There's a Stronghold Crusader 2 and it came out in 2014? How did I not know about this?! I've always wanted a sequel. Reviews make it sound bad though

Really glad I picked up Odallus: The Dark Call during the steam sale. This game is legit. Though I'm slightly baffled by reviewers saying it is easy and beating it in 4 hours. The "secret levels" that are mandatory to get to the end boss are pretty tough, especially compared to the regular levels. Hoping to get through the game before the weekend. Though I've read that the end boss is a cheesing bastard.

fuck, alt tabbing from Doom and tabbing back makes the game crawl to 10fps, even in menus, and I cant seem to fix it, just had to reload this level (well checkpoint). Gotta remember to not alt tab >_>

Yep. He is really tough and has a strange hitbox. I had to watch a youtube video to counter-cheese him properly.

Thats surely what the fans want, Takaichi-san, right?"

They say you shouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth, but that would still be disappointing. Nor would it really qualify as much of a gift, considering people would stil need to pay for them.

Yes, I loved that game (Oniken is another great but quite different game by the same devs). I also don't think that the game starts out that easy but once you get your hands on the upgraded weapons and armor the difficulty drops noticeably.
And don't worry about the end boss. He requires a somewhat good execution since its a prolonged fight and losing health early on makes it difficult in the end but I wouldn't call him cheesy at all. Like video game bosses do he has a pattern to his attacks ... one that might be too obvious to notice at first.

I've been gifted DOOM and The Witness by some very kind friends and I have to say that it is very refreshing to go alternate between the gore and the very fast pace of the first, to the incredible calm setting of the latter.
It's also interesting to see how both games offer exploration, even though in a very different manner: I'd say that DOOM feels arcadey, in that you can repeat and explore a level until you master it and unlock all its secrets before moving to the next one if you wish to do so, while in The Witness you can explore almost all of the game from the beginning. What you learn in area could help you in another one and there's nothing that prevents you from following the path you want, it really feels like you're on an island all yours to explore.
They are definitely both great games, and it's great to be able to play them back to back.

Creating my Steam GOTY 2016 list made me realize how little DLC still means to me. If I play or try 70 games a year, I play maybe 10 DLCs a year and half of them are completely garbage or just vastly inferior compared to base game. I seem to mostly enjoy DLC for RTS games, DLC that adds new factions, units, maps, campaigns. Soulsborne DLC is automatic buy even if I don't always enjoy it (Bloodborne had excellent expansion, Dark Souls 3 DLC was a huge disappointment to me). Then there's Battlefield series where I pay silly money to get more maps. That's about it, all the other DLC means very little to me.

With early access I sometimes buy games early but very few early access games I actually play before they release. I usually want to have a little taste at most. Sometimes I find out that some early access game I have has already been released, maybe months ago. At other times I find games in my EA list that have been completely abandoned. Today I found out that Servo development ended in September after months and months of silence from the developers. It also seems Stardock dropped as publisher earlier this year. A shame too, because I liked Servo but decided to wait for the release to play more.

Damn you go down fast in Doom. Also I keep pressing R to reload and Shift to sprint, dat FPS muscle memory.

Finished level 2, and its fantastic. Actually got all the upgrades and shit too which surprised me (well not really since I did a fair bit of exploring). The keep introducing new upgrade mechanics which leads me to believe that either the game is really long, or they dont really matter.

I think I only played one DLC last year, the one for Hard West and I didn't even get around to finishing it.

I have no idea why I bought Euro Truck Simulator 2. My experience with Project Cars and Dirt Rally should have told me that I prefer the arcade style vehicle games over simulators.

Just knocked out a bit more of the backlog by finishing The Dream Machine Chapter 5. It was more convoluted than some of the other chapters: it's one of those adventure game situations where you have to do things in two different places, but you're never really sure when you've done all you can in one of them and it's time to go back to the other? Normally that wouldn't be a bad thing, but the transitions in this one take so long. It's still a great game.

...And now we wait for all the claymation to be done for the final chapter. No idea how long THAT'S gonna take. Hell, this game still uses flash it's been so long since chapter 1.

I will keep that in mind as a last resort, if it comes to that. First have to beat that shitty boss in 1-2, the one where you have to float above lava...

We'll see. Still need to beat 3 bosses before I get to him. The difficulty for me seems to mostly come from going into levels without having a bunch of the artifacts, which made things a bit more challenging at times. Still, whoever designed this lava section before the boss (where you have to float, swipe sword, release to fall and quickly float and sword swipe again) is not my friend.

Here's another reason why you should play The House in Fata Morgana
YTmD6Uc.png

I'm definitely interested in it. I want to get it with soundtrack (which I heard a little of and it's really good) but I have a lot of other VNs I need to get through. Silver Case , Danganronpa 2, and Root Double. Just have to make time for them. Overwatch though still has it's claws in me deep.

Also, what kind of RPG is Xanadu Next most like? And how come this game has basically been never mentioned outside of this thread? =/
