Treehouse Live 9:30AM EST on 1/13 Nintendo Switch Games

That IR motion tracker on the bottom of the joycon better be like 50 cents to add, because all of the cutbacks nintendo made for price.... and that made it in?

Do I not understand something about it? wtf is it ever going to be used for other than stupid minigames like that.
From what I hear, with the way it's facing in tablet mode, Nintendo will know which games people find exciting. Next-gen customer feedback.

True, it doesn't quite cross that line where it becomes so annoying. I just took it as a signal that there would be stage elements like that and such.

I like it better without that though. Would be a lot less fun if the Yellow Devil just start zipping across the stage for no good reason with no way to turn him off.

Yeah. I might have to get this game. Depends on reviews (maybe 80ish is acceptable) and content. The only thing I wonder about is content.
Will it be a splatoon approach where they launch the game a little earlier than ready and add stuff for free every few weeks

If someone plays it a bunch of times that equates to say 15 hours playtime, is the game worth less than a more traditional game with a 15 hour campaign?

I fail to see how you could get people drunk for long enough to actually want to play this for a cumulative time of 15 hours. Comparing an experience of a collection of 10 second round mini-games to a cohesive narrative is kind of not the same, either. There aren't even visual cues. It's definitely worth less, as you know they didn't invest nearly as much money into it as would be required for a typical AAA narrative focused campaign. It's practically stock art.

Not gonna go around telling people how life changing it was to jerk off an imaginary cow while I was blasted for a couple hours.

my jaw clicks when I chew, my wife has tmj and is deaf

I don't think 1,2 switch is for us

Anyone I know who might even have a passing interest in something like 1-2 Switch would just rather play some Wii Sports at this point. I don't have a single gamer friend who'd want to spend even a solitary minute on this, and my non-gamer friends would still rather play something that can hold your interest for longer than 5 seconds at a time. I get that some people here might be vaguely interested in this game, but as far as I can tell this is gonna be like a repeat of SiNG Party, where Nintendo just completely misjudges what both the casual and hardcore audiences are looking for in a game right now.
Feels like they just tried to make a game that could only be done with Joycons (to moderate success I guess). And then after that, were only able to land on the 'party activity' marketing angle. I guess that might work, but it just seems too weird.

I think it looks fun but I have trouble seeing myself playing it and then wanting to play it again. Looks like a neat demo though.

The decision not to pack it in is especially bizarre though. That I can't understand. Maybe they don't want people to think this is what Switch games are like.

I appreciate that at least the first response wasn't complaining about the price. 😊

Honestly if you missed the whole treehouse, do yourself a favor and go lookup snipperclips. I found that to be the best thing I saw today sans Zelda.

I still can't get over how ridiculous 1,2 Switch is. It almost seems like this crazy meta-parody of the entire Wii generation, just with better motion controllers. It's insane and I can't help but love it.

BUT WHY $50???

Literally, the mini-games might last 30 seconds at the longest. How could you ever rack up enough playtime to total 15 hours? I guess if you really like the tutorial videos and watch each of them like 50 times, you could count that as 15 hours of playtime?

I dunno, this game just sort of irks the hell out of me. It feels so unnecessary and like such a relic of the past. I can't even play a dumb VR game for more than a few minutes without getting bored and any one of those is vastly more interesting than this for any number of reasons. This game isn't forward thinking in any way, and honestly goes against what want to see out of Nintendo as far as more progressive game design methodologies go.
I'm a VR fan buying all curiosities and I disagree with you. Nintendo is also about game design focused on making you smile, with friends and family around you. They push a whole new concept here, it's console game that's not a video game. I find it bold and I'm all the more disappointed it's not included with the controllers for free. Too many people will think like you and won't try it. It's so overpriced.

I was impress of how they still manage to make Zelda even more interesting.

When they want to the GP again. I was sure it was just going to be a boring showing of how big the world was.

Probably one Direct before release painting future more positively and announcing VC details and stuff (including Mother 3 if it really is a thing).

Gotcha, thanks. You expect that rosier painting to include a couple of game announcements or you think they'll save those for E3?

On the bright side, Splatoon 2 has a shot of being the best selling Switch game at the end of 2017. Zelda and Mario Kart are on Wii U, Mario Odyssey will only have two months, I doubt Arms will take off, and lol 1-2 Switch.

So is thing a hybrid as was suggested for months? Are we going to see 3DS software on this thing in some form? I'm so confused.

This would be fine in the wii u version provided they kept inventory quick swap like literally any other action adventure title on the system.

