21:9 Gaming Thread | That cinematic feel

Man ... seeing these images. I have read so many reviews on some monitors and I am still looking at one of the two I listed. It is so much money, I just do not want to ... "waste" it on the wrong one.

Acer Pred X34 vs Asus ROG PG348Q

Same panels, just go with whatever is cheaper at the time of purchase, imo.

What type of games do you plan on running?

All of them really. I am not picky. Doom, Gears, probably some racing. Defiantly RPG, etc.

Edit: I heard that 1440p is still the way to go over the 4K for the refresh and such.

Edit 2: I am leaning towards the Acer Predator for some reason.

I bought the Asus early November and I absolutely love it. I will never be able to go back to regular 16:9 lol. I'm sure both monitors are pretty much the same. I used Asus monitors for a long time now , so that's why I stuck with that one. Had no problems at all so far and got lucky on my blacklight bleed which is not too bad for me.

any recommendations on 21:9 monitors with the following?:
- IPS
- G-sync
- 1080P/1440P
- Curved (not priority)?

the X34 Bezel is bothering me :/

I am leaning towards the predator. Just waiting for a little lower price than the current Amazon price. Although the Asus is really good too. Haha

Anyone know what price point I should be targeting with these? I am not sure what the range is in price? Probably will stick to Amazon to buy (US)

Congratz! and welcome to the 21:9 club. It really is an amazing monitor and it makes you want to replay every game in widescreen haha.

Well, I took the dive myself. After a LOT of hemming and hawing, I picked up an Acer Predator X34 bmiphz.

I just ordered my X34. I get it tomorrow. I can not wait!

That question about the PS4 is a good one. Anyone try it?

Edit: This thread should really be updated with lists of games and newer models, etc.....

Ugh. I was expecting to get my new monitor today but according to Fedex, it comes tomorrow. Amazon was supposed to overnight it (they screwed something up) and it was set to be that way, including the info on the Amazon page.

What the heck! Maybe I will get lucky and the Fedex page is not up to date ....

No games on the PS4 support 21:9, nor do they support gsync. and most games are 30 FPS (or below). Consoles really are meant for TV's. Having said that, there's no reosn why they wouldn't work with these. It's just that you'll have black bars on the left and right.

They picture might also be stretched. My LG 34UC97 stretches 1080P HDMI signals. The stretching isn't as bad as 4:3 to 16:9 but it's a waste to use the monitors just for console gaming.

I use the ps4 on mine and it looks great even without the widescreen support. As long as you don't mind black bars on the sides you will still get a great looking image from it. Those IPS colors are gorgeous.

Got a working PG348Q - it's gloooorious.

Congrats! I just got my X34 and omg ..... Forza looks amazing on it.

I want a new game to show it off (to myself) What do you guys think?

I have Forza, just beat Gears and I am waiting for the Steam sale for The Witcher 3. No idea what else to get!

If you want a recent AAA game, Watch Dogs 2 21:9 support is fantastic and looks great to boot. I'm having tons of fun with it and pretty sure you can get them for cheap.

The good news: The Resident Evil 7 demo supports ultrawide resolutions

The bad news: Only resolutions. The aspect ratio remains 16:9, and you get blackbars on the side like Overwatch.

I'm upgrading from my Dell U2410 (16:10) to a Microboard M340CLZ; a seeming competitor to the X34 with a native (rather than overclocked) 100hz refresh rate, supposedly supporting 144hz at 1080P (but with frame skipping reported), and a few other advantages as a trade off for lack of G-Sync, at a comparatively low price of $700.

I hate pillarboxing compared to letterboxing, but otherwise I'm excited! Can't wait to try out movies on an ultrawide. Never seen a curved screen in person either!

Use the appropriate link in this thread, likely the one at the top of the second to last page. http://www.wsgf.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=95&t=29013&start=260

Then there's the go to HUD mod that allows for a good deal of stuff.

Thanks! Now the HUD mod says I need to download a game unification patch. Do I need that also? I have the GOTY from Steam and grabbed that exe

Edit: I am thinking the one in the first link is what is needed for that mod too?

Licorice-flavoured booze?
I hear some people are waiting for HDR before jumping to the 21:9 bandwagon but after recently experiencing how HDR content works on TV's by usually sending a signal to the TV and ramping everything up to eye retina burning levels, I'm wondering how this is going to work on monitors because obviously brightness level is very important aspect of HDR's effectiveness, if it works the same way as it does on TV's I really can't see that being very comfortable on your eyes.

Yeah I screwed up my Witcher install. I got the 21x9 cut-scenes to work, but when I tried to do the other 2 mods, Steam bitched and wanted me to upload new files to the cloud or something. Uninstalling the MOD did not go well, so I just blew everything away and am re-downloading.

I guess I will keep the HUD and stuff the same on my machine and just go with the 21x9 executable if I can get it to work again. I was hoping for something simple to install.

I am not sure what I am doing wrong with installing the Friendly HUD.

Just bought the LG29UM68. Currently playing through Dead Space 3 again and I've already adapted, between extra FOV and Freesync it's hard to go back. LOL Card is RX480.

In case someone doesn't check the classified area, selling my barely used X34 Predator, hit me up via pm if you're interested. Would rather sell to someone here than head to ebay.

Why do you sell it and why is it barely used? :)

I don´t get the focus on QHD-resolution of most gamers. When it comes to PC master race needs, why should anyone buy a QHD-monitor when there are so many great 1080p-displays which give you more than 100hz and still you can play with 60+ fps.

For me the best experience you can have on PC is with 21:9, 100+ fps and 144hz.

For normal people (without being a millionaire) it´s not a good idea to go for a QHD-monitor unless you stuck way under 60 fps without turning the graphic settings down to shitty-console-quality :)

Mainly because I bought and am using a 130" epson 5040ub and it is absolutely incredible, gaming on it is just Unreal with my sound system etc.... And I just haven't used the x34 at all since. Also I'm into a alot of older games and indie games and don't always feel like messing with resolutions much.

It is a great monitor but I'm just not in need of it at the time being. I just want to see it get a good home, was hoping to sell it here first

Crazy duuuude :)

But do you agree with my point? Everyone is looking for a QHD but can´t feed such displays with high quality pictures to make it worth the money.

Playing with under 60 fps is not what "PC master race" means ;) ..in my opinion at least.
