Marvel Vs. Capcom: Infinite Characters and Stages Roster Discussion Thread

Drought of information, realistic expectations of the roster size and the DLC stuff, wondering how good the game can actually be with recycled assets and its seemingly tiny development cycle. That kind of thing.
I mean, the Vs. series was built off the back of reused assets. A majority of MvC2's roster is made up of reused sprites. A good portion of the Capcom side in CvS2 is ripped from the Alpha games and Third Strike. Literally the only original thing in MSHvSF that wasn't ripped from XvSF, MSH or SFA2 (Or a rush job sprite edit, in Cyber Akuma's case) was Norimaro, and he's not even in every version of the game. All of the above games (Even MSHvSF!) are still hella enjoyable, though.

On that note though, considering the same team was behind both, I'm surprised at how many animations were redone from the ground up between TvC and MvC3 instead of being reused.

Yun, Yang and Chun had redone and completely new sprites in CvS2.

They were not taken from 3S. The CvS Naomi style sprites are technically inferior to the SF3 CPS3 sprites in every way imaginable.

The CvS games had:

- 2000s CvS Naomi sprites
- mid to late 90s Darkstalkers / SFA CPS2 sprites

Naomi games never used the CPS3 sprites ever.

But System 246 did use the CPS3 sprites, albeit made crappier in Capcom Fighting Jam/Evolution. That game was awful Mugen though, half assed partially redrawn CPS2 sprites with Gief and Demitri for example, ugh.

Looking into it yeah, you're right. They're pretty similar stylistically to the 3S sprites (especially in the case of Chun) though, which is what tripped me up.

Anybody own the Capcom 30th Anniversary Encyclopedia? I kinda want to buy it.

I own several of the Marvel ones. The thing with the Capcom one is it's about 3 years old.

I do! I actually went through it to see some potential picks for Infinite.

It's not like it's outdated. Capcom hasn't made any new, memorable characters in the last few years.

Rashid imo, who would probably be the best SFV newcomer for a marvel game due to his acrobatics

On top of Rashid, there's also Asura.

Well yeah but he was in the book. I meant, like, since publishing that.

Asura's probably a guarantee though, the way, say, Spencer got in because Bionic Commando came out the year prior.

Speaking of, I ordered a copy of Asura's Wrath off ebay for 20$. I hope it's as good as people say.

Buy God Hand instead from PS2 classics for PS3. Though input lag so buy PS2 version.

That's not what he's saying. The returning characters we've seen have the exact same animation data as in MvC3 -- it's not just the moves themselves. Ryu has a Hadoken, Shoryuken, and so on in both SFIV and SFV, but all of those attacks were reanimated from scratch for SFV. That's not the case here. MvC3 Ryu and MvCI Ryu use the same animations. That saves a lot of time and resources.
Ah yes, of course.

I guess that was a tangentially related way of me trying to tell people to temper their expectations a bit after reading the word "given" used quite liberally, which isn't a really strong concept in the Vs. franchise outside of a stable of maybe 8-10ish characters. Between that and changing tides in who the most popular Marvel characters are today vs. in the 90s, I'm expecting a considerable shakeup. Personally, I don't think Marvel and Marvel Comics especially have as top-down of an influence on the gaming wing of Disney as people think either, but there is definitely influence and an argument for it being pretty strong.

Is it really a drought of information? The game was revealed for the first time a month ago. A MONTH! Tone the thirst down, yo!
This.

This.
Aside from the loss of the Fox characters on Day 1, I'm mainly expecting a MCU-centric roster with a handful of stand-outs from the comics (like Ms. Marvel).

The Netflix iteration of the Defenders is probably gonna have at least two reps. With a comic book line, I think it's a pretty safe call.

Daredevil, Luke Cage, Iron Fist or Jessica Jones.

I can see the former three getting in. Jessica not so much though.

I'd like to see a Hell's Kitchen or Harlem stage though. I'd especially like to see K'un Lun with references to the Immortal Weapons. Esp Bride of Nine Spiders. She was cool.

If it's only two I bet Daredevil and Iron Fist.

YEs it was a month, but the game will be released at worst case scenario in 12 months ... so they COULD like reveal one character a month to keep people dreaming and reveal the rest at e3/PSX/Switch direct

SDCC is going to be big too.

if they have something at the switch event tomorrow that would be the biggest moment of the show

Didn't they already announce MvC:I for PS4, Xbox, and PC?

Yeah, but if it was also for the Switch they wouldn't have been allowed to say so yet.
Wouldn't surprise me, UMvC3 made it to Vita's launch, wouldn't be too surprising to see MvCI during Switch's launch period (6 months).

There's not many options for fighting game ports that are likely to warrant a stick at launch besides this, Tekken 7 , and Pokken Tournament (with the arcade characters?).

Other than Tekken 7 and MvC: I, there's also Injustice 2, UMVC3, and Soul Calibur 6 if they ever announce it. All of which I think have a decent possibility of hitting Switch.

That guy who made the "New Year Leak" is talking on twitter again. Says UMvC3 will get a Switch port, Infinite will be confirmed for the console, and a Power Stone port is coming to the system. Also said Gwenpool has been cut, roster isn't final, and Jedah is in. It's fun to read through his post.
This guy is just going ham right now.

34 character starting roster with +1 Sigma plus Ultron hybrid character.

How about he leak some game play stuff? It's all character related leaks.

Of course he's saying that because that's what people are saying here.

Isn't the first step of making a "fake leak" to not be so goddamn transparent?
