EDIT: Thinking back, I think this is the best group stream moment of 2016. They've had better overall streams, but the only person that notices that Damiani has even walked off is Ben and he has that "disrespect" face on with a wry grin of respect, while Kyle plays on and then when he's out, everyone just realises what's happened. I think it's the biggest physical reaction Don has had to anything too. Perfection.

Dons the dude coming to the camera in this gif:

Lmao never noticed Don's reaction til now at that bit, visceral

Oh hi new page, this post doesn't make sense now

And now it does again. I didn't until I reposted it just then either!

Can someone explain whats up with the Lightning cut-out?
I just recently got into them(other than a video here and there) and its just strangely prominent.

Well, I'm sure this will pop up at some point in the future, but here's the history. Square Enix sent it to us at GameTrailers ahead of the release of Final Fantasy XIII (seemed to be at a time when a lot of companies were trying this, we got a life-sized statue for Fallout 3, Skyrim, and Tomb Raider - not sure where those ended up though). It sat along the cubicle wall behind Patrick's and my desk until we left Viacom. There were several instances where people wanted it gone or moved, but I kept it there. It ended up making the move with us to Defy, and it sat in an empty cubicle (for a time) where we also did some game capture before we got the new capture room. I think it also ended up in the stream room a few times. I also remember at some point, somebody at Defy wanted it gone or we should ditch it, but I ignored that person and kept it around anyway.

I forget when it started, but I think because of XIII-2, we at GT kept referring to her as the goddess. There was also a group of online friends of mine who kept bringing up Kitase and Toriyama's unending infatuation with Lightning and memes associated with it, as well as Square Enix's continual use of her despite XIII's reputation, that just lead me to continue to use her as a troll prop. I did a FF XIII PC stream at Defy where I made a shrine for Lightning with all these weird images Kitase/Toriyama had made for Lightning over the years (like "she must not be forgotten" and the one comparing her to a rose/flower). Stuff like that, basically.

I'm assuming in the time after leaving GT, the Lightning meme continued on, and as you all know, the guys all brought her out on the last day of GT for the goodbye stream. And now she's in Jones' garage. Lightning's been through/seen a lot in regards to GT/EZA history. She saw many of the major GT staff slowly depart in the final years, went through the sale to Defy and massive layoffs, the transition to Defy, the end of GameTrailers, and the birth of EZA. For me personally her significance is as a reminder of a different time in this industry and games media/press.

Just Beautiful

The whole Nintendo bet special is what got me to subscribe and watch beyond just seeing reactions and then fast forwarding, so now im going through stuff like the podcasts and noticed it and just had me wondering.

Results episode was just perfection.

All you have to know is that her name is Goddess.
I really don't think anyone can.

In regards to the newest podcast, and specifically the HD rumble discussion:

It'll be worth it even if it flops on the Switch, because HD rumble will (eventually) make VR games better. Not necessarily on the Switch, but other companies will copy it.

Sony neads to be eyeing it if they ever intend to replace the Move(which should have happened already.)

Btw the "She must not be forgotten" was Nomura not Toriyama or Kitase.

Mario 64 tournament stream Damiani defeated Kyle with a shell frame trap and walked away a few second before Kyle lost his last balloon cause he knew Kyle couldn't get out of it, little bit of friendly savage bm was a super funny moment.

Lol, I think I can agree with this list. Although I'm not much of an axe person. The feeling of wielding the BK Greataxe from Dark Souls though is etched into my brain. The impact feels so satisfying.

Blood 1-2 Switch is like Wii Play but without the added value of the bundled Wiimote. And while motion controls allows for games that were only possible on the Wii, the lack of a pointer hurts since it probably was the better feature of the Wiimote.

Ben HD Rumble can have a lot of uses as long as the developers are creative enough. Like from the top of my head any shooter could use it to indicate how full your clip is.
The IR camera on the other hand I doubt we'd ever see it used well.

Rank the Significance is weird this week. It seems to focus on positive significance rather than significance in general.

at the end of this weeks pod they were asking for suggestions for new patreon tiers, anyone have any ideas? I was thinking maybe play a game with the allies, skype chat with the allies (kinda funny do this and its always booked up), frame trap sponsor

Yea I'm thinking they need some if between the 25 and 50 tier but I'm not sure exactly what

40 dollar tier Huber - Kiss on the lips.

:-x jk no idea either I feel like patron tiers are really hard to design. So many factors that have to go into it like how scalable is the tier, is it something that can be consistently delivered from month to month, is it something that never loses it's value, how many man hours does it take etc.

An interesting problem though. I wonder what the current best approach is. More tiers to open up more flexibility for backers? Or is it trying to bring more value to the 5 dollar tier to encourage conversion of 1 dollar backers? If we had more general patreon statistics it I would be super interested in maybe seeing a potential mathematical breakdown of pro con for different approaches. *hides away in his nerd corner*

I think they need to make the smaller tiers more appealing. Like I don't think I'll always be able to listen to the podcast early anyway, and then there are (probably) people who don't listen to the podcast.

