And another big game that has release date discrepancy.

I hate that all games aren't released world wide on the same day, I actively have to avoid the internet for a couple of days because of spoilers.

hey Shinobi is there gonna be an optional film grain filter

these are the important questions

after ME3 I swore I was done with this series, but the previews so far have looked like the ME1 sequel I always wanted. Not sure I will be able to get this at launch though with Nier 2 weeks prior and Persona 5 two weeks after.

I can't believe I'll be playing this game sooner than Persona 5. Thanks Atlus

I never thought a year and half ago that Andromeda would be out before Persona 5 but here we are. I really want to play this but with all the KH games and Persona 5 and DQ 8 and Switch i'm strongly thinking of holding off on this and picking it up on sale.

I thought It'd get delayed, but this makes too much sense a week or two before persona 5. It's the final fuck you to me with my loaded schedule this semester.

Outstanding!

My most anticipated game! I assume we should expect EA Access to go live around the 16th? I'll likely take a day off work to play this, probably Friday the 24th.

I'd actually love to know what experiment EA was running. Maybe how long the hype cycles takes to rise to its peak once a release date is known or something?

In any case, all GAF armchair analysts line up to eat your crow.

Not an analyst but, yeah... I'm crunching my crow. Thought 2018 for sure.

Eh, just gonna buy the game from the US Xbox Store, like I always do. These 2 day delays between regions are dumb.

Has anything been said about an online beta? I remember they were taking sign ups before.

Nope. EA gonna EA and have the "Beta" in March.

This is actually getting pretty common. I think people will be surprised how late some games are unveiling for releases this year.

Sure, I was just saying I'd like to hear the specific reasons for it. As in: has it been determined how long the most "efficient" hype cycle is? How much extra revenue can one anticipate for every dollar of marketing spent before...say 3 months from launch? Stuff like that would be interesting to read about.

Just to decide between PS4 and PC now.

So excited for this game.

PC will have native controller support this time, if that helps.

I love Mass Effect, but there are too many RPGs releasing so close together. Horizon Zero Dawn, NieR Automata, Mass Effect, Persona 5 are Kingdom Hearts. Gonna be tough to decide which games get priority. Would have rather had this release in May.

Will this be the first 2017 game to get delayed?

Still #TeamDelay

I can see it getting delayed.

I wouldn't be surprised at all

FFS. And here I thought everyone who was COCK SURE 100% CERTAIN it would be delayed would start preparing the crow. Guess not. jackiechan.png

Guys, we're less than 2.5 months out from release, and it was just announced today. This isn't going to be delayed. As shinobi and others have said, they very likely waited this long specifically so that there would be no such uncertainty.

To my understanding, publishers found that the vast majority of pre-release marketing is only paid attention to with the initial debut trailer, and the content very close to launch, so they pretty much collapsed the marketing cycle to fit that. This also lets you display content that is very polished in all your marketing materials instead of having content from a long time ago coming back to haunt you.

A lot of the most effective marketing also comes from betas and streamers, so they need freely playable content that doesn't have a ton of bugs/issues, which only tends to happen near the end.

On top of that, direct marketing is both very effective and cost effective, and they don't need to do ad buys as far in advance for that to time up with major sports events and the like.

Finally, service games are a big part of this. You don't want to distract from your current games, because you want people to keep playing them as long as possible. Similarly, you actually want to be releasing a lot of information post launch about your existing titles and the updates they're receiving, so your marketing is often focusing on that instead of what is releasing next.

Too many games in the March window, and Biowares recent track record will easily push this game to waiting on the bargain bin for me. Even then, will be heavily weighted on reviews and impressions.