I agree. It's complete BS that it's not in there. Same with the map. Especially the map. Since we saw that was originally in....

Yeah, she has to be playable. If I'd guess you can choose her from the start and all story scenes with her are replaced with Link. Probably will be billed as a non canon extra feature. Just wish they would confirm it. I hope theres a option to play as her from the start even if its non canon.

Great news about open Mario too. I need to watch the replays since I missed everything. Need my Splatoon 2 footage!

Hero mode is playing as Zelda.

this will sound very entitled/first world problem... but really people, if you are going to open threads about worldwide presentations happening at different hours across the globe, please add a fucking COUNTER to the op,

I searched the internet and apparently, right now it's 3:20 P.M. EST so this happened some hours ago, is that right?

I clicked the link on the OP and I saw reggie talking to some guys but I wasn't sure that is the presentation.

was there anything new announced? I see no threads or anything.

confusing.

Have they confirmed MK8 DX will have new Grand Prix tracks, or are the "new tracks" just for battle mode?

The info from PR and Treehouse doesn't mention any new tracks apart from those for battle mode. So, unless they are purposely limiting their own PR, it seems there are no new tracks. And, I'm not being facetious - sometimes they don't announce seemingly crucial selling points of products until later than you'd normally expect. ^^

I think this is one of the biggest things that I'm super surprised about. 1-2 Switch seems like it'd be a perfect game to include and I can't fathom why its not. It showcases not only the system but the controllers as well, allowing it to be the perfect "demo" game to show off to your friends.

NintendoLand was fantastic for this and me and my friends still have a blast playing it when we get together, the same way Wii Sports/Resort was on the Wii.

So, thoughts now that Treehouse is done? A few from me:
  • Assuming no delays, I don't think the launch window lineup is so bad, at least for first-party. By summer we'll have Mario Kart 8+, Snipperclips, Splatoon 2, ARMS, and Zelda. Of course third-party gaps continue to be a problem.
  • What I hear about online is very concerning. Mario Kart and Splatoon definitely need to be available for free multiplayer, as they said some games would be.
  • $300 is on the high end of acceptability - more than I'd hoped, but not completely outrageous.
  • $80 for joycons is not as as it sounds since they count as two controllers for most games. Like buying one set gives you four players for Mario Kart, while you'd pay more for three with most other consoles (and you effectively come with two controllers for many games already). On the other hand you probably will still need both joycons for games requiring two sticks. $70 for the pro is simply outrageous though.
  • $50 for 1-2 Switch? Really? Yes, it could be fun at parties, but a game of Catchphrase costs $20 and has more substance (not to mention smartphone apps)! Even Treehouse were obviously forcing the hard sell.

treehouse live isn't an annoucement thing. it's a hang-out-and-demo-games thing. idk if they've started re-running footage or are still playing different stuff, but whatever is on now is indicative of the content that's on all day.

Hrmmm if it's just battle mode and nothing else added then there's no reason for me to double dip. I already bought the DLC packs. Disappointing if so!

That does look very clever. Co-op puzzler with kooky aesthetics and a unique hook? I'm in. Did they discuss VC?

Splatoon 2 no doubt will be. Unless Zelda got some crazy bundle or something. But it'll be splatoon.

Even if something like ARMS took off (i hope it does if it's good) it still wouldn't outsell Splatoon 2. That's a multimillion seller in japan alone.

Oh! Holy crap! Some games will be free MP? Like forever? I'd only heard about the trial period before the Fall paid service rollout.

I totally agree :(

Man, it amazes me how much GAF hates video games. Something new and creative is announced, and people shit all over it. I know not everything will appeal to everyone, but it just boggles me how close minded people here are sometimes.

I'm with yall on the price angst, though.

Just playing devils advocate really, but if someone has fun with it, why is Nintendos margin relevant? Some of the most fun I had on Wii U was playing that pictionary game on Game & Wario with my son. We were literally crying with laughter at each others shit drawings. Not saying this is the same, just that fun can be had by various means and sometimes you can't put a price on it.

Because Nintendo has a history of price-gouging everything, no discounts on first party games, expensive (generally subpar) hardware, etc.

I highly doubt you'll find many people who think that the value proposition meets the $50 entry fee. Game & Wario is much more fleshed out than this. If someone wants to eat clip art virtual sandwiches all day, more power to them, I just don't see this performing well at all. The Twitch chat laughing at it and this thread full of gifs already kinda goes a long way towards proving that, imo. Most responses in here are either 'looks cool, not worth $50 tho' or 'they expect $50 for this?'.
