I'm starting to pick him up too, because it seems to be harder to find a good tank than a decent healer.

Reinhardt surprisingly has quite a lot of nuance in his play. You really have to know when to block and when to go in, and he has a lot of damage as long as you don't overextend and get yourself killed. And yes, earthshatter is great.

Yeah I love Rein, my go to tank. nothing more satisfying for me than getting a 5-6 man shatter and flame/charge combo for the additional picks. He can build ult fast too if you line up the flame strike to hit several enemies.

I hate hate hate Overwatch with a passion.

Placed high Gold and got knocked so much further down. Only just squeaked into Platinum last night with 2501 thanks to a 6-man pre-made we constructed over the course of 2 matches.

Can't wait to play some more.

Aye.

I wonder if Blizzard can do anything to change this, or if it's simply the result of the game they've created.

Consider the way that they ignore feedback on PTR. I don't think they're capable of balancing a game to save their life anymore.
Also not just Overwatch. They've been doing shit like this in WoW for.. a while.

How does Rein vs Rein work, by the way? Can you charge a Rein who has his shield up? I've had Reins charge me when I swear I have my shield up, but sometimes I still get pinned while other times I just get bumped away.

I've also had enemy Reins use Earthshatter on just me. Not sure if that's worth it.

To be fair here:
Only 0.25% of the PC playerbase has played the PTR, and almost all of them played less than 20 minutes (including menu time), so basically 1 match. Yet a shitload of people bitch about the changes. I would be wary about people who haven't even played the PTR giving me feedback, and I also would be wary about people who only played a match or two and haven't invested a bit more time to both get used to the changes and figure out what they mean in order to give feedback.

So most of the "feedback on PTR" Blizzard is getting is from people who played one match at most, if any at all, and would YOU balance your game based on that?

Firestrike will go through a rein's shields and charge will also go right through their shield too. Earthshatter will not.

Basically it's a mind game battle when two Rein's face each other, but I love doing it and faking the other one out.

Also hammer swings will hit you behind shield so it really is a matchup of who is better at spacing.

Oh, you can swing through someone's shield? I didn't know that either.

Funny how Rein vs Rein is starting to sound like a fighting game with footsies.

I love Rein vs Rein when I have a good team to back me up. The mind games come out in full force then. But most of the time the enemy Rein has his entire team helping him while my team is running everywhere but behind my shield so even if I pull off good strategy I still get murdered.

One more thing too you might not know: If both Reins charge at each other, you both will stun and knock each other down for like a second. So it is a good strategy to try to counter charge if you know you can't strafe out of the way.

This is my life as a Rein main. I had a game where I was able to Earthshatter 5 members of a team around the payload, but everyone else on my team was chasing around a junkrat that was clearly out of position. And when their Rein was able to get the jump on me, I seemed to have all guns positioned on me.

Always fun.

I've seen this happen a few times before, but I haven't done it on purpose. Like you said, I guess it's the better alternative if you know you can't dodge the enemy charge in time.

Do you both take damage if this happens?

Rein is probably my favorite hero to play as but without a semi organized group you'll be pretty damn useless and get murdered repeatedly. I guess this is why I have more hours as Lucio and Soldier cause you can play those even when your team is completely incompetent.

Yes, but I'm not sure if it's less than a full Pin's worth of damage or not. Can't remember off the top of my head.

Last night was not a good night for me. I'm tired of seeing Diamond players at my rank (2600-2800) who are treating comp like it's quick play.

I think after 2 hours of play and two losses I was down about 15 SR. It was ridiculous how many draws I had to work my ass off for.

Yup. When I played Rein on Gibraltar last night I kept getting picked by Winston and Pharah, as our S76 was off doing who knows what and dying by being in front of my shield instead of behind it.

When I switched to S76 I made sure that Pharah couldn't do jack.

We still lost because someone went McCree and didn't know how to play hitscan characters lol.

Yes, you both will take damage as if you had been pinned to a wall, so 300ish depending on armor.

I love the overconfident Reins, who are doing a fantastic job so they think, lets move up from the choke point were defending so well and move right into our opponents spawn point because fuck yeah we are wrecking shit.

Only to proceed to be picked off, then our Zarya, than both our healers, and then everyone else.. give up point A, get mad switch off Rein, and give up point B.

I love rein vs rein because it's exactly like a fighting game. It's ridiculously fun to fake each other out and find out who pulls the trigger first. Good stuff.

Rein can charge into another Rein shield up or not. If you got bumped away, his charge wasn't accurate enough.

Key thing I find is that when both of you have shields up, it becomes a battle of flame strike and who gets their ult first. I find I come out on top nine times out of ten because I drop my shield and jump out of the way (to fully dodge) when the other Rein flamestrikes towards me, most Reins move with their shield up and they almost always get hit because their agility is hindered.

