Bruising, bonkers and frequently brilliant, Yakuza 0 is Sega's cult favourite at its very best.

edit:

The Verge: Yakuza 0 on PS4 is the perfect introduction to this weird, wild crime series
They don't make games like this anymore

Not a review, but there's an article on The Verge that praises the game for it's charming, old-school design and strong world-building.

Might get some more people interested in the game who've never heard of it before :)

Reviews have me so hyped for this. Went to pre-order from Amazon and was met with this:

Usually order things off Amazon with my Amazon card for cashback, can't for the life of me figure out why they can't ship it to Northern Ireland. Learn more link doesn't shed any light on it either. It's a videogame, not a laptop battery.

Can't wait to play this. Playing through the series in anticipation, starting with Yakuza 1. As clunky as it is these days, I'm enjoying myself so far. I can see the targeting and movement system during fighting getting frustrating in more difficult fights further on in the game (I'm only on chapter 4 so far), but maybe I just need to get better at it.

Now to try and find Yakuza 2 for a decent price before I finish the first game - already own 1, 3, 4, 5 and Dead Souls, but annoyingly the only game in the series I don't own is the most difficult and expensive to find. Why didn't I get into this series when it was originally released?!

I didn't realise this was a prequel, I thought it was a remake of the original so I haven't been paying attention to it...

Nice surprise I guess!

The remake is Yakuza Kiwami, which is coming this summer, then we get Yakuza 6 in the spring of 2018. Life is in a very giving mood right now.

I didn't even know this was coming out yesterday morning and now my hype is over 9000.

Damn.

This thread and the reviews have really got me hyped.

Never played a Yakuza game before, is this a good place to start?

Edit: Ignore my question, can see it's answered elsewhere in thread, looking forward to jumping in!

I am so hyped for this game. Persona 5 is the only other game i'm more excited for. I did my part and paid this off yesterday. Hope this, Kiwami, and 6 sell well so we can continue to get Yakuza games here.

Is Kiwami straight up a graphical upgrade or did they change the game to make it more modern and also added some stuff?

Definitely the latter. Biggest change I think is that where the PS2 version was like the old Resident Evil games where you moved between screens with fixed camera angles to a real 3D open world like the PS3 games.

This could be my first Yakuza game. I'm heartened by the positive reviews and the excitement of what seems like a small but passionate fan base.

However, it looks super zany, maybe too zany for me... I imagine I'll end up jumping in but god knows what I'm getting myself into. :p

Just went to order on Amazon UK and it looks like it's sold out ...

That's odd, what's the odds of it selling well vs Amazon just not getting much stock? (the optimist in me wants to believe it'll sell well, while the realist... not so sure). Either way, glad I preordered it last month!

Short answer: heavy upgrade and rework of the gameplay based on the 0's framework

Long answer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HtiixXPHbUY <--- I really recommend a watch if anybody's at least slightly interested in the game

full on remake.
Sounds fantastic. Can't wait for Y6 since it's not being held up by PS3 and also has a new engine(?).

Review-in-Progress(-ish) article from Jeremy Parish on USGamer

Sounds like he likes it, but he didn't give it a score since he hasn't finished the game yet.

That's what I've been saying but I didn't want to sound like a scaremonger. You only have to look at past sales of around 100k in the west and the huge increase in interest, possibly favourable reviews, more media coverage as John Hardin mentioned and tons of streamers who are showing the game off literally the first time.

Jim sterling has 400k subscribers and gets stacks of views per video and that's just one guy. Nobody gave Yakuza 5 much coverage because everyone had moved onto the PS4.

It's only a problem if you're after the physical version.

It's out of stock.
