Migos' "Bad And Boujee" Hits #1 On Billboard Hot 100

The real reason mumble rap and hook rap continues to thrive. Gone are the days where you'd hear Tupac or Ludacris in the club and you'd hear people sing along with the lyrics while dancing. Just get the hook right and the beat bouncin' and you're set.

Saw this happen with people singing all the words literally an hour ago

Haha migos is essentially the same flow for like the last 5 years.

I mean, the flow on this track is different from their usual triplet stuff, but they just use the same thing for the entire track and don't change the delivery either. Track needs a guest verse from Kanye or Travis or something.

African American slang

Y'know, that consistent source of cool that mainstream (White) American culture has been mining since the early 20th century (jazz era and jive)

Since Bougie is only used intra racially amongst other Blacks, there was no real reason for it to cross over despite its use being decades old. However I would not be surprised if it eventually does.

Random note :Does Black Beetles and Bad and Boujee kinda prove you need to be meme worthy to get a rap song as #1 in this country? B&B was #2 to before the Donald Glover push.

It's becoming more rare in the clubs I go to the more these type of songs come out. The problem with these songs is that except for a few dance hits like juju on the beat and whip and nanae, no one really remembers them a few years after they release, yet put on 50 cent's in da club and you get people singing the lyrics and having more fun.

And? That's been going on since the inception of the music industry. LOL Some songs become classic timeless party records, where the majority end up being classic remnants of their time.

Where do you live; what cities are these clubs?

Maybe? Who knows?

We live in a different era where the internet has the most impact on music than anything else, so much so that Billboard had to change its equation and include online streaming to better assess a song's popularity and accurately chart it better.

We get it, you're middle-aged and haven't kept up with music since Dipset was still around.

Every fucking thread with this shit, christ.

I don't want people to misunderstand, I don't hate mumble rap nor hook rap, I just think there is a huge imbalance between lyrical artists and them at this time and that is what really sucks to me. It sucks to turn on a radio station and only get one or two Chance the Rapper, Kendrick, Drake, etc songs in a full hour of play. It sucks that certain lyrical artists have to make that one mumble-rap/hook-rap type song in order to get a radio hit when their entire album other than that one song sounds completely different. This ain't about the 90s as I don't even think that's the best era myself. This is more about me wanting things to be 50/50 rather than 80/20.

South side Chicago. Yes, that part of Chicago.

For me they're just club songs, or turn up music when I'm getting ready to go out. LOL
I don't have to connect with every song I hear on an existential level hence my love of panda. Even with club songs, get hype songs, and workout play lists it's ok to discriminate though. I thoroughly do not enjoy these dudes enough to exclude them from any such playlists.

Dude seriously. It's sad. A bunch of losers jump into these threads to circle jerk about their hatred of what's current in rap music. It's like they're proud of being fucking wack

If you dont like it, just dont post. Dont even open the thread. Just go home or something

1) 2007 was only 10 years ago

2) There are people in this thread legitimately under the age of 25 and don't bump these type of songs. Let them speak their mind if they want to.

3) These people aren't 'wack' if they simply want better lyrics in rap songs. It's good to want both. Seeing this song shoot up to the top of charts can be upsetting for some.

4) Do you just want a non discussion thread where people simply congratulate Migos and keep it moving?

lol @ bougie being anything new. Seriously, some of you never heard of anything being called bougie at all? Bourgeoisie?

Anyway, song is dope/catchy. If you want lyricism, there's plenty of that out there.

I thought it already included online streaming and that's why these songs were doing so well on the billboard

I agree there is an imbalance. 20 years ago this song at best would've been a regional hit. However I think it has a lot to do with variation of sounds and styles usually defined by the regions you were in during the 90's, so people had no problems with a song like this existing. I remember partying in the 90's in the hottest clubs in Atlanta, and you'd have an East Coast set, West Coast set, Down South/Booty Shake set, and then a Reggae set.

I think the problem is the dominance of the Southern "sound' compacted by other regions conforming to it thus creating this homogenous sound that has saturated the market.

South side Chicago. Yes, that part of Chicago.

Then I'm kinda surprised, given the popularity of drill music which was heavily influenced by the South/Atlanta.

Yes, you're right. I was just explaining how different an era were in music wise and the impact of the internet.

I agree on the dominance and it gets annoying because I used to enjoy listening to radio, especially to find new songs and artists. It's rare for me to do that currently because of my taste in rap. I grew up on Chicago artists like Kanye and Common mid to late 2000s. They made me also discover jay z, biggie, bone thugs, then tupac, then nas, then drake, Kendrick, chance, etc. I fell in love with good lyrics and more soulful sounds. I didn't really feel that south influence/drill music growing up until I heard Chief Keef rise in popularity. And compared to the path of music I went down you can see why I would think an artist like Chief Keef is trash(with one or two decent hits).

1) What?

2) Okay. Cool? Still completely irrelevant to the topic "Migos' "Bad And Boujee" Hits #1 On Billboard Hot 100"

3) You are wack as fuck if you think that for every Migos there isn't a RTJ or Dave East. If you are upset over Migos success, you are wack. Do people get upset when a pop star hits the top of the charts? I don't understand the point to just shit post and steer the conversation away from the topic by commenting about how it sucks.

4) "Wow, i managed to watch 20 seconds of that music video before wanting to throw my monitor out the window." <- Comments like these are really helpful to fostering a discussion

Dude this isnt a hip hop thread, its a thread about migos. If you dont like them kick rocks. If I posted a thread about how Captain America hit the top of the movies chart and literally 80% of the thread was lames posting 5 word comments about how garbage they thought it was, the thread would be deleted.

If you don't like it, I really don't care. It's the fact that theres no where to discuss this type of music on the internet without 90% of the topic being dudes circle jerking about their hatred towards Atlanta hip hop.

Actually they do. All you have to do is visit pop-gaf to find out. It's the same thing over there when they see someone like Beiber shoot up the charts. And yes, it is alright to be upset at Migos for continuing the hook rap trend as some people are. It's not about shit posting but having a decent discussion about why this happened. What's 'wack'(who even says this word anymore) is having a sneaker-head style mentality about rap like you're having now. Gotta bump that new radio hit and download a trash artist's mixtape in order to feel cool and fit in, right?