Lately I've been really wanting some type of optional HUD element that shows basic status information for your teammates. It could be as simple as small thumbnails for each character, with a red X through them if they're dead, a little green check mark if they're within six meters of you, and maybe a few more indicators for various effects like hacked/asleep/etc. The main info I want is whether they're alive and near me, though. There's just been way too many times where I'll be leading the charge as Rein or D.va, thinking my team is behind me, only to find out that they got scattered and I'm a sitting duck.

That feel when you intentionally lower your shield when it starts getting low to bait an Earthshatter and then raise it at the last second.

Rein is allot of fun though. Probably more than any other hero though, it's easy to call when Rein has ult and wants to use it. He's always by the front even if the rest of his team isn't behind him. I'm guilty of this a bit too, but I think I'm pretty patient on the whole as I usually successfully score a ton of Earthshatter kills.

Unrelated, for prospective Reins, taking periodic swings at the other Rein's shield is important. Building up ult faster than the other one is an important part of the game, and each swing builds allot of charge. Same deal with Firestrikes - They're not to deal damage allot of the time, they're to build ult, and good Firestrikes build a crazy amount of ult.

Nah, Firestrike is designed to snipe annoying Pharahs out of the air because your Soldier or McCree is too incompetent to look up and you have to show them how it's done.

I've actually hit Pharahs with Firestrike before, but no one followed up on it. :(

This is a very good tip. Building that ult is just as important as holding up the shield.

Also for those learning Rein, if there's an enemy Zarya, never use fire strike until you know she used her bubble shield. Fire striking is one of Zaryas favorite things to build her bubble power up. It's too easy to see coming and you'll quickly power her up to max with just a couple. Dva eating your firestrikes will happen frequently too, but you won't be punished like zaryas counter to it.

I finally hit level 25 and I'm doing my placement matches now. I'm having a blast with Roadhog and Lucio lately. In my worst group since playing, I entered a match in the last minute, got 4 solo kills, and got the gold medal. What?!

I've discovered that running into Rein and punching him to death is a viable strategy 1v1. :p

Issue: I often can't tell when I'm being hit. I will die and think "I didn't even know someone was shooting at me". Other shooters are much more visual in their display of harm done to you. Is there something I can do to improve this situation? It's rather frustrating.

There's an Arcade Brawl mode where it's 5 Reins + 1 Lucio only. The combats ensuing with 10 Reins are insane. One of my favorite mode because it's just fun and ridiculous. Make some maps nearly impossible to beat though, like Attack Hanamura. Unless you're lucky enough to kill all Reins in a matter of secs, Point B will never be captured.

Lmao what??? That's crazy. I haven't given arcade mode much of a glance since it's big update but that sounds fun :p

Overwatch is so frantic at times you may just be paying attention to everything else and not realizing you're taking fire. My only suggestion is to keep playing and get used to it. There are actually a lot of markers and indications you're being attacked but when things get crazy you should just learn to always give yourself an out. Try to go into battle with an exit strategy. Whether it be a teammate to rescue you or a wall to run behind. Just be aware of your surroundings! Practice makes perfect.

Hmm, I can't say I've noticed this. Try turning your volume up, maybe. OW has a ton of audio cues, and you might be missing out on some of them. You might just be getting melted by concentrated team fire, too.

When you are swinging at another Reinhardt it's also damage not been absorbed by the shield. Even if you swing once so you don't have time to regen it can help you win the shield battle and help support build ult. Just risky if they have earthshatter or hook is available.

Mind you, the chances that you'll get this Reins mode is low since its random and there's like 12 others thrown into the mix(snipers only, support only, pharah/mercy only, McCree only, double HP & shorter cooldown(this one is a bit insane), etc.)

It's amazing to me that Blizz still doesn't have arcade stat/time played tracking.

Eh. I want at least one mode where I know stats aren't being tracked so I can just fuck around and not care. Also it would be hard to track stats across all the different arcade mode types, especially since there will be seasonal events and stuff.

Well yeah. If they have a Roadhog, you don't just stick your neck out nilly-willy. You gotta keep track of the cooldown on that shit. And if you're not tracking CDs as Rein, then you're really not doing your job.

Sometimes when my shield's regening and I'm hiding by a wall by the choke, I'll take a swipe at the Rein when he's close to keep in check, but I'm cognizant of the relative position of Roadhog or Ana or other disablers.

You still have a good measure of freedom as Rein though because the big disables of Overwatch are projectiles and Rein can cancel his hammer swing into shield. So long as they're not *right* on top of their Rein, you have plenty of time to react.

So true. Rein is awesome but can be useless without good team backup.
I love Rein v Rein encounters. When I come up against a Hog tho I get so salty.

Pretty ugly breakdown.

I wonder when we'll get an update on the Mercy changes they've mentioned from time to time - she's been down in the D/F tiers for a long time now and it feels like tweaking numbers doesn't really address the issues with her kit as a whole (inflexibility, over-reliance on res, etc.). Then again, it feels like a lot of character languish at low-usage for long periods of time, or do so with only occasional jumps in use rate.
