Gravity Rush 2 demo is live

Less than two hours until Overture is posted. Until then, Sony just posted that they're going to be having a concert in Japan featuring music from various games including GR, Arc the Lad, Ueda's games, Ape Escape etc. But the main reason i'm posting this is because they created a piece of art for violinist Kat to go along with the announcement

That's awesome. Good to see pride from Sony's best first party studio

The demo felt nice, will play more later. Kat has personality, which is actually refreshing.

Very surprised and glad to see this getting a full-fledged Console sequel. Unique mechanics in its class.

I need this costume. Great, close to the original and modest.

This is way better than the first one though, the much more colorful looks suits the tone much better.

I also liked the second one better in previous material, though something still felt off. But in person it's better by another notch. I now didn't even mind the running animation, which really threw me off in videos.

Hopefully there's a Gravity Slide upgrade that lets you slow down and turn more sharply like the original.

About that, in the Remastered version it honestly doesn't feel necessary. On the Vita it was essential to make turns, but on PS4 I found it to be pretty easy just using the left stick. Not sure if it's just me.

i've seen some gifs of kat flying, is this a new skill on the game?

It's Lunar mode. You "fly" by pressing Forward + X at the same time. Maybe it'll be upgradeable or something in the full game, but as far as I can tell, you only "fly" for a brief period of time, and end up slowly plummeting downwards.

I like to use that while on the wall to fly straight up and get to the limits. Wish there was more time to play around with it. Guess that means I should get the full game lol

I've played through the demo 3 times and twice I've been stuck when asked to destroy the cargo (I think I destroyed it using the stasis field before necessary) and messed around with the Lunar mode a bit.

-Objects thrown with the stasis in Lunar mode leave behind some sparkling blue attack wherever the object breaks.
-You can fly and stasis at the same time which is bloody useful.
-Teleport kick to get around
-She can wall jump AND wall fly!

Made the boss fight pretty dope in the end.

edit: possibly the best looking game of all time ever

omg. I really don't want to play the demo any more, but I really want to try this.

Lol same

In Japan at least, it looks like you unlock Kat's original Maid, Cat and Military costumes in Gravity Daze 2 if you have a Gravity Daze Remastered save on your HDD.

I dunno how I only just now noticed this lol. But nice if we get it in the US, I fucking knew I should keep my Remastered save data just in case lmao

I just couldn't play it more than 10 minutes, the way it controls is just garbage. I really wanted to like it, but that just broke the deal for me.

Don't write it off so soon! It controls really well, you just need to get the hang of it. What are your problems with the controls exactly?

I got to play the demo and man the controls are too hard to master. When I played the first game I needed a few chapters before I got the hang of the controls.

I've played the demo but I couldn't figure out how to switch to other modes (lunar and terra I think it was ?).

I'd seen them in videos but couldn't find how to trigger them, so I ended up thinking they simply weren't available in the demo... but now I see those vids you guys post D:

Edit : ok, from what I see the "not beginner" course gets REALLY different ? I started it again but since it looked to be pretty similar to beignner (except with no tutorial) I didn't go through with it. Is this how I get the alternative modes ?

Also, yes the controls can feel clunky/imprecise at first, but mastering them is basically all you have to do in the game (the combat is so so and pretty much a distraction, getting good at traversal as you scout for all those cristal collectibles is where the game is at imo, at least in GR1), and by the end of the first one it was so satisfying to so sort of "slingshot" moves where you would launch yourself towards your direction, then reset gravity and switch momentum towards the ground in an arc, and fall right where you wanted.
Pure crack.

Also the fact that you're not entirely in control I think is part of the game, I always enjoyed even in the animations, you can see Kat is always "falling" and not flying, there's this element of, you're switching your own gravity, not flying, and I love this.

The fact that you're sort-of making-do with your powers as opposed to perfect super hero mastery is also elicited by other stuff like, when you take a bunch of props (or NPCs, poor sods) with you when switching, when you smash yourself on the ground or wall instead of gracefully landing, etc.
The abnormal quantity of physics props ready to fly around and brak in the town in GR2 also really adds to the overall clumsines of your character, especially when sliding.
(although I admit, If the camera could stop moving around *so much* at the simple touch of the left stick when sliding, it would be nice, it makes the turning feel way more responsive that it is and is confusing).

Stuff felt like off at first for me too when I played the demo, but then I adjusted the motion controls and camera sensitivity, and all was well.

Holy. Fucking. Shit.

You make my playstyle look like garbage.

Someone remind me again how to superman without dodging first?

Also we need gifs.

This is boss! I ditched superman flying at first because falling is more practical, but will give it more use after seeing this.

PSA: To perform Lunar dash forward to recreate those sweet superman gifs, press forward and X at the same time from the point of the stick being at center (when Lunar is on obviously). You cannot perform it in the middle of running unless you reset the stick to center and then press forward and X again.

It's in the OP btw

Another neat thing I noticed is that while in Lunar Mode, you can press the evade and attack buttons one after another to stay in the air virtually forever without having to use your normal gravity powers. It'll probably never, ever be more practical than using your normal methods of traversal, but I thought it was pretty cool that Lunar Mode made you light enough to do that. At one point I was playing around in the demo, seeing if I could use that and wall jumps to slowly make my way up back to the town without flying back up there.

I didn't master it, but I've been doing alot of those wall jumps minutes ago. It feels good, but hard to perform especially in the middle of battle.

Cutie-J?

Never played the first game, but this demo was pretty enjoyable... Not sure I'd pick it up day 1 when I have to make time for Nioh and RE7 but it's definitely piqued my interest. I like the art direction and music, and the gameplay hook of "falling with style" is pretty neat even if it takes some getting used to.

Damn, didn't know you could even wall jump like that! Makes me wonder what kind of trials are in store. Seems like they may be harder to clear this time around.

The whole floating mechanic feels of, I just can't precisely aim to where I am supposed to go naturally enough. It feels really clunky.

I might give a proper try later but the first impression was very awkward.
