Resident Evil 7 - Early Impressions Thread (MARK SPOILERS!!)

Game looks fucking incredible. The RE of a new generation. I wasn't originally intending to get this being a massive wuss, but it's become really hard to not want to now. Look guys, this is as RE as it comes if you're into that classic stuff.

So, I've only played a bit of the demo and walked out of the room and into the hallway and to the bathroom and just peered into the kitchen. I didn't play anymore because I really liked what I was seeing and didn't want to spoil myself on the whole game.

So my question is, does the main game take place at the same location and such as the demo? Or would playing the demo not spoil anything about the main game? Basically want to know if I'm safe to keep playing the demo or not.

EDIT: I'd rather not spoil myself by watching the stream.

I've been saying this is just another Outlast clone since the first moments of the first E3 reveal trailer and the Twitch stream linked here proves it, at least imo.

I watched about 15 minutes or so and the streamer put the VHS tape in to play Mia's stealth section. Aside from it being painfully short and pointless, with terrible stealth mechanics, it literally copies the concept that Outlast has where you're somebody carrying a camera around, moving around a seemingly abandoned house totally defenceless and all you can do is run and hide when eventually a scripted trigger box has the enemy grab you and the segment ends there. TOTALLY not from fucking Outlast, right guys?

People saying how you're not defenceless and you have options, well
in that VHS segment you have NO options - you run and hide, or have to start from an earlier checkpoint.

Also what's up with the character breathing so much to themselves like how the protagonist does in Outlast and Amnesia? It's actually distracting to listen to with headphones on.

The demo doesn't spoil anything from the main game.

The area which the demo takes place in does appear in the game, however it's completely repurposed and all the items and other things are different/replaced.

Play the demo man :)

I'm heading back in as we speak.

Crossing my fingers that the full game has 21:9 support!

So a 15-minute VHS tape automatically means that the whole game it is like Outlast okay

VHS sections are entirely optional and will have different gameplay than when you are playing as Ethan.

That's like saying Nier is a 2D sidescroller since it has a 2D sidescrolling section.

If you had tuned in a bit earlier, you would have seen that the game is nothing like Outlast at all.

Let me guess. You only watched the VHS tape section and turned the stream off?

You're either trolling or extremely ignorant.

That's like saying Nier is a 2D sidescroller since it has a 2D sidescrolling section.

Don't forget visual novel. Oh and a RE clone because of that one level.

You'd have to be an idiot to judge the whole game on a 15 minute long section where you play as another character.

You clearly didn't see anything on the stream outside of that segment.

So you did watch nothing because you should have the opposite opnion.

I know how much you want to be right but the truth is not good for your desires.

Face palm.

Loving the first person view, feeling of isolation, desperation, and return of puzzles. PT is the best thing that happened to RE.

I want to turn away from the stream, but I can't 😭

Hope the hide and seek stuff is frontloaded, popped into a couple streams and that's all I was seeing at first. But where they are at now looks alright. I'm assuming the UAE streamer is on some super low difficulty though.

It's annoying that I'm still kinda on the fence but I don't want to watch any more of it.

Hey everyone, this is Dusk Golem aka AestheticGamer. I have posted on NeoGAF since 2011, and have decided to resign. I have enjoyed posting about horror games here for years, but I no longer wish to support the site and will be leaving for good. I will still be around the internet, I go by AestheticGamer on YouTube, I make games on Steam as Yai Gameworks, and I plan to go by Dusk Golem on other forums. I'll be joining an off-set of the GAF community leaving to try other ventures like ResetEra (Official Twitter for that here: https://twitter.com/reseteraforum ). I hope some of you who read this may consider it, and I plan to try to expose more people to horror games in the years to come. Just not here.

I hope you all are having a good day, and know I always loved the community, and in the end it's the community I'm going to stick with, not the site itself. If you want to follow me, my official Twitter is here: https://twitter.com/AestheticGamer1

Uh, can we keep stuff in spoiler tags, guys? Not sure I like the fact that I've now seen Jack Baker's dick(?).

He's playing on easy with the brightness on 100%.
From what I hear, the streamer linked in this topic is playing on Casual difficulty, with brightness 100% up, and doing PS4 Share so there's no music.
Oh, really? Thank God, because there's a serious lack of mood/tension without it.

Apparently some other streams of playing on normal and a friend tells me there's a HUGE difference.

Spoiling the fun. Lol. Yeah I don't see them having something like that in the game. That'd make it like Outlast again.

Come on people use spoilers. I want impressions of the game, not a live moment by moment feed of the streams.

I'm not watching the streams as I want to play it myself, but I know a few GAF'ers and people who are who I've been prodding a bit with curious questions. One of them has watched an easy and normal stream, and says Jack moves a lot faster and attacks a lot more on normal than easy.

So does Jack look faster in this clip to you than he does from whoever you're watching? If he does, then the guy you're watching is probably playing on Easy difficulty: https://youtu.be/TlgCnPPoIas?t=37

I'm still debating which difficulty to play on myself, Normal or Madhouse. Hope we hear the full set of Madhouse differences soon.

I watched a bit just because it's an early part after the dinner scene. That guy really us defeating the purpose of the game by playing it with brightness that high. No flashlight needed.

But yeah Jack is so slow there you're able to just run off and explore the rooms pretty leisurely. The stuff you hear Jack say from a distance is pretty funny though. He's more funny here than scary. I'm sure that'll change though the more you liss him off over the course of the game.

I'll be playing on Normal. Is madhouse unlocked only through the season pass? If so I'll have to wait. I don't like buying season passes without seeing some footage or more detail than what they've given us.

still undecided about this, but on a media blackout either way.

one improtant question though: any news regarding multiplayer? has capcom confirmed either way, whether there will be any kind of MP component, right on launch or later on as DLC??

Purely sp from what has been said so far. DLX sounds sp, too. But we'll see.

What I've seen in that stream has absolutely convinced me to buy the game at launch.

Some of the scenes hit me in the stomach, this game is gonna be good!

Madhouse is unlocked from the start if you preorder the game, there's no need to buy the season pass day 1.
