That's a very likely outcome, yes.

However, they don't necessarily have to follow the same pattern this time around. Different team, different game, different roster. If a V rep was to be in, I'd be fine with it down the line. I just don't want it in the base roster.

I don't really see the problem with a V rep being in the base roster. It's good exposure for SFV, plus (as mentioned earlier) the SFV newcomers as a whole have been more liked than the IV newcomers as a whole.

i just hope every character has plenty of alternate costumes with different colours. especially since comic book characters have so many looks, don't limit them!

That would depend on if Marvel's okay with alternate colors for the costumes. They're known to be pretty restrictive on that kind of stuff.

How much more exposure does SFV need, though? It's the most recognized fighting game. I feel like characters from dormant IP's would serve a better purpose in the roster when it comes to good exposure.

As for V's newcomers being more liked, how is that determined? I see a lot of hate for Laura and Necalli, don't see much about F.A.N.G., and Rashid is considered cool by many. Both casts seem equal. Neither is that great.

There's actually quite a bit of appreciation for Laura & Necalli in various social media that I've seen (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, etc.). None of the SFV newcomers seem to be outright hated like Rufus or El Fuerte in SFIV.

I see Laura's sex appeal, but most (that I've come across, often in threads about the story) just considered her a dizzy broad with boobs. Now I post in story-related threads throughout forums, which might explain why there's so much hate for Necalli. Probably because he was hyped up and ultimately nothing special in the story.

Fuerte and Rufus were hated, yes, but I never got that impression from Viper and Hakan. Most seemed to enjoy the oil man more than I thought. Juri is universally loved. Seth is probably better off forgotten.

In the end, will I pout if Rashid makes the roster? No. I just personally would rather not see him in the base roster. If he's in, it isn't the end of the world. I always liked Bison in the VS series, and felt it'd be good to include him in after missing MVC3.

That's kind of weak as far as substantiation goes. Sure, I can see the potential for maybe Necalli but I don't think you're going to see much aside from selectivity in terms of his or any SFV newcomers' reception when SFV in general has been lukewarm. That and you can't really level "none of the characters seem hated" as a favor against SFIV when Juri arguably outclasses every other SF newcomer in the last decade in terms of popularity. As has been suggested earlier I don't really believe including a rep from the game is necessary to support SFV since that kind of advertising is a lot more broad (you could argue Ryu is advertisement enough for SFV - he's the one adorning that game's cover art).

There's much ado about there having to be a "pattern" in terms of repping the latest Street Fighter but is that really the case? Street Fighter III released three years before Marvel vs Capcom 2, and the only new Street Fighter reps in that game weren't from III. The idea that we're only getting a rep from a recent game is based off of Viper being in Marvel 3, but that only makes it an instance; not a pattern.

We absolutely don't need Rashid or one of the new SFV characters when they have their own brand new game. People are saying Rashid plays like a Vs character. That's good. Then you don't need him playing like a vs. character in two current games.

Fair enough. Personally I care more about the characters chosen rather than series representation. For example I love Rival Schools, but I'd probably be more disappointed than happy if we get Batsu as the sole RS representative.

Also I really like Rashid ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

1: Stupid strong
2: Incredibly dumb
3: Sex appeal out the yin yang by character design as per usual
4: OMG STOP BEATING UP SEAN

Laura sexy design makes ZERO sense.

She has a personality of more of a tomboy but is designed as girly stripper

I think I've said this before but Laura's intro in the story mode is still my favorite just for how absurd it is

- happy upbeat music
- here comes Laura, carrying two mooks
- bullies her brother for no discernible reason, asks if he's got a girlfriend, unintentionally motorboats him (?)
- challenges Ken for allegedly doing the exact same thing she was just doing 10 seconds beforehand

I'm not opposed to having more street fighter characters in the future as DLC but the launch roster only really needs 3: Ryu and Chun cause they always need to be there, and Akuma, because how else is Justin gonna save Mahvel?

Abel really is. Which is a shame, because his moveset isn't terrible. Even in SF4 he's just kinda there. Both his design and personality are so barren.

I would be more keen on rashid, if I liked his design.

I don't like his design. I think shaheen from tekken is a much better excited design in that regard.

He doesn't excite me.

Chun-Li has always been a waste in the vs games, though. She's iconic, but she's always been a dud. Roster decisions don't need to be based on a single pro player either. Akuma is in both SFV and Tekken now, so he's getting plenty of brand new exposure in 2017. He doesn't need to be in yet another game.

I'd be happy with only Ryu from SF, personally, but I know that will never happen.

I was totally convinced that Akuma would return, but given that he is in another crossover this year I could sorta see him skipping out on this one. Maybe we'd see the return of Complete Change Ryu.

I dunno, he just feels overexposed at this point.

I could totally see Transformed Ryu returning. His form could just come down to what Infinity Stone he chooses.

But realistically, Akuma will just likely make the roster.

I really really really wanna see Complete Change Ryu come back.

Since someone brought up Cammy, what if we had a nameless Doll who played like Cammy but with all the weaponry and moves of the other dolls?

The Justin/Akuma comment was just petty humor from my part, I really don't care if he's in or not.

Chun is inevitable. Just like Spidey and the OG six movievengers. No ifs or buts about it.

That would be pretty interesting.

Most probably wouldn't care for the idea, though. I don't think many care for the style of the Dolls.

Haggar its basically a Street Fighter character, too.

Alex in TvC was freakin' great IMO. Its feel really different from the rest. Same with Batsu.

If capcom wanted to go all crazy with fighting game characters they just could pick random chars like precisely Edward Falcon...Or even Wang-Tang from the same series, wich is basically a Dragon Ball character:

I remember Niitsuma saying in a interview that Cyclops didn't make the cut in UMVC3 because of the optic glass movesets. Only to find out that C.Viper has stolen his signature move.

No, he said Marvel wouldn't allow Cyclops to be included.
Later on we came back to the subject of characters, and we tried to trick Niitsuma into letting something else slip by asking him if Marvel had rejected any of Capcom's character suggestions. Niitsuma wouldn't say anything, but he put his finger to his lips, and then made a visor motion across his eyes before drawing an X across his chest.

Im sure somebody one say something like Cyclops was rejected either because C.Viper got his move in Umvc3, or because his moveset was kinda complicated or something. Im not actually sure, but thanks for the quote.