Also they need to update their milestone goals. The way one time things are crossed out is confusing since it makes it seem like the rest hasn't been reached yet. While they're at it they need to explain the rest to people who aren't familiar with their shows.

I'm paying for the podcast, but I can't get it early, because there is no "early" RSS feed I can subscribe to.

All this axe talk is reminding me of the first Swordcraft Story (GBA). There is at least one NPC completely fanatic to each type of weapon in the game (sword, axe, knuckle, spear, drill), and some of the odes to the axe are straight up Huber tier.

What's really interesting though is that there is a whole family dedicated to singing praises to the knuckle and how it's a superior weapon... Until the father starts liking axes more. Each day he favors them more than the knuckle, which ends up making the youngest son flee from his home.

It's weird because it's the only time a NPC has a (even if temporary) taste change in weapons and because it's just a side story that you need to go out of your way and follow each game day - it's not a side quest at all and there is nothing you can do except get amused with how the family almost breaks apart because of weapons fanboyism but then everything gets alright when they decide knuckles are cooler anyway.

The only way I can imagine it working is through it's own app which would require using the an API to check your tier. https://www.quora.com/Does-Patreon-com-have-an-official-API You'd still have to listen in this app, so they'd have to host the .mp3 somewherre.

Raw RSS is not going to happen as it's too simplisitc unless you have your own account system somewhere. You could just share the link with anyone or old patrons could just still keep accessing it.

I thought Patreon has a private RSS function something wrong with that one?

You can share any of the Patreon Youtube links with anyone as well. It's not like there's any protection for that either. All I know is that it's very inconvenient for audio-listeners to make use of the reward that they're paying for.

There is the possibility to create password protected rss feed, however. So maybe there is a way to tie that into the Patreon account.

Yeah and you can share any of the soundcloud links as well, but the RSS feed would need to be permanent to be of use, so share it once and you've got all of it forever rather than having to hunt down video links each week.

What is the issue anyway? I only use the audio version, so I get the email that says it's up, login to Patreon, click the Soundcloud link that opens the app and I walk to work with it on all on my phone. It seems to work pretty well?

It looks like Patreon already natively supports authenticated podcast distribution via RSS for patreons:

https://www.patreon.com/posts/patron-only-rss-6776774

Apart from that, Patreon seems to implement authorisation grants via QAuth2. That would require them to find somebody to build an account system for their website, integrate it via OAuth2 with Patreon to check the user's patreon pledge, and then generate private RSS feeds accordingly. It's not a hard task for an average developer, but it's also not trivial to do right.

/edit: Here are Patreon's reference implementations: https://github.com/Patreon

Oh sweet, I think this functionality didn't exist when they launched as I remember Bosman saying they were using Soundcloud because they couldn't upload MP3's above a certain file size at the time. I wonder if they're aware of this? If that's creating a custom private feed per user, I imagine it stops working when someone drops their pledge. Could solve everything built in.

I had a thought that after every pod they should record exclusive 'bonus bits' for patrons (not sure what level). Like one more L&R question on EZA pod, bonus rapidfire hottake on FT, and some bloopers/outtakes from ez update and syndrome etc. All just a few mins long, no editing or anything- quick and easy.

also maybe add patron early access to more shows? Frame Trap, Tabletop, Easy up, Syndrome, the new anime show, fiasconauts, retros, sleuths etc

I honestly wish the anime show was Patron only, or at least time-locked since it's not time-sensitive by the sounds of things. It's just such a bonus thing.

Other than the podcast and the infrequent Cup of Jones, there's not much reason to subscribe. Fortunatley I think a lot of us in the userbase just want to see them do well, but I do think more users coming in now will need a carrot to get them in.

The issue is, as always, convenience.

I have a podcast app that I use, with all my subscriptions. It's set up in a specific way, it downloads all episodes, it has specific settings for all podcasts I have subscribed to (like skipping the intro for some, 1.5x speed for others, sometimes both, some get cleaned up after one episode, other episodes are saved so I can listen to them multiple times, etc.)

It's certainly possible to integrate the early episodes like that, just like I do via the regular RSS feed, so I'd really like to do that. That's it. I'm not demanding it, I'm not gonna bitch endlessly about it. I'm not gonna pull my Patreon support, because they're not doing it. I've been supporting them since day 1, because I love what they do and I'll keep doing so. I'm just saying that it would be really, really great if they could make it happen. It's basically just a suggestion for better customer service, a better customer experience, if you will. The way you described certainly works, but it's very clunky and needlessly so.

Yeah definitely agreed, was actually about to say the same about the anime show. Or some other new show, but they should keep those at 5 dollar and 10 dollar tier imo. Well maybe 15 at max, for a show that is maybe once in a month. So those are still "affordable" and not only a handful of people get to see the content EZA has worked on.

Timed exclusives are a good incentive, I think. But I'm not sure if putting content like that behind the paywall entirely is such a good idea at this point. Perhaps the focus should be on continuing to grow the audience first, get produced content out on a regular basis and fix the remaining technical issues that still pop up for whatever reason (audio issues, camera quality).

These are the same people that complain about Ian in all the youtube comments. EZA's motto is love & respect but I guess some people just can't be helped.
