Yakuza 0. 1/24/17 Less than a month to go. Let's make a difference.

Are you cool with going back to the old systems after playing the improved version? Do 3.

If it's going to be a hassle (and I'm talking a pain in the ass) do 1. Yakuza 2 has the best story in the series and should be experience as intended.

Yea I have them all hooked up. Not interested in doing Yakuza 1 again with that English dub.

Sigh...i'll budget in the morning and debate moreso, even though I know the outcome. I kinda want to get it on PSN because I am - for some reason - being 99% digital on ps4...but I see no page yet.
EU page? That will go up on the day of release. A bummer, I know.

Hoping that the budget works out for you. Though, don't feel too bad even if it didn't. You can always get the game when you have enough money for it :)
Thanks for this!
Glad to see many people use it :)

Also, I've noticed that the sizing is a little off and doesn't cover the sides of avatar so I've fixed that if you and others want to update your avatars. I'll edit the original post with this one too.

Yakuza experts I need advice

I have played and beaten Yakuza 1 & 2 on PS2 when they came out years ago. I own Yakuza 3-5 and have Yakuza 0 pre-ordered. My 2017 gaming resolution is to finally catch up but I'm not sure how I should go about doing it.

My options I've been debating:

1) Replay Yakuza 2 (I know the games do recaps but I still am thinking of revisiting it), then 3-5, and then 0 and Kiwami when it comes out this summer

2) play 3-5, then 0 and Kiwami when released

3) 0, 3-5 and then Kiwami

I have faith (based on absolutely nothing) that Kiwami 2 will happen, so I'd say go 3-5, 0, Kiwami, 6 and not bother replaying 2.

Plus you'll get massive burnout if you try to complete all of that in a year. Especially doing side content or not taking a break in between.

Yea I've been leaning to option 3. I do plan on spacing out the games throughout the year because I too am concerned of getting burned out

Well 0 comes out in like 3 weeks, it'd make more sense to play that first. 3-5 to story completion would be like 100 hrs of gaming!

Haha, it didn't bother me too much, but now that you resized it, I've fixed mine too!

I want to be good with money but i really want to leroy jenkins my way into the series...decisions.

Aw bro, I'm in the same boat, I wanted to get Nier, Nioh, Yakuza 0, Persona 5 in the next few months. I cut it back to just Nioh and Yakuza 0 for now. The digital version will definitely go on sale at some point especially to promote Yakuza Kiwami or Yakuza 6 down the line. The physical version depending on stock might not.

does anybody else still have this message on amazon? what even is this fuckin shit?
Delivery estimate: We need a little more time to provide you with a good estimate. We'll notify you via e-mail as soon as we have an estimated delivery date.

Buy Yakuza 0 at launch for the business card holder, but put it aside until the others are completed :p

It seems like 0 and Kiwami were designed to lead into each other too. I'd absolutely forget the side quests that connect between the two if I put 3 to 5 in between, not to mention jarring gameplay/graphics differences.

The 0 hype is burning within me. It's a shame Sega picked such a competitive date to release the game, but being a massive fan of the franchise, this will be the only game I'll pick up that day. And I'm poor.

Sincerely, these games are absolutely excellent the majority of the time and I encourage the curious to pick up this game as you need no prior knowledge of the series.

Got my copy all paid off. But I just realized that I gotta shelve it once I get it! Despite wanting it for years and buying it day-1 I still haven't played through my copy of Yakuza 5. Even tho 0 is a prequel I gotta run through 5 first. All these new games coming out and distracting me, I need to just hunker down with my PS3.

Seraphis Cain

bad gameplay lol
Ran around a bit in the Chinese demo last night and yeah, 1080p60 feels REALLY nice. Gonna be hard going back to 30 for Y6 after this and Kiwami.

Yeah, still got it. I've never really pre-ordered through Amazon (or...ever before honestly) but I imagine it's a placeholder for when it's closer to release. From what I know they usually(?) ship before actual release to try and guarantee you get it on release, but that probably requires a little more waiting from them for confirmation. Of course that also depends on if you're Prime or not, etc. ...

Somebody in the know feel free to step in lol.

Save 5 for the gap between Kiwami and Y6, and play Y0 with the rest of us at launch :)

3. If you know one and two there's a lot of references that make it more interesting even if it's not needed. Since you've done 1 and 2 that's all you'd need to know.

You guys got to me^^ I already own the Korean version of Yakuza 0, but I just pre ordered the English version for my youngest brother in the US. He was born in 88 and lived in Japan when he was 3, so it seems fitting some how^^ Will wait on the English version of Kiwami to help show my support as well. Will have to get English Yakuza 6 since it was canceled for Korean release... but there is still hope for English versions, so I will do my part^^

I wanna play 5 first because 0 has better gameplay does it not? I've loved the progression in game design with the Yakuza games over the years, seeing each installment improve on the last.
Y0 definitely has the better gameplay between the two, but the beginning of Y6 takes place practically right after the end of Y5, so storywise it'll be better to play Y5 before that.

Also, a lot of new people are jumping into the series with Y0, so the OT and its discussions should be very fun. You'll miss out on that if you don't play Y0 during the launch period.

You should play 5 first because it's a good game, not the the best in the series, but you will not find a game that's more ambitious. The Other Drama aspects are fully fleshed out, there's a ton of content, and the pacing is strange ad the amount of content feels over stuffed there's a lot of it that's fantastic and worth experiencing.

I must apologize, it just wouldn't feel right not to continue playing the games in release order. It's my own fault for getting distracted over the past year and not playing it sooner. I gotta play through 5 first lol.

I bit the bullet and reserved it today. This is gonna be my first Yakuza game. I'm a little worried that I won't be able to enjoy the story of the entire series fully becauseost of the series is on older platforms. I plan on playing and beating the part 1 remake after 0 but where do I go after? Are the PS2 ones worth it?

If you can somehow find Yakuza 2, grab it! I wouldn't worry about Yakuza 1 (PS2) unless you want it in your collection or something. Or if you wanna hear those very epic English voices.

3-5 is A LOT of Yakuza to get through before getting to 0, and you're not going to miss anything by playing 0 before 3-5

Yakuza 3 has recap videos for Yakuza 1 and 2, so watch those just to remind yourself what happened in those games.

Then play Yakuza 0 which is more closely connected to both. It will be worth it.

If you're not tired with the series, go to Y3-Y4-Y5 until Kiwami is released. If you fear getting burned out, wait for Kiwami to release then tackle 3 to 5 whenever you feel like it.

Then just wait for Y6 to drop early next year.

Okay lol

Though seriously, if you are gonna do Y5 then make sure to put some gap (at least a month) between that and Yakuza 0. Y5 is too big for its own good and depending on where you are in that game right now, you could feel really burnt out of Yakuza if you play Y0 right after finishing Y5.

I've had mine pre-ordered since September last year and my order is still showing the same message. I called up Amazon yesterday to ask them politely if I was still going to receive my order on release day, and not only did they reassure me I would, but they also upgraded my shipping to overnight (no charge) and gave me a complimentary $5 credit and an apology. Gotta love Amazon customer service.

Nagoshi isn't just involved with the Yakuza series. With how horribly the first two games bombed on Wii U it seems unlikely 0 would get ported to the Switch.

It's more likely that games like Valkyria Azure Revolution would get ported instead.

Sony's Third Party Productions is helping Sega bring these games to the west. (they were credited in Y5 as well) Yakuza 0, Yakuza Kiwami and Yakuza 6 won't be released on other consoles, at least not the localized versions.
