Prototype of cancelled ''Mega Bloks Halo'' Game surfaces (basically ''LEGO Halo'')

This is the kind of thing that really could have expanded Halo as a franchise. Microsoft seems to just play it completely safe for the most part in the last couple of years and looking at what they offer as a first party they really need something like this.

Or to put it another way, I worked at Gamestop for nearly a decade and multiple times a week I would get parents saying they wouldn't buy Halo for their young child because it was M rated. The cartoony and comedic aspect of the series has always appealed to kids this seems like an obvious thing to do and I'm just completely shocked that Microsoft turned it down.

Wow damn I wish this would have been a finished product. I would have bought this instantly. I really hope they revisit something similar in the near future

Uhh... That looks extremely fun. Especially as a Halo fan, this is something new and exciting. I want this game. Hell, to just play the prototype of the levels.

Man watching this again it's absolutely insane this wasn't green lit. It looks excellent and I LOVE the way it almost feels like an N64 version of Halo. This could have been really fun for series vets and also a great way to introduce younger gamers to the franchise.

What a fuck up by MS here

Looks better than any of the actual Lego games, honestly. And I even like Lego games, but there seems to be a lot more depth and variety to the gameplay here.

i wonder why it was cancelled

maybe they thought minecraft would've been just good enough, (i believe the acquisition was after this time period) but even then that's a stretch on my part

It was cancelled right around the end of his tenure though Phil was leading games at the point so who knows.

It could have been cancelled because it was a Don Mattrick game too. Cleaning house sort of deal. Tough situation regardless, and I feel for everyone from N-Space.

Dang, especially if this had a simplified but still fun/over the top version of multiplayer, would have day one'd this.

Imagine a silly over the top big team CTF, with one team in scarabs and shit, and the other team rolling around in the UNSC equivalents, in a big colorful version of Blood Gulch.

I wonder if the less than stellar reception of Halo 4 caused 343/MS to pull the plug rather than be seen as trying to milk the IP. to focus on traditional Halo projects.

Halo 4 actually sold quite well and we'll have had 3 halo games since

The more likely reason is that it was just a prototype for the 360 and they would have likely had to start over in late 2013 for an Xbox one version. They also would had MCC and halo 5 in the oven and probably didn't see any need for another game

When we are three pages into a NeoGAF thread about a canceled MS game and there isn't one single negative post about it... you know that mistakes where made.

Milk was a bad way to put it. I just mean that 2013 would have been a rougher time for Halo in terms of retention. Perhaps the brand could have been seen as weaker and that a decision was made to stay on "traditional" Halo titles rather than something off-brand like this game.

Yep, exactly. I hope the positives of my video existing find their way to the right people at Microsoft.

That actually looked really good. I had no idea Mega Blocks had Halo sets. It definitely was pre Halo 4. They had a firefight mode, splitscreen and variety to the gameplay in campaign.

Looks way more intriguing and fun than anything Halo they have put out in recent years. Such damn shame Microsoft heads never really saw possibilities of letting the Halo creators/developers doing more than than churning out the same relic shit. Reach and ODST strayed from the norm and were Amazing. So much lost opportunity over the years.

Mega Bloks has Call of Duty as well.

I kinda really want a CoD in a style similar to this as well now.

Looks like the most interesting thing they were doing with the franchise in the last 10 years, of course it would get canned.

I like the look of it but I really don't like the lock-on mechanics sometimes leading to (what looked like) the player shooting enemies off-screen.

I also don't really know if this would have been great for kids. They must have done some focus testing. Perhaps it didn't test well with kids and got canceled?

Speculation time: I don't really know if you can sell a game like this to kids if they don't already have familiarity with the IP. Star Wars, Marvel IP, and Harry Potter all resonate as LEGO games because kids are already into those franchises and they know about them. HALO isn't big with younger kids under 10 years old -- it's probably entirely unknown to them.

Wow I want this. Xbox is crying for more family orientated games and this would have been perfect .

Give it to rare and see what hey can do with it. Missed opportunity .

I do like playing the lego games and the videos I saw looked like it'd be just as fun

a shame really, should have released it since halo has been on a decline and it could have helped reach more kids

Hmm they look pretty good. I thought they were kind of cheating in the video with simplified character models that explode into bricks, but its a close resemblance to the toy. I googled and came up the "Spartan Blue Team" for reference. Pretty close other than the enlarged feet.

If they'd put this on Xbox One and PC (even with the shittastic UWP), it probably would've gotten decent, if not great sales, especially since it had co-op, which is rarer and rarer these days.

Probably didn't pass the dudebro focus test.

Exactly why I am starting to hate halo . Halo wars 2 does not excite me at all and I have bought every halo since the first one .

They should be doing this stuff for gears also , tone down the violence (I would buy both , one for me , one for the kids)

I suppose they have minecraft now and it's skins so that's what they consider there kiddie version .

Bought every Lego game there is and that's getting abit stale now too , we need more competitors .
