base game to $40 in the bundle, then each season pass is $20, still discounted from the digital retail price. $80 is a fair base price that can go down with sales in the future.

I do agree that they need some free sampler version for PS+ with 4-8 characters to revitalize the game.

The Deluxe Addition isn't an add-on. It's a Base Game + Season 1 + Season 2 bundle. There's no reason for somebody who already owns the game to buy it.

Capcom continue to make this game a hard pass for me.

If they were interested in selling copies, they should've set the price at a bundled (discounted) Season Pass price of $50, effectively giving the base game for free to newcomers. Especially considering it already goes for $20 or less, might as well at least try to entice new buyers.

I just played the game for the first time last night. Got my copy from newegg for $17.

$80 for everything so far, plus 5 "completely new" characters sounds like an incredible rip off to me.

If you can find the base game for $20, which I know you can. You can buy Season 1 for $20 that's $40 total. With the Fight Money you get from the base game and Season 1 characters you could potentially get most of if not all the Season 2 characters for free.

If you don't buy any of the new seasons do you still get all the balance updates? I got my main already sooo I don't give a shit about anything else. As long as I can continue playing online with the most current build I'm fine.

Yeah, all game balance/mechanic updates and new modes are free.

Damn, I totally forgot about Fight Money. Good call, sounds like even more of a ripoff.

Nah.

While I agree with your method (I've been saying it heavily), Capcom's pretty much said "fuck the casuals for this game from now on and we're going all in with the hardcore crowd" hence what they're doing. They don't care about casuals trying to get into this game anymore, they're not showing they do. Hell, most of the FGC that I've personally seen talk about it have no problem with that since they're playing the game and they love it, they don't care about casuals jumping in since they've got their own ecosystem. You can even see the comments on this forum from people who play this game daily. Capcom fucked up, they've admitted it repeatedly, they've failed with a lot of things related around this game but one thing they're not gonna do is just do anything for the casual plays from this point on it seems or at least compared to the hardcore. It's like people are saying "cheer up, yeah they fucked up but this game's just got stuff for us, maybe you can try it next time" or something.

It's sad but yeah casuals just aren't for SF anymore. Horrible it ended up like this.

Hope that MvCI give casuals what they need.
